Health Insurance Death Spiral

[quote]

This is an interesting article written about what will happen within the Health Insurance industry if the Baucus Bill is enacted...

Basically, if insurers cannot charge an appropriate premium to cover the risk envolved with providing service to high-risk customers, then insurers will simply terminate the plans altogether.

The article lists examples of where this has already happened in the US in multiple states.

I'm really excited that the public option may not be dead yet, actually.

Is the NRO independent. And when I mean independent, I don't mean it in the Republican sense of the word. lol

I'll read more on it today I guess. I'm assuming the typical liberal response is due to some of them being busy today. They'll skewer this in due time.

Let's not jump the gun here. Our President said that once there is a public option in place it would still take 10 to 20 years before he could eliminate employer provided heath coverage. Add that to the 3 to 4 years between passages of the bill and its implementation we should have 15 to 25 years before private health insurance is a thing of the past.

What is your response about health care reform? Do you think we should not do anything? Do you think it is okay for millions of people not to have insurance. I know some decide not to have insurance but there are millions who want to have insurance and cannot afford it.

So are you for the Status Quo?

No one is saying do nothing. That is just not the case. There are many ideas that have been suggested by the right to help bring the cost down. And it is the obama and the far LEFT that refuse to listen to them. Obama has had it as his plan for YEARS to create single payer in the US. So he will ignore any ideas that are not moving us in that direction.

G W Bush passed the largest health care reform bill in our history. So to say they did nothing is not accurate.

Did the bill bring down the cost? Did the bill insure more people than what was in 2000?

We don't know that. Why should anyone listen to ideas from a group that implemented something and it did not work? Is it better to see what the other side has to offer when your ideas failed and infact made it worse?

I see someone has gotten their weekly talking points email and regurgitated it here yet again with little or no analysis.

Then starts every thread with name calling and labels, and has the nerve to wonder why the thread isn't showered with responses. lol

Allow insurance companies to sell across state lines.

Allow medical expenses to be be 100% deductible as an adjustment (with credits for low income)

Make medical savings accounts available pre-tax for anyone.

Tort reform.

Drop sales tax where such things are taxed

This is only important to do once they are out of power? They have power, they do nothing. They don't have power, they expect to call the shots. Dems need to ram this down their throats til the party chokes to death.....

Yeah I have noticed your view of republicans. And I agree that something could have been done under Bush. However, for the President to say that Republicans want to do nothing is a lie. Plain and simple. He could have framed it as you did, which is valid, but he did not. And remember Bush did pass the largest medical coverage bill in our history, so it is not really accurate to say they did nothing.

And I think I know where you are coming from, we both want the same thing. We want people to be able to get affordable health care. I know I have not gone to the doctor for health issues I have due to the cost, yet, I am honestly concerned that this bill will lead to higher cost (taxes) and less access (waiting periods).

please explain, why anyone should still be interested in your run-for-the hills "debating"? eek you almost never face hard facts when presented to you, you made that clear many many times in the past. and yet after 90 minutes you already start whining for the lack of responses to your same old shlock "reality" ? serious question: do you expect others to actually READ the articles and probably even do RESEARCH themselves? or do you just expect them to drop some ad-hoc automatic ignore type response, like you and most conservatives usually do? true dat, the latter takes no time at all. but please accept that others ar not simplistic trained automated bots, okay? lol

but here's a shot, just for you... your "reality" = first an article by a consultant for private health insurers, certainly a guy with NO AGENDA at all err and second, some freaking BLOG?!?! are you fucking kidding us??? nuts if that's how and where you get your "facts" this explains a lot

hey genius, you had six weeks to answer a challenge I put forward to you in a past thread, a challenge I even repeated in a later thread. so let me try once more... third time lucky maybe? or will I once again get the typical response when THIS conservative is exposed to reality ???

repost from http://prince.org/msg/105/318462

here's a challenge: name just ONE nation that already has some form of universal health care, that would like to remove it and trade it for a US style system.

ONE!!

should be really easy if systems suck so much in most other nations, as you always claim

I'm waiting... so come on , surpise me smile

and as for your "reality" as posted in this thread, just this, once again..

universal health care works in all other industrialized nations. that's the REALITY. IT WORKS. WORKS WORKS WORKS.

but if you always repeat your stance, that for various reasons Americans are simply too dumb to get such a thing working, even after some already existing models available, then maybe I'll have to take your word for it shrug

I might add that this thread hit's a new low, even by your standards. first you start a thread and within 90 minutes complain, that you do not get replies.
and after you do get replies, you do not post even one more time but rather run for the hills and abandon your own thread wreck.

so then i ask in all seriousness, why on earth should anyone ever be interested to engage in a "debate" with you, ever again? I see no reason whatsoever.

That's the big problem with the government take over. Once a third of the nation is getting something for free, what "POLITICIAN" would stand up and take it away. This thing won't be as Obama said "budget neutral" and the savings won't be for the majority of the people on it.

well, why should any politician even think about taking it away... IF IT WORKS?

universal health care is not an issue anymore. Germany got it in over 120 years ago and is doing pretty well, no? it's 2009 for fuck's sake
