20,000 problem families to be monitored via cameras in their own homes.

AN excerpt from an article.

THOUSANDS of the worst families in England are to be put in “sin bins” in a bid to change their bad behaviour, Ed Balls announced yesterday.

The Children’s Secretary set out £400million plans to put 20,000 problem families under 24-hour CCTV super-vision in their own homes.

They will be monitored to ensure that children attend school, go to bed on time and eat proper meals.

http://www.express.co.uk/...iew/115736

Taxpayers paying to monitor families to make sure they are living right?
The UK already has the most surveillance cameras in public, now in the homes?
How much control do they want? This is Orwellian 4 sho.
Imagine this going down in the USA?

"It is the system of nationalist ndividualism that has to go...Countless people...will hate the new world order....and will die protesting against it." HG Wells

That's insane. Anyone from England here to add some perspective.
It's almost certain once our government takes over healthcare, they'll be tracking and taxing what we consume.

They could do that without taking over healthcare . . . .
They don't have to track and I guess you mean further tax what you consume. They can simply ban or restrict the availability. Twinkies behind the counter . . .

Why not monitor as an alternative to jail or prison? Safer and cheaper.
Oh, I forgot. It's about jobs. What the prison industry going to do if we have alternatives? They have families to feed, so they need their criminals.

They just need to stop doling money out to people whom are able to work but won't.

Living off state benefits is a viable career choice in the U.K. I'm not joking.

If these nuisance families were forced to work, they'd learn a little respect.

in case somebody would actually take this seriously...

http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/ne...cts&type=1

"Responding to stories claiming that irresponsible families will be monitored by CCTV cameras in their own homes, a DCSF spokesperson said:

Families will not be monitored by CCTV in their own homes. Through Family Intervention Projects (FIPs) we are supporting and challenging the small number of families involved in persistent anti-social behaviour. FIP workers spend time observing families in their own homes, helping them to recognise that their anti-social behaviour is unacceptable. They focus on the causes of their behaviour, and challenge them to make changes so they can turn their lives around. A very small number of families who need further intensive support are placed in residential units with project workers living with them – this does not involve CCTV.

This is part of the Government’s approach to preventing and tackling anti-social behaviour and youth crime. In the last year alone, FIPs have challenged and supported over 2300 families to turn their behaviour around. Twelve months on from the Youth Crime Action Plan, Ed Balls and Alan Johnson have written to all local authorities in England asking them to expand and accelerate FIPs. Councils and police have reported that FIPs are an excellent way of preventing and tackling crime and anti-social behaviour."

now, i would like to know more about that program - has anybody here heard about this in more detail? how are the families selected, what are the outcomes of the program, etc.?

I dismissed it when I saw it was from the Express. Along with the Daily Mail, they are no more than "tabloids" in fancy clothes.

Can't say I've heard anything about these projects. But that's probably because I don't live in England. confused

Family Intervention Projects have developed out of the Government’s anti-social behaviour strategy which has focused on tackling anti-social behaviour such as neighbour nuisance. They have drawn on the pioneering work of the Dundee Families Project established by NCH in 1995.
