If Obama becomes President...

do you think he will get assassinated? I mean is America REALLY ready for a black President? Will some fanatic lose it and make his life goal to kill him?

Don't get me wrong it would be a great thing to see Obama win as it would (hopefully) set a new tone about race in the US...hell even world wide! Perhaps it will be the resurrection of Tu Pac razz

Uh, yeah - A "Tupac" reference really makes sense here. Good one.

But don't get it twisted, there are still tons of people that can't handle a Black man as president. If elected, I certainly will be concerned about his safety, given the history of America.

One thing it WILL do is, it will HELP erase the negative images associated with Blacks, especially Black men, when the leader of the free world is a Black man. That shit will be epic as far as images go.

People are more ready than they realize, like gay marriage, but they have to see it and realize the sky didn't fall.
If Obama is elected, a second term should be doable.
There are probably 50-60 million white Americans who never considered the President would be anyone but a white man. But at least no one any longer thinks the Presidency is reserved only for white men.

just out of sheer curiosity, do you think any of the Hollywood portrayals of Black men as President (Morgan Freeman etc.) have helped at all?

Well then you better throw those chains in the gutter where they belong..(j/k)....no but seriously, I fear for Senator Obama right now. There's still a lot of psychos that will stop at nothing to take him down. Many are still not ready to see a person of color as President, no matter how many degrees he has, or how compassionate he is about hoping for change in America, we still have many that are just not ready to see this happen.

I was listening to some of the phone calls after the convention was over, on CSPAN, and just listening to some of the people that called into the station already confirmed to me that they have problems with his race.

The anchor person asked this woman from the south who had called in, why she thought Senator Obama wasn't her choice to be President, and she responded that because he was in Rev Wright's church for so long and should have left and, that if that was a white man that people would have been all over him. She should have checked out some of McCain's associations before she made that comment.

I wish I could have asked her how come some of her past relatives before her sat on their f*****g asses for years while Jim Crow and segregation laws existed, as they watched other people's civil rights being denied, like they didn't know it was happening, and kept silent just to keep their own lives comfortable, and did nothing to stop it.

See... Hollywood has always (to my knowledge...) put forth that it's a good idea, no harm done, no a problem etc. Does this have any effect on the thoughts of the average voter??

What I think we need to remember is that until 2007, no one thought much of the idea of a black President.
Yes, 24 had one and they existed in the movies but so do light sabers.

Until he actually won the nomination, no one had to deal with themselves and their beliefs.
They think the country is changing, well yes, it's called change and sometimes progress.
I think people want to evaluate him as any other candidate but don't know if his race should or shouldn't be a factor and Obama is not helping them. He's race neutral.
Some people resist change for no other reason than it's change.
Others realize the color of the President doesn't matter but again, if the President isn't white, for some people, it's who's going to look after your interests.
If people were more honest internally they could race their fears and release them rather than be a hostage to them.

Oddly enough, I do. I even think Dennis Haysbert made a comment about that.
