What do condoms and plastic bags have in common besides the grocery store? I'd like to clear up a puzzling question I have. So liberals or leftists have implemented an opinion with authoratative action in some states which is the banning of plastic bags in the supermarket. Their reason: plastic bags are not biodegradable and sit in land fills for thousands of years. But what's puzzling is their overzealous enthusiasm when it comes to passing out an abundance of condoms to the public. Condoms are damaging to the environment also but for some reason the nuisance they cause to the environment doesn't matter to liberals. To me the logic leads to hypocrisy. Can you guys make sense of it? The cynical and indifferent know not what they miss. For their mistake is an impediment not only to our progress as a civilization but to their happiness as individuals.

For public policy it makes a lot of sense. Plastic bags are larger, much more recklessly discarded, and pose a hazard to a larger range of animals and plants. If people chose to properly dispose of plastic and other packaging materials these regulation wouldn't be required but they are. No one walks behind each of us keeping plastic out of sewers, waterways, parks . . . we leave trash wherever we go and think nothing of it. (can you tell I have a problem with litterbugs? lol)Where were we . . . Condoms on the other hand are smaller and yes dangerous to animals much larger than their size, they are usually properly disposed of. Even if flushed they can be properly disposed of. Condoms aren't usually thrown in every environment known to mankind. Condoms usually are to heavy to inflate and aren't likely to blow well away from where it was thrown away. Lastly and most importantly, condoms are known to save lives, and in the interest of the health and safety of all of us, we will tolerate latex and other manufactured materials to be used in contraceptive devices for the benefit they provide to all of us collectively. The same argument cannot be made for plastic grocery bags. They're not equivalent. For one, plastic bags serve no essential purpose to society whereas condoms can prevent the spread of infectious diseases. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Uh.... condoms are NOT made of plastic, they are made of a rubber based extract called Latex. Rubber and latex rot and disintegrate much faster than plastic. Polyurethane condoms are a different story, those take much longer to breakdown. | |

latex is biodegradable (when not under water, that is). It is an all-natural substance made from the sap of rubber trees. Latex condoms are not composed of 100 percent latex, though. Another material used to make condoms, lambskin, is also biodegradable.
