How i see an Avatar is an incarnation of the Divine. While the Avatar actually walks on this Earth and appears to be human, well, they are and are not. The Avatar has Cosmic Consciousness while appearing human. The Avatar walks and talks among us while the whole Cosmic Consciousness is going on in Them also. Jesus was/is an Avatar. Mother Meera, Karunamayi, Mata Amritanadamayi and Shree Maa are examples of Avatars in flesh today. To me, an Avatar doesn't state that they are. Their eyes are unlike any that I know and their compassion and kindness and willingness to take away karmaload (sins) from us in beyond comprehension. They must suffer to take on our karmaload and relieve us of sins and they must take over and do our prayers for us when we make a resolve to do such and then don't continue with our Sankalpas. The Avatars that i have seen call us their childeren...all of us...each person, each flower, each follower.

A book that I'm reading references avatars and calls them "Hallucenogenia". I think they are conjured spirit forms.

"The Sanskrit word avatara means "descent"; its roots are ava ("down"), and tri ("to pass").
In the Hindu scriptures, avatara signifies the descent of Divinity into flesh."

~ God Talks With Arjuna: The Bhagavad Gita, xxviii

They're characters in a cancelled HBO TV seres called Carnivale razz

You could be a part-time model, but you'd probably have to keep your normal job

From the Sanskrit descent of the spiritual into the physical.

A spiritual presence from a non-physical domain deciding to take on a flesh body.

Everyone of us is an Avatar playing hide and seek with ourselves through an elaborate game of layered amnesia that seems to be a prerequisite for arriving on earth and assuming a new identity.

We must obliterate any recollection of past lives or non-physical existence.

In the beginning you knew...
Then you pretended to forget...
Then you pretended to forget you forgot...
Then you forgot you pretended...
Remember?

The recovery of the memory that it was a deliberate decision to forget is the reawakening of the Avatar.
