Um, that's fucking bizarre.

Anyhoo, as a veteran of these types of events, it looks to me as if the picture was from the very end when he was clearly done speaking and whoever did show up had already left. That said, I can tell you from experience that when it becomes clear to bookstore management that an event will be a dud, they have the staff take off their name tags and sit in the chairs to make it look full. I wonder if that happened here, or if they didn't even bother.
