Pastor Ed Young of Houston makes a huge mistake In his sermon today (I assume it was today's, as I watched it on TV this morning), Pastor Ed Young of Second Baptist Church in Houston made one of the dumbest comments I've heard.
He said that all liberals are godless.
Now, as you may or may not know, I am a big believer that church and state should be separate. I feel the Founding Fathers believed that, too. The state doesn't control the church, and vice versa.
Therefore, I am not a fan of pastors and religious leaders that stick their toes in the political arena. It's a lose-lose proposition, IMO.
Which is why I am distressed at what Ed Young said today.
I was watching it on TV with my wife as we ate breakfast. Young started to recount a story about him sitting next to Senator Howard Metzenbaum on a flight to Israel. They spoke for a long time and then Young asked Metzenbaum, "You've said several times you are a liberal. What is a liberal?"
"Uh oh," I told my wife. "He's about to get into politics and this is going to be a big mistake". How right I was!
Metzenbaum - who did not know Young was a pastor - told Young that a liberal wanted equal representation for all people under the law. "Why, I want that too and I'm a conservative," replied Young. "How do you explain that? We want the same exact thing". Metzenbaum replied that was possible because Young was "a man with an open mind". Well! I told my wife that maybe Young could get out of this without screwing up!
I was wrong.
Young told Metzenbaum, "Let me ask you something - do you believe Genesis is the literal word of God? Do you believe the Earth was created as described in Genesis?" Metzenbaum eventually said, "No, I don't believe that". Young replied, "Then that makes you a liberal".
Well, how about that! All liberals are godless! And all godless people are liberal! Thank GOD I had a pastor tell me that!
Young then went on to pitch his new book, which is about - and I kid you not - a divided America.
No s$%^ Sherlock! It's people like you that are dividing it!

just as long as opinionated people realize this disiplay of an (seemingly) egocentric personality type, with his miss-speakableness and forethoughtlessness, does not represent the masses, then i owe no never mind to it. luckily pastor Ed Young does not represent me.

I may just have to start watching Pastor Ed. Sounds right up my alley. Is he as entertaining as Benny-Hinn?
I am a flaming science believing liberal, but I think I spend more time watching and listening to programs with strong or extreme conservative viewpoints. I find them absolutely fascinating. Many times, (ok sometimes) I find I agree with a lot of what they say. Our divides are not as wide as I sometimes imagine.
My friends will not watch TV with me. I say "But, you gotta watch Hannity with me, it's my new favorite showwww" I wonder if they will dig Pastor Ed...
Just by the look of this picture, I think this may very well be my new favorite show on television..
On a side note, Pastor Ed and Joel Osteen look extremely gay for conservatives. Not that there is anything wrong with it. I remember thinking the same thing about Ted Hagard long before he eventually "came out" Again, not that there is anything wrong with it I only mention it becasue it's part of my fascination with all things conservative. It's something about that old "protest too much" thing.

I have to agree with Rodeo on this one and I think it's high time we push back on these folks and their divisive agendas since they already have many believing they speak for the majority when they really don't. It's all a huge scam, and the notion that these money factories are all tax-exempt is ludicrous.

I didn't listen, Rodeo did, and since I'm not the topic, what are you talking about???
Just to clarify, I agree with Rodeo for the stance HE took on the matter and wish that more people follow his lead. I trust his account of what he heard since he is not in the habit of spinning a story to suit some agenda.
Now if you wanna challenge him on what HE chooses to listen to, I'm sure he'd be happy to engage with you.

So Rodeo can post commentary pushing back against something he doesn't like but I can't agree? Again, the topic is what HE heard and HIS opinion of it, not my endorsement of said opinion. "Success has a great tendency to conceal and throw a veil over the evil of men"....Demosthenes

That's not the right Ed Young. The Ed Young I'm referring to is in his 60's. His show is called "The Winning Walk".
