Trump's key to political success is that he's always held on to about a third of the electorate (primary and general). While the rest of the electorate is divided along bright lines or blurred/grey lines, Trump's base holds strong, and he can peel off other smaller constituencies when choices dissipate (GOP contenders) or have high negatives (Clinton).
That's how he won the primary.
That's how he won the election.
And when he's gotten this far, he's going to stick with what he knows.
