That was gripping! I'm not in the States anymore, but it seems that some things may never change, and the way that the McCain-Palin ticket is campaigning is indeed dangerous and repulsive.

Oh snap! That's hittin' him right where it counts.

I've not heard any of these shouts during their speeches (save the Quinnell wingnut), but I am not surprised to know that they are happening. They know it's coming (Obama's winning) and they know there's not much that they can do but shout out violent rhetoric. But like Anne Moody said in her book (paraphrase), you can't really blame the person, you blame the disease (of racism).

This is the type of outrage I'd expect from so-called liberals/progressives. But just the opposite has occurred...complacency even ridicule for those who ring the alarm. I'd wonder how this would all go down had the opposite occured...Obama riding the hate wagaon. Oh wait, Jeremiah Wright...at least a month's worth of outraged media coverage, but with McCain't, a mere "special comment" from Keith Olbermann.

Some kinda equality, eh?

clapping great comment, as usual.

two things i've been thinking about:

- why is it that some people aren't willing or able to accept criticism, even from a person they claim to respect? does it not occur to McCain that Lewis' concerns may just be valid? do they have to be rejected outright, and spun in the worst ways?
- we've already seen where that sort of hatred can lead. somehow, we've already forgotten about Timothy Dale Johnson, fueled by mental instability and Limbaugh's books, shooting and killing Bill Gwatney, chair of the AR democratic party. that was only 2 months ago.

this needs to stop. and McCain's denial and projection won't cut it.

I'm so glad somebody made a thread about this! I seen the show last night. I think this thread should be a sticky. It definitely sums up McCain's campaign. Keith was right on Point! I hope this gets a lot of news coverage today. You should change the title to the "The Summary of McCain's campaign". McCain and Palin are definitely playing with Fire. mad

Dang!! Get 'em K.O.!!!

I am glad that someone busted McCain for trying to play the victim card. My hate level for the Republicans has went up another notch.

clapping I heard this on the radio today. I get so frustrated because I feel I have no voice when it comes to the way things are done in this country. I am so grateful for people like Keith. Bravo!!!

Oh my goodness!

This is so true. And it is so scary.

I am very worried. I have a friend who just came back from France. She told me she is very worried about this same thing.

I am telling you it is the.. looneytunes are in charge.

It has been like this for so long in America on Fox News where these shows, once only on the radio are now on television. It now like these people are given credibility-and McCain is pandering to them. He knows better, and he should be ashamed.

I'm so scared that there will be a big race riot...dissolving into long standing race WARS once Obama is elected.

During the primary season ... I was thinking -- especially after the speech on race that Obama gave -- that his election would bring a more cohesive America. Now, I think just the opposite. I think it will bring out cruelty of the worst kind.

The underlying hatred this campaign is stoking is unreal.

P.S. It doesn't help that some people are using Obama as some sort of race icon, making this a choice between black and white.

I worry very much for him--this is what my friend said even.

This is why McCain/Palin should have never gone down this road--outside of the fact it is horrible to begin with.

McCain's defensiveness keeps him from seeing the validity of Lewis' comments. The comparison was valid because as you point out, these things always start with hate speech and escalate from there.

Good for Keith and others who are exposing it.

What John McCain has become is just beyond disgusting. Had he received the nomination in 2000 I would have voted for him over Gore. Now I won't ever consider a Republican to my grave.....
