Jehovah looking down on Serena Williams.....

Serena Williams Swears to God
What do the Jehovah's Witnesses make of the tennis champion's tirade on the court?
By Juliet Lapidos
Updated Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at 6:18 PM ET

After being called for a foot fault in her U.S. Open match against Kim Clijsters Saturday night, Serena Williams let loose on the line judge: "I swear to God, I'm [expletive] going to take this [expletive] ball and shove it down your [expletive] throat, you hear that? I swear to God," she said. Williams, a practicing Jehovah's Witness who won't vote for religious reasons, got into trouble with the United States Tennis Association—she's been fined $10,000—but could she also be in trouble with her church? How do the Jehovah's Witnesses feel about cussing?

I was under the impression that profanity was frowned upon by almost all religions, Christian or otherwise?

I must admit that I have not... lol

Seriously though, I don't know of a religion that officially condones cussing.

let's just say when the convent doors are shut they are totally different than you'd imagine them be.

the only unforgivable sin is to blaspheme the holy spirit.

all other sins are forgivable.
to endlessly remark on serena williams sin is to "judge" her state of mind at the time she made an impassioned remark during her work.

trying to judge her state of mind was pointed out by jesus as a no go.
it's best just to move along on this issue and forgive her.

cheers!

although i am not religious, i kinda like that idea

so we can forgive Kanye West too? but the media would not be happy because it makes a good story.....so is the media sinning?

well, at least we have a thread about Serena that does not get closed due to too much of the potty mouth - as Prince would say

I doubt very much whether the Williams Sisters are still Jehovahs Witnesses now anyway, because for one thing the JWs frown upon competitiveness and the concept of winning at all costs, which their sport obviously promotes!! They may have been BORN into the Faith, but, God created in us the ability of Free Will to decide for ourselves which paths we take in life, whether good or bad, even though He laid out for us the consequences, albeit good or bad, that we reap for the choices we make in life!!! And, it is obvious, by their actions that the Williams Sisters, chose 2 opt for a life in the Tennis world instead of a life devoted 2 worshipping Jehovah!!! Also, I blame their father for encouraging them more in their Tennis than in a life devoted 2 Jehovah(The same scenario as with Michael Jackson). For example, how can u display the "Fruitages of the Holy Spirit" as mentioned In Galatians 5:22,23 and then go out on the tennis court with the sole purpose of thrashing your opponent 2 bits????

Yes, I too hate it when I hear stories of parents that have not sufficiently forcably indoctrinated their children, yet have instead encouraged them to make the most of their talents. Sooo incredibly frustrating.

Yes. I hate it when that happens. Such wasted time and effort for those 2 sisters that can hardly last one set on the tennis court without getting tired. If only Jehovah could save them now.

Well, theres nothing wrong in spending time and effort on persueing and fullfilling your God-given talents and gifts and even building a career on them, but, ultimately its all a question of BALANCE and priority!! Matthew 6:33 advises Gods people 2, and I paraphrase here, "seek FIRST the Kingdom of God, then everything else will b added 2 u"!! In the case of the Williams Sisters, I bet they spend virtually 24/7 on the tennis court practising and honing in on their game, plus all the travelling time all over the world for tournaments, etc., then all other appearences(Like Serena was on Good Morning America yesterday for example), so what time do they have left for spiritual things???? Somethings got 2 give!!!!! And it depends on what u feel is more important in your life as 2 what u can let go for the sake of the other!!!!

Yes, it is a small miracle that they haven't exploded yet due the lack of an outlet for their spirituality. I mean we see it all the time don't we? Those who live without religion spontaneously combusting all over the place? Don't people realise that there's no need to be outside in the sun getting some exercise when you could be in a dark room reading the bible? Sooo incredibly frustrating that people don't get this..
