Strong Earthquake Rattles Nevada

Lately there's been volcanoes erupting and now there's been a strong quake in Nevada. I've always thought there's a connection between volcanoes and earthquakes. Was anyone in the vicinity or feel this one?

ELKO, Nev. (Feb. 21) - A strong earthquake shook rural northeastern Nevada Thursday, and there were early reports of damage in some communities, authorities said.

The quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 and was reported at 6:16 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was centered in a sparsely populated area 11 miles southeast of Wells near the Nevada-Utah line.

"It was pretty bad," said Jane Kelso, who answered the phone at the Motel 6. "Everything in our whole building shook. "We have cracks in our walls."

The temblor was felt across eastern Nevada, Utah and as far away as Southern California. Elko County Undersheriff Rocky Gonzalez said there were unconfirmed reports of some damage to buildings.

biggrin rose Why Politicis and Religion? I'd have to say this would fit under the category of world politics and phrophecy (religion). The way governments have known this type of thing is going to come down and affect the lives of many. After years of research and discovery they have not acted or issued plans, warnings etc. Those who believe in the written word also might find this interesting.

hmmm Hmm ...

Well because it is a type of science topic as well - I guess it can stay in P&R

( we try to be open to science/medical- more serious threads here too - they get lost in GD )

Politics:Growing up in California in the 50's and 60's I experienced several small quakes, constantly advised by media to be aware of "The Big One". My mother moved back to Minnesota when I was 18. If there was a quake in China she would call me in CA to see if all was well. smile
When a train loaded with bombs on their way to a dumping grounds exploded near my apartment, the entire city was evacuated, we drove a VW van around picking people up, only to be told to return to our small town of Roseville and stay for three days in the National Guard Armory. The orchards were totally scorched for acres, homes destroyed, children lost hearing-It was a September 11 for the people of our community.
Not one call from my mom.
I figured it was because the phone lines were down. When the Red Cross asked permission to enter my tent and video tape for their records I gave it. Later that week I called mom to let her know we were okay, through the Red Cross. She had no knowledge of the event.
Nor did anyone.
The reason this is in Politics and Religion is really obvious to me.
A year later,1974, I was watching an NBC "WhitePaper" news special and there I was being interviewed in the Red Cross tent city. Aparently trains exploding and leveling country towns were non-events that were hidden from America.

Religion:I pray outside, barefoot and alone.

Some quakes do come from volcanic activity, because of the molten lava moving beneath the ground. But some quakes do come from the moving of the plate thingies underground.
Btw, since I haven't watched the news lately, I was wondering which volcanoes were erupting that you were speaking of. Is in Nevada? Or is that Mt. St. Helens you speaking of?
