Superman is only my second favourite. Superman 2: The Richard Donner cut is my all time favourite superhero movie.

The Superman II Donner Cut is what today's comic movie fans THINK Justice League's Snyder cut is. Difference is, the final Superman II is a good enough film in its own right.

What about Nick Fury? His race was changed in the comic books, not just in the MCU. I think Doctor Strange was originally Asian in the comics too. Lois Lane was turned into a black woman in one issue of her comic book. On a related note, there was a white J.J. on an episode of Good Times.

Terrible oversight on my part too.

Supposedly Samuel L Jackson allowed Marvel to use his likeness for Nick Fury in the comics in exchange for being cast as that character if a movie featuring Nick Fury were to ever be made. It sounds like an excellent deal in retrospect.

Reeve was the definitive Superman, but for me, "Man of Steel" is the definitive Superman movie. Great villains, great battle scenes, Supes whipping ass for a change and no corny cringe-worthy scenes like in the Donner films. The Battle of Smallville is one of my time favorite live action superhero fights.

I can't believe folks actually liked that snoozefest 'Superman Returns'...I was nodding off waiting for something exciting to happen. Can they give us a bad guy other than the same ol' Lex Luthor? How about Brainiac, Mongol, Darkseid, Parasite, Metallo or Bizarro?

Being somewhat of a comic book nerd, I'm totally against changing the nationality / gender of the iconic characters. Leave them the way they were written....no need to fuck up the source material. No black Superman or white Blade for me.

Yup, both Emma and I feel the first 5 years should have been Smallville and the last 5 years should have been Metropolis. It dragged because Clark should have been Superman by then and not the Blur.

Yeah, my son and I felt the same way... After Clark moved to Metropolis the show stagnated and quickly went nowhere. I got impatient when promising storylines hit dead ends and lost interest when the characters stopped developing. But the show was good while Supes lived in Smallville. BTW we really enjoyed Chris Reeves' cameo on the series.

Yeah they had a lot of actors associated with the Superman movies and Lois Lane appear on Smallville on it. The Flash series does the same.

Come to think of it the CW crossover ruined Smallville. They made Clark give up his powers, lame, and that world in which Smallville took place was destroyed. Worse of all now the crappy Superman on Supergirl is the official Superman . With the exception of the Flash I refuse to watch all the other DC shows on the CW. I am watching Stargirl right now and it's not bad because they are just focusing on her being a super hero. Once the show starts getting preachy and PC I will tune out.

To be honest, I don't remember any reaction, good or bad, to Clooney's casting because I would have been too young to pay attention to such things so I can only judge it in hindsight. I can see people thinking he might do well as Bruce Wayne but did anyone really expect him to be a good Batman? Especially knowing that Joel Schumacher was directing again after Batman Forever? They could have had Michael Keaton return and it would still have been a disaster with that idiot directing.

Well that's all before the internet. Yeah there was talk good and bad about George Clooney. Yes George Clooney fans liked the pick and hard core comic book fans not so much.

I remember a lot of bad articles from then about the casting of Clooney and Swarzenegger loong before the movie came out. Maybe in the US they thought he would be fine tho.
After Batman Forever these casting choices were considered even worse than Kilmer, Carrey and Jones (at last according to Dutch movie reviewers) and they were right.

I understand the mistake perfectly. Batman Forever had two rogues in name only but both played a variantion of the Joker.

I was completely underwhelmed by Joaquin Phoenix in JOKER.



The premise was cool, but it was too long, too cliche, and too melodramatic.

I thought Phoenix gave a brillianlty nuanced performance. Movie was the prefect mix of a social commentary keeping within the boundaries of the comic book world. It was a stressful and uncomfortable watch, but I admired JOKER a great deal.

I am looking forward to Pattinson's Batman, I think he has turned a corner in his acting career and I am curious to see what he will do with this iconic character.
