IMO it has a lot of different levels of understanding and I pick-up something different every time I watch it. Although I never saw the original so... Now I'm not sure that these movies were even from the 90's Generally speaking, you aren’t learning much when your lips are moving.

I mean, come on - the pod race was very good and the light saber duel with Darth Maul was awesome! [This message was edited Wed Dec 17 8:41:47 PST 2003 by scififilmnerd] I am no Sci Fi Buff ...but...what the...Phantom Menace realy sucked big time...and Clones was even worse... La Femme Nikita - Luc Besson's original Although I personally prefer... But that has no relation to Nikita. At all! None whatsoever. Uh-uh! That show is SO bad. I hadda stop watching before the end of the first episode. It was more like a playboy show than anything else. Lotsa titties and God forbid we should see a man. 1 film I really enjoyed was Baz Lurhmann's Strictly Ballroom from 1993. Its funny, energetic and charming. I liked that guy with the white hair who was pissed all the time and danced with Tina Sparkle. He looked very much like the wrestler Rick Flair.

Ok, so after all these posts we still have only three non-american movies mentioned (La Femme Nikita, Pitch Black and Strictly Ballroom). Does that mean that nobody ever sees non-american movies or that you don´t like them?

Well, I thought Doberman was pretty cool. I recently saw Takishi Miike's Audition a few weeks ago which was really disturbing, quite an amazing piece of cinema. I would have also said Amores Perros but that was made in 2000 right? That was a great film.

Naah, it just means that european movies never has as high a budget as its american counterparts. That makes it harder for a director to do truly spectacular stuff, and so european movies are mostly dramas. But Hardware - which is British, by the way - turned out rather spectacular despite a visibly low budget. Nikita is fairly low-budget. You gotta give props to the directors in question for turning out a product that looks a LOT more expensive than it was. Pitch Black is American. Isn't it?
