President Macron, thank God.

At least France rejects evil racism.

The Nazi lost. Macron is one smart cookie.

French voters who voted for Macron, were smart enough to reject the far right candidate's trump-like, campaign tactics. She failed.

She was to the right of Trump. Trump doesn't know what he believes.

It is conforting to see that one of the countries that has been more severely punished by terrorism has said today, loud and clear, that hate is not the answer.

Punished by terrorism? Not so much. The middle east is getting killed but not the west.

I have no clue either - and I'm in Europe. I'll ask my Polish friends tomorrow. Or Only could save me the trouble and just answer.

Back to France though. Good result! Shame I don't think I'll be saying the same for Britain sad

Thank God France was smart enough to bury that fucking, deplorable racist pig, LePen. Hopefully she will shut her filthy mouth forever. One T+++P in this world makes it nasty enough.

I'll take a stab at it. By appeasement he means by electing a moderate instead of a right-wing nutbag they are making concessions to Isis et al.

The appeasement policy was when the French and British gouvernments of the 1930s tried to "appease" Hitler by letting him have his way: let him take Austria, Checkoslovakia and then maybe we can avoid a war. When Hitler invaded Poland, they realized this didn't work and declared war on Germany.
I don't really see what that has to do with the subject of this thread though. The French campaign was mostly about economy and the EU: Frexit or not? Le Pen wants out, which would ruin the EU and create a chaos. Say whatever you want about the EU, but we haven't had a war in western Europe since the EU was created! But there is a sense among a lot of people that the EU benefits the rich and not the common man and there is certainly truth in that. And that's wjere people like Martine Le Pen get their votes. But the FN is still a little too radical for most French. Most of them like neither Le Pen nor Macron and turn up was the lowest since 1969 at 75%.
So Macron faces a lot of challenges and he has no party in Parliament. Parliamentary elections are coming in June.

Thank you for the info, NorthC. How does Macron get a party?

There is an organization behind him called En Marche, so I guess its members will be electable, but Front National will still be a strong force and then we still have the traditional right and left wing parties... It will surely be interesting to see how this works out. Being Dutch with a very limited knowledge of the French language, I'm no expert in French politics (I've told you about everything I know by now), just reporting what I read in the newspapers. I'm sure it's a bigger story here than it is on the other side of the Atlantic. But Trump and Le Pen (and Wilders in the Netherlands) voters do have much the same worries and it would be wrong to ignore them just because the politician is a... I have never listened to him (when I had a choice) and I do not think I have even heard his voice for 2 years. I insist you cease and desist making up stuff about me. I come up with all my own ideas. I am one of the most free-thinking people there is.
