If want "Pineapple", I can order "Pineapple"…

If you’re still boycotting Dominoes Pizza because of their former apartheid connections then please continue. If you’ve stopped or never did, I ask that you please do. Anyone who has seen their bigoted commercials with the quote above knows what I’m speaking of, plus the pizza tastes like rubber.

I saw a dominoes pizza commercial that depicted African-Americans negatively.

Many people boycotted Dominoes because they had monetary ties with South Africa during apartheid.

I’m asking that we still continue to boycott Dominoes..

Unless the actor in that commercial was accessing his inner steppin fetchit; some director told him to open the door wide eyed and spastic. This isn’t the worst depiction of blithering Negro idiocy I’ve seen in a commercial, but it seems worse based on the sordid history of Dominoes.

Oh dear... Please...

Its people like you that force this world to become so politically correct that it strangles itself with its own rules and regulations. Compensation for this, ban that, report this, complain about that... Now I cant even buy a packet of disposable razors without a patronising warning: "WARNING! - DO NOT EAT", followed by instructions of what to do if I do happen to eat them "Consult a doctor immediately". Sheesh...

I dont know what country you are in, but I am sure they have a massive Television watchdog that practically wrote the "Politically Correct hand book for the new millenium". I am sure that any racial conotations would have been picked up by them...

Political Correctness has to do primarily with language; some overstate PC as a tool of a vast leftist conspiracy only because it’s made them uncomfortable saying bigoted things in public, or at a place where it might affect their ability to earn income. I don’t need dominoes to cater to my sensibilities, nor a watchgroup to tell me what’s offensive (that would be like boycotting a company just because someone on a message board told you to.) If you don’t find the commercial or their prior business practices distasteful, than by all means….try to enjoy the "pizza".

To be fair, they also have a stupid white couple doing the exact same shtick in a separate commercial ("If I want pepperoni, I can order pepperoni"), except it shows them doing carry out in the store.....

They look like idiots, too.

Dominoes sucks on multiple levels, I agree.

Political correctness is more than just the policing of language. It is political correctness which causes schools to cancel the nativity play (in a Christian country) for fear of offending other religions for example.

The rational behind political correctness is to prevent people being offended. To compel everyone to avoid using words or behaviour that may upset someone else. However, the problem with it is the fact that it is impossible to avoid offending everyone all of the time. People who champion political correctness try to seek out ways of implementing their rational as law.

The problem with this is there is an unnecessary build up of censorship within society which can then turn into silent resentment. If political correctness was allowed to grow unchecked, then what would happen is society would move into a more suppressed state unable to voice it’s opinions.

Luckily, most western societies (where political correctness is becoming a serious problem) have built in mechanisms which try to protect us – the freedom of expression.

The anger arises when we feel our freedoms of expression are being trampled on by the political correctness squad.

So everytime someone moans about an advert on TV or complains about the religious bias of a particular documentary, they are slowly eroding our freedom of expression because it only takes a handful of complaints (in a society of millions) to impose censorship of what is shown on TV.

That is why threads like this really get up my nose, because like lilgish implied – we can change channels and watch something that does not offend us if we choose.

What we already have in place are watchdogs which independently monitor what is shown on our screens, and they are in place to prevent indecency being shown inappropriately (you don’t want hard core porn shown straight after the 6 o’clock news whilst eating supper with your kids). They are guided by societies values but they cannot take in every single point of view. But the more people that whine and whinge about every single aspect of what they hear or see then these watchdogs are going to become ever more suppressive and, before you know it, government will control what we watch by virtue of the laws it has had to impose to protect offending anyone at all.

I doubt very much that the advert in question here is in anyway racist because racism, despite being a large problem in society still, is by and large unacceptable and for blatant racism to find its way through to mainstream TV in the form of an advert is very unlikely indeed. Not to mention the fact that it would be extremely bad business sense for Dominoes to embark on a racist campaign in the first place.

If you don’t like the advert, buy from Pizza Hut instead…

I think the reason that politicall correctness is stressed so often is because of how the majority in any country has taken advantage of, ridiculded and otherwise just mistreated the minorities. That being said, if people are going to talk shit, let them expose what trash they truly are and then do your damndest to boycott them or kick them out of office or whatever is appropraite for the situation. I think if someone in the work place is making derogatory racial comments, shouldn't they go? If it were sexual, they would be out of there. If they piss off the boss, they're gone!

I also like the fact that we do have people in place to prevent us from seeing T&A but when it comes to ridcluing people's cultures, race, etc....well, we really have our priorities in chckeck, don't we?

See I like Domino but just rarely get pizza and whenever I'm with people and they want pizza, Dominoes for some reason is really hated or just not thought of. Domonio actually orginated here in Ann Arbor but there are many alternatives.
