Democracy of course.

democracy is idiocy

poor, hard-working people can´t be expected to be well-informed politically.
they don´t have the time or the energy

in a state of desperation people are easily manipulated.

For poof of this look at the history of American government, with their "attempt" at democracy.

Theocracy is better as long as God has the right definition, or non-definition.

Meritocracy is better than both in principle. smile

If you put God or Jesus in charge I can live in a theocracy.
No man can create a theocracy, that is just a dictatorship with religion as a facade.

Meanwhile, civic knowledge is enhanced by discussing public affairs, taking part in civic activities and reading about current events and history, the group said.

what is meritocracy?

the attempt was not sincere to begin with.
democracy can´t and hasn´t worked.
picture democracy in a the scale of any family household where each vote is of equal value. I don´t want to spell things out but if you excercise a little imagination you´ll soon see the problems. It can´t work.

meritocracy is basicaly people of merit having the power to make decisions for others.

I agree. Anything mixed with capitalism is sure to end in ugliness and stupidity.

And which is the US nearer to at present?
What chance would any presidential candidate have if they came out publically as being an atheist?

Uh, what's happening CC? They still call it the White House
But that's a temporary condition, too. Can you dig it, CC?

Theocracy, meaning people would decide that some God rules over them?

Theocracy is bullshit. It's always people calling the shots.

A true democracy at least gives the majority of the people the chance to rule, in some form, or at least influence who rules.

If they take that chance that is.

If they do not, the people fall prey to the aristocrats, or to a plutocracy, where those with the most money and power rule, as history proves.

neither. theocracy puts the power in a fairy-tale God, yet democracy puts the power in human beings, and neither by itself is enough. I put the power in people that manifest the teachings of the New Testament into action in their daily lives, without the need to label themselves because they're doing so.
