IMO - up until the fetus has a heartbeat then it is just a fetus, but after the heart signals the begining of independent life, it is an unborn child and should be treated as such.

I'm not in any way, shape or form stating a medical or legal fact, just my opinion. Personally, I equate stopping a beating heart tantamount to killing.

AND as it has been stated by others (whom I ordinarily do not agree with) ...if you can condone stopping a beating heart from a 6-week-old (pre birth) child, then you should have no problem stopping the heart from a 36-year-old gang rapist/murderer.
