Katrina's Hidden Race War

In this Nation Institute/Hidden Driver exclusive, reporter A.C. Thompson talks with innocent victims and ruthless vigilantes about his expose on shootings of black New Orleans residents fleeing the city in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and police misconduct after the storm. I just watched this video on another site earlier today. Although I am not shocked by any act of racism, I found this story interesting in that it is another side of the Katrina aftermath that has not been fully explored. Within every "major" story there is a plethora of smaller stories waiting to be told. Therefore, I appreciate the journalist's efforts in sharing this story. I was looking for the "Welcome to New Orleans" documentary to order and show my students but I could not find it. It is available in parts on Youtube, so I guess I will watch it there. neutral

They should bring those people that pulled guns on those citizens up on charges. If it was the other way around, they certainly would have hunted them down and arrested them.

It's ridiculous that in this day and time, racist fools still think they could take the law in their hands and pull guns on innocent people, fleeing from a natural disaster, and all the victims wanted was to flee from the disaster. When I hear stories like this, it angers me. I blame many in the media for some of the racist, and false reporting that was going on at the time, causing a panic among the citizens of New Orleans. It just angers me that people can get away with doing these things and not paying for it.
