Invitation to the Inauguration

Has anyone other than myself, giggle received one of the "commemorative" beautifully engraved invitations to the Inauguration?

I've been on the road for the last week and a half and my mail piled up. So I was going through this stack of mail this morning and the last envelope was from The Presidential Inaugural Committee. Inside was a beautifully engraved 8 x 11 invitation.

The letter that came with it says, "This commemorative invitation invites your presence at any of the public events in what will be the most open and accessible Inauguration in American history."

Since there was no postmark on the envelope I checked online to see if I could find any info about it. So far all I found are reports on the company that made them. According to then there were a million made. Before anyone complains about wastefulness or anything, do read the article! http://abcnews.go.com/WN/...id=6551979

I know you still have to have special tickets for certain events but I just thought this was so awesome to have. cool

Sneaky as I am, I requested two tickets (so I can take my wife). My request was denied. In fact, I am the only reporter at my newspaper who got a press ticket. They are very limited this year because of the unusually high media interest.
I had to pull some serious strings to get the two tickets for the ball so I can take wifey. smile

I've seen that invitation before. Have you volunteered for the campaign? The invitation is a means to reward volunteers, but unfortunately, it's just that. It doesn't get you a seat and it doesn't get you access to other related events, like the ball. It's basically their way of saying "thanks for the help, you should come to inauguration".
But it definitely looks cool and it's worth keeping.

I know this site is a pro-Obama site, but being a "thinker" I don't believe there is any difference in these people that get elected... they are going to take our money. I think we should give back power to GOD... we don't need to have people in control of our lives, whether it's repubs with the rich and powerful or the dems who want to tax us to death... "the lesser of two evils"??
"illusion of choice".... I've made my life what it is, I take actions for myself and don't need government to control what I have. I made it on my own, and I'll keep it on my own. And I hate to say this, but a lot of my friends said that they voted just because of race... they knew nothing about Obama's policies... it's a shame.

My dear "thinker", think about this: If we give power back to God, will God provide health care, infrastructure, national security, welfare, etc.? Don't you think that God has given us the power of intellect, so we can govern ourselves and create constructive societies?
And if God is the mighty powerful being, why would we have the power to take power away from him in the first place?
Your way of thought is flawed, my friend, and clouded by religious doctrine. Free yourself from mixing your belief with a necessary political layout that every society needs. We're only human, after all. wink

Sorry... I thought threads were open 4 people 2 add 2 it, or am I wrong? Let some-1 have a different opinion and they get jumped on here... that, my friend, is the shame. Your anitquated ideals of how a country should be run by a larger government who takes and takes and takes and gives nothing is unbelievable.

Wait a minute .. don't misquote me. First of all, I've never said that this wasn't an open forum and that you shouldn't add to it. But just as you are free to add your opinion, I am free to add mine. Your point made zero sense, which is why you have failed to address the content of my response. Instead, you took offense that I questioned your way of thought.
Second, where did you get the idea that I believe a country should be run by a larger government which "takes and takes and takes and gives nothing"?
I'm all for a good debate. But please address my actual points, instead of making something up. Thank you.

This thread is for discussing Hatrina's invitation to the inauguration. Please keep on that topic or begin another thread, preferably not to go at each other. - Mars23

You couldn't have been addressing me, since I said nothing about "larger government"! I said you were raining on the joy of my thread, which you are.

This thread is about the Inauguration. You are more than welcome to discuss the topic at hand, which you were not doing. So therefore, I think you should make your own thread, then you would be more than welcome to talk about whatever it is you want.
