Question about editing music

Is there a app that lets you edit music files so that I can make some of my favorite songs acapella versions? Very interested in hearing some vocals that I believe are buried in the music.

Maybe you can use Midi or Protools? I took that class(Computer Music)when I was 20 something years old. Fun class. The professor, Yarmolinsky is also the guitar teacher(Cancerian). He is a clasical composer, he teaches several courses at the college he works for. The piano teacher/chorus conductor/Intro to music teacher is a Sagittarius. He also composes music/Opera.

The opposite (removing vocals) is easier to do, but even that can be very hit and miss depending on the track.

The Audacity manual says it is possible to isolate the vocals, but you need an instrumental version of the track as well - it's going to need to be identical in every way except with the vocal removed (i.e. a karaoke version).

Even then, success is not guaranteed - I've only tried this a few times, but I've never got it to work.

The technique is explained here in the Audacity manual, if you scroll down to the "Using an instrumental track to isolate the vocals" section.

Alternatively, AudioSourceRE claims to be able to demix and reverse engineer any track. I've never used it so I don't know how accurate that claim might be. It's not a cheap piece of software either, so you'd need to be really committed to doing this to spend the money (and the time, of course).

If your only purpose is to hear vocals that are buried in the mix, then without the stems I would think isolating them to create an acapella version is going to be impossible. I doubt that even AudioSourceRE would be able to do that (but of course I don't know that for sure).

Having said all that, you should maybe give Audacity a go, as you might be able to do enough tweaking to at least make the buried vocals more audible. You should check out Audacity anyway if you're not already familiar with it - it's free, and it's an incredible piece of software.

Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.
