Black NFL Players ‘Wouldn’t Play’ For Limbaugh’s Team: ‘He’s A Jerk’

http://thinkprogress.org/...ugh-nfl-2/

"Earlier this week, the media reported that hate radio host Rush Limbaugh is involved in a bid to purchase the National Football League’s St. Louis Rams franchise. Many sports media figures lambasted the idea of Limbaugh owning an NFL team, with one writer saying it “would definitely hurt” the Rams while another said his “head exploded after hearing this Limbaugh news” because he is “a pungent bowl of stark raving bigoted lunacy.”

Now, the players themselves are piling on. Specifically, many African-American players have explicitly stated that they would never play for a team that Rush Limbaugh owns.
“All I know is from the last comment I heard, he said in (President) Obama’s America, white kids are getting beat up on the bus while black kids are chanting ‘right on,’” New York Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka told the New York Daily News, adding, “I don’t want anything to do with a team that he has any part of.” Other black players expressed similar sentiments "

If you were a Black Football player on the St. Louis Rams, would you feel comfortable playing on a team Rush Limbaugh owned knowing the type of content he spews daily and makes his money off?

If you received a very high salary for playing for him, knowing the nasty comments he spews on a daily basis, in which some of the content he spews may be directed towards many in your race, would that bother your conscious, and would you still play for him if it does?

My opinion, I would never sell my soul to a son-of-a-b*tch like Rush.

Now if a specific amount of money is flashed in their faces, let's see how long they'll continue to speak up, then we'll know how true they are to what they speak.

I can almost hear him calling one of the NFL players by the "N" word everytime they do something on the field he doesn't like, not to mention him talking about the black players he may "own." I'm sure he'd love saying he owns them.
There's only but so long a person could continue to spew what he does on a daily basis, not to mention, not thinking that what spews will not come back and slap him hard on his ass one day. He's possessed by his own BS.

No, of course not. For some unknown reason, a huge amount of Americans have developed an unfounded yet intense dislike for the man that can no way be based on anything he's ever said about Donovan McNabb, Barack Obama, Chelsea Clinton or anyone else.

This is indeed a true case of "Rush Limbaugh is right and about 65,000,000 adults are wrong".

Absolutely, no doubt about it.

Have you ever heard any of the comments Rush has made in the past or present you didn't find offensive? This man became wealthy off the racist/homophobic and sexist BS he spews.

No, no, no - see, you are one of the 65,000,000 that despise Limbaugh for no good actual reason.

This is the biggest case of mass delusion in recorded history and I, for one, feel very sorry for Mr. Limbaugh - a man who has never ever once said anything that any rational person could take offense with as racist or hateful.

I don't see it. Free agent dollars I think will speak louder than Limbaugh being a vanity minority owner, a la Serena Williams "ownership" of the Miami Dolphins . . . .

Just yesterday, Rush Limbaugh SAID, "Our President is a worldwide joke. Folks do you realize something has happened here that we all agree with the Taliban and Iran about and that is he doesn't deserve the award." in regards to the President of the United States, winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

You can watch him say it here for yourself. He begins blathering at 0:56

If anyone had said they agreed with the Taliban and their opinions on George W. Bush on ANYTHING, Limbaugh himself would have labeled them "Terrorist Sympathizes"!

What part is racist? It was stupid and not all that accurate. But it was not racist?

EDIT
*and no I did not watch that woman. I am not spending 11 minutes on that. I took your word for what Rush said. I assume if there is more then you posted the worst. And it is pretty bad. But not racist. I might give you hateful. But really it is not ANY worst that the garbage elected officials have said about Bush.

EDIT 2
Oh i missed the 56 second thing. Yeah that is what he said. Not racist.

as for that woman, she comes across as pretty full of hate herself. I have seen here a few times. She is just as smug and condescending and full of herself as any right wing radio host.

You didn't specify "racist". You said "objectionable". Isn't calling the President of the United States who has just been awarded the Noble Peace Prize, the joke of the world and saying you agree with known terrorists..."objectionable"...enough for you?

You didn't have to watch "that woman" for 11 minutes, as I listed Limbaugh speaks at the 0:56 mark. Your reply says all that needs to be said, trust me!

Yeah I said "Objectionable" but the original charge was about racist remarks. I agree what Rush said is not nice and YES Objectionable.

Well the only way to find out is to listen to his show and hear his rants. I'm certainly not going to do the work for you. It is well known the man has a racist attitude towards a specific part of the population.

I have not that the luxury of middle of the day radio listening time in years.

But IF he has daily hate fill racist and homophobic rants then I am sure there are 100s of examples out there. I have found a few that are like the one posted by HatrinaHaterwitz. Not very nice and not very well based in facts but far from racist and not at all homophobic.

But to the actual topic. If they do not want to pay they can give up their contracts and walk. I have a feeling that if it happens that most guys will get over it and keep playing.

Here's just a FEW examples (And believe me, there's a lot more where these came from.). If you don't find these remarks racist, than you and I simply have a very different definition of the word .
:
Rush Limbaugh:

"The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies."

"They're 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?"

"They oughta change Black History Month to Black Progress Month and start measuring it."

"I mean, let's face it, we didn't have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I'm not saying we should bring it back; I'm just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark."

"You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray. We miss you, James. Godspeed."

No I did not soften it. The racist content he spews comes from the racist attitude he holds. My homework is done, and by the way, you chose to respond to this thread. It is no fault of mine how Rush presents himself to the general public. If you don't agree he spews racist content, so be it. You don't have to agree, you have the personal choice of disgreeing. I've heard enough of his content since the Bill Clinton days, to know what he's all about. My opinion about him stays.

He spews racist content that comes from the racist attitude he holds. I have no reason or desire to "soften" anything I say about Rush. I speak my mind and see things for what they are, not how I want them to be. If you spew racist content all over television and radio, then you are what you want people to perceive you to be, and many perceive Rush Limbaugh, as racist, because he spews that kind of hatred from his own mouth.

just copying and pasting, i have not verified these, but... i googled "racism rush limbaugh" and this was the first link:

http://newsone.com/obama/...gh-quotes/

Top 10 Racist Rush Limbaugh Quotes

1. I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.

Okay Rush, slavery was not a good thing for the millions of African Americans who were enslaved, raped and beaten. The streets weren’t at all safe for African Americans. Slavery not a bad thing? Someone should put Rush on a plantation for him to see how great it is. Keep on fear and race mongering Rush, you might get to Goebels status.

2. You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed.

Martin Luther King is a national hero, not a black hero. Everybody in the United States celebrates his birthday, children are taught to look up to him as a hero in school. He’s earned the respect and admiration of the world and you believe the man who killed him was a hero? This is beyond racist. This is evil, mean spirited, subhuman. Praising the assassin of one of our great American heroes is beyond the scope of regular racism.

3. Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?

No but I’ve noticed that all racist bigots think like Rush Limbaugh. Comparing a respected black politician and minister to common criminals is Jim Crow racism. Maybe all black people look alike to him, but I’ve never seen a picture of a wanted criminal that looks like Jesse Jackson. A serial killer that looks like Rush Limbaugh on the other hand.

John Wayne Gacy

4. Right. So you go into Darfur and you go into South Africa, you get rid of the white government there. You put sanctions on them. You stand behind Nelson Mandela — who was bankrolled by communists for a time, had the support of certain communist leaders. You go to Ethiopia. You do the same thing.

The communist connection is an old way of dealing with black leaders. They used it on Martin Luther King, they’re using it on Barack Obama and Limbaugh used it on Nelson Mandela. By siding with the racist apartheid regime over a world-wide symbol of peace and freedom, Limbaugh has shown he’s a global racist.

5. Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.

Limbaugh is once again fear mongering and race baiting by associating professional black athletes with criminals and gangmembers. He continues the fear mongering association of good, decent, hard working African Americans as criminals.

6. The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.

Now Limbaugh is saying that an organization with a storied tradition of representing the positive black people for change in their communities are criminals and rioters. An organization that has been represented by intelligent professional African Americans, that has played a part in the Civil Rights movement and continues to be an intelligent, concerned voice for the African American community is degraded to common criminals. There you go Rush. Keep racism alive!!!!

7. They’re 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?

Decent human beings care Rush. Someone out of that 12% may just become President of the United States. Not caring about black people? Even George Bush wouldn’t admit to that.

8. Take that bone out of your nose and call me back(to an African American female caller).

Okay Rush that’s classy. The old African bone in the nose stereotype. Wasn’t funny when the racist white school kids called the black kids that and it’s definitely not funny when a grown man with audience of millions of easily influenced dittoheads says it either.

9. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They’re interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there’s a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn’t deserve.

I wasn’t super offended by this, the whole black quarterback/coach thing has been going on for years in sports, but the quote was so offensive that Retired General Wesley Clarke said:

There can be no excuse for such statements. Mr. Limbaugh has the right to say whatever he wants, but ABC and ESPN have no obligation to sponsor such hateful and ignorant speech. Mr. Limbaugh should be fired immediately.

When a respected, retired general condemns the statement of a sportscaster, you know he’s gone too far.

10. Limbaugh attacks on Obama. Limbaugh has called Obama a ‘halfrican American’ has said that Obama was not black but Arab because Kenya is an Arab region, even though Arabs are less than one percent of Kenya. Since mainstream America has become more accepting of African-Americans, Limbaugh has decided to play against its new racial fears, Arabs and Muslims. Despite the fact Obama graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law school, Limbaugh has called him an ‘affirmative action candidate.’ Limbaugh even has repeatedly played a song on his radio show ‘Barack the Magic Negro’ using an antiquated Jim Crow era term for black a man who many Americans are supporting for president. Way to go Rush.

You know what's funny? Rush has been spewing his racist BS for years and it's amazing how I've heard some folks on other websites, disagree that what he spews is not racist. Go figure. Rush has become a prisoner of his own racial hatred. I'm glad some of these NFL players are speaking out on how they feel about him. I just hope the same ones making those comments of not playing for him, won't be swayed by money.

But it was not racist?

as for that woman, she comes across as pretty full of hate herself. I have seen here a few times. She is just as smug and condescending and full of herself as any right wing radio host.

There's one big difference- Rachel is a brilliant highly educated woman with a doctorate degree from Oxford (and the facts on her side). Most of the right-wing hosts are uneducated idiots (Rush- dropped out of college after one semester; Hannity-another college drop-out. Beck- spent most of his younger days in a drug and alcohol stupor, and seems to have never come out of it)

In 1992, on his now-defunct TV show, Limbaugh expressed his ire when Spike Lee urged that black schoolchildren get off from school to see his film Malcolm X: "Spike, if you're going to do that, let's complete the education experience. You should tell them that they should loot the theater, and then blow it up on their way out."

When Carol Moseley-Braun (D-IL) was in the U.S. Senate, the first black woman ever elected to that body, Limbaugh would play the "Movin' On Up" theme song from TV's Jeffersons when he mentioned her. Limbaugh sometimes still uses mock dialect -- substituting "ax" for "ask"-- when discussing black leaders.
