Other than the YELLING PART (lol), I get what you're saying and agree with you for the most part. I can understand being disappointed if your favorite artist changes his lifestyle and it effects his/her artistic output...but the anger and complete disrespect thrown his way for a personal spiritual choice seems immature to say the least.

I have no problem with Prince being a JW, sure I admit because of this religion he can't do certain things like he use to which sometimes make me made, but at the same time it's not cool to make fun/hate someone because of religious beliefs. wink That's just Dumb Muthsfuckas for ya Son.

JW serves it's purpose in respect to being in the public eye - I think he tends to hide behind his religion. Other than that I don't have a problem. Believing is a wonderful thing, it gives you guidance and courage and love.

Although; sometimes you need to realize that at one point your opinion will clash with your religion and you need to stand up for yourself and say yes this is what my religion says but I THINK I should do this instead because I’m an individual.

Anyway, Prince's religion doesn't bother me. At least he ain't killin anyone.
I don't agree with most JW teachings, but I don't see how talkin him (Prince) down so much will help.
Dude been talked down alot throughout his life I'm sure..."Controversy".
I jus don't get wat Prince can possibly do to make me so mad at him to go on rants about his religion/business strategies/celibacy or sex/wat he chooses to wear/who he chooses to be around/wat he chooses to play/how he chooses to cut his hair eek
I mean the things ppl rant about in here disbelief
Til he does something that'll affect me directly and I have no control over, then I'll rant...
til then...keep doin and being u Prince smile Most of the ppl fit aren't that upset...they're jus spoiled lol

I'm one of the few people who thinks that becoming a Witness was a good thing for Prince, and I'm hardly religious.

He was sinking personally before he became a JW.

He lost his son
He lost his wife
He lost both parents

All at an extremely short period of time.

The average person would have sank to the depths.

People are so quick to blame Larry Graham for "brainwashing" Prince, but if Larry was his heroin dealer. No one would have a problem with it.

People blame his religion for the quality of his music declining. That just happens with age.

He's not gonna be as good a songwriter in his 50's that he was at 25. I think it's hard for people to understand that. His mind just isn't as sharp as it was.

Michael Jordan can't dunk from the free throw line anymore, but it's not his fault.

I think that sums it up pretty neatly. Peoples abilities do decline with age, not what religion they choose.
Prince lost a lot in a short time, and being a JW is/was a good crutch. Better than turning to drugs or some other such.

The Jehovah's Witnesses is a sect. It's authoritarian and if you leave the sect you're spiritually dead, and the friends you have in the sect... don't expect them to say hi to you on the street, that's official doctrine.

When Prince joined the JW I realized he's one of those folks that are easily fooled by religious charisma.

The sect officially believed with certainty that the world would end in 1914. Then the world was apparently about to end in the 70s when the JW proclaimed there was only a short time left and they commended members for selling their homes and property. But being a sect, these major errors did not stop them from seeing "many indications" in 1984 that the end was nearer than the end of the 20th century.

Freedom of religion is very importnant and so is the right to criticize religions. When people make bad choices it's importnant to say so.

So people have freedom of picking a religion and if they happen to pick the wrong religion it's a bad choice? So what is the "right" religion? What is the "wrong" religion?

I don't care that Prince is a JW or not.

If someone thinks women should be forced to wear a veil, which they are in several countries, I would speak up and say it's a bad choice. If someone joins an organization like the JW who requires members to ingnore ex-members on the street, even if they are friends, that's a bad choice and that's bullying. I'm an atheist, but also major christian movements like protestants and catholics consider the JW to be a sect.

Would you want to be a member of a religion that teaches that you can't see your best friend anymore, and that you can't say hi to her/him, because your friend happened to leave the religion? If another religion teaches that you can continue to be friends with someone even if they left your religion, wouldn't you consider that to be a better religion?

It's kind of arrogant for any of us to assume we know the "right" religious choice for any other individual to choose...

It's still an individual choice...now, forcing OTHERS to abide by YOUR choice is a different story. But if I choose to ignore friends because I'm a JW, or because I've just decided to become a loner, it's still my choice. And for the record, I don't think JWs are told to ignore old friends on the street...For that matter I have numerous JW members acknowledge me and talk to me as we pass, and no, they aren't trying to give me pamphlets when they do lol...they're just being friendly.

It's always the individual's choice but that doesn't mean I have to like their choice. I have relatives that are JW and I know that the JW considers ex-members to be spiritually dead and that members can't greet ex-members. It's one thing if you never joined the sect, then they can say hi to you, but if someone joined the sect and then leaved, then it's forbidden to greet them.

Why is it if a religion speaks against who I am it's considered "belief", but when I make a comment on what I think and feel of that religion it's considered disrespect?

Umm..no, sorry.

They are telling "The truth"?

Not IMO... disbelief
