March Madness Thread

Here we go - it's MARCH MADNESS! Will Zion Williamson dominate the tournament and bring another title to Duke? Was Tennessee a fluke or can they really win it all? Is this University of Houston team as good as the legendary Phi Slamma Jamma teams? Does John Calipari once again break out the best wardrobe or will an upstart coach from a tiny college best Cal in sartorial splendor?

And most importantly - am I going to post the Marshall Henderson GIF to start us off? Of course I am!

marshall_hendersonauburn.gif?w=610&h=343&crop=1

BEHOLD ALL THE GREATNESS YOU JUST SAW:

1. Marshall Henderson himself. Just look at that! He's SUPPOSED to be flaunting the Ole Miss logo on his jersey, but it's more of a Look-At-My-Abs kind of move. Maybe he's "flapping" his jersey as his own kind of "War Eagle" bird move?

2. The old man in the orange sweater who stands up. I think he's saying "Come at me, bro!" but I'm not sure. I don't know who he is but judging by his seat location, he's one of Auburn's top athletic supporters

3. The security guard next to Orange Sweater Man. He's laughing his ass off! I love that guy, especially since he makes NO move whatsoever to stop Henderson, or protect him

4. Speaking of laughing guys, how about the bearded announcer in the blue vest? Awesome! I think he might be an Ole Miss announcer, since his vest is the same color as Henderson's jersey but then again, Auburn also uses blue. At any rate, his beard is just great

5. His announcing buddy in the white sweater is not quite as thrilled, with an "I've seen this before" kind of look on his face. Which probably means those guys ARE Ole Miss announcers, because this kind of stuff was common with Henderson

6. OK, let's get to the Auburn students! First off, moving left-to-right, we have Double-Bird Guy. He enters a second into the GIF, and literally does move left-to-right. He cuts in front of Get The F*** Outta Here With That Bulls*** Guy, who really needed to step his game up

7. Behind Double Bird Guy is ANOTHER Double Bird Guy. He's got an orange-and-white striped shirt, and a bad haircut. His double bird game is not as strong as that of the guy in front of him

8. I think my FAVORITE guy is "Come At Me Bro!" Guy. He's the guy in the white hat, waving at Henderson to come and get some. And then he hides behind Single Bird Guy. Not representing Auburn's manliness very well, bro!

9. Single Bird Guy (unwittingly) becomes a human shield for Come At Me Bro Guy. At least he didn't try to hide behind Old Man in Orange Sweater

10. The we have Short Dude Who Gets Hit By A Poster. He shrugs it off like a playa, then bends down to pick it up. Most polite guy on The Plains!

11. Last but not least on the front row, we have Ding Dang Gosh Darn It Guy. I call him Ding Dang Gosh Darn It Guy because even though he gets off a single bird, the way he removes his hat to accentuate his yelling is just so cornpone. His friends probably call him Farmer Ted

12. Remember the sign that hit Short Dude Who Gets Hit By A Poster? We don't know who threw it, but the reaction of the two girls behind our frat bros is great! First, we have the girl in the blue print top, who is absolutely flabbergasted and disgusted that an Auburn War Eagle Tiger fan would throw a poster. Her friend to the right in the orange shirt is just scared. If any of the frat bros had tried to protect her, I bet she would have married him right there on the spot.

BONUS!

Here's the actual game footage, just so you can get the whole flavor of this bit of magic:

Zion Williamson of Duke is incredible. That steal/behind-theback-dribble/slip/recovery/layup was one of the best plays I've seen.

Ja Morant of Murray State is the real deal, too. I'm going to really enjoy watching them play Auburn today.

Dang, the Dukies came thisclose to losing it! If Williamson hadn't clanged that free throw so badly, UCF gets the rebound and wins the game. Coach K's remarks afterwards were really touching.

HOW 'BOUT THOSE HOUSTON COUGARS! The city of Houston is on fire in basketball. First we have James Harden's MVP season, and now the Houston Cougars' return to glory. Good time to be a baller in H-Town!

Let me rag on THE Ohio State University for a paragraph or two. What the h&^* is up with the "THE" in their name? What OTHER state university is there in Ohio? Who else is claiming that they, and not Ohio State, are Ohio's state university? No one! No one ever has, either; at least, not in my 50+ years of following sports. "THE Ohio State University" is the worst, dumbest, most ridiculous and insecure slogan I've ever heard. But check this out:

I asked a buddy who'd went there why the "THE" and he didn't know. That's how proud they are of the "THE" - they don't even tell their students why it's there. Anyway, one time my buddy got a parking ticket. He wrote a check to pay for it and made it out to "Ohio State University". The university would not accept it until he added the "THE". LMFAO!

Back to the tournament. How about the SEC? Four teams in the Sweet Sixteen. Not bad for a "football" conference! Although, both LSU and Tennessee had to go to the wire to win.

I guess the only Cinderella team left is Oregon. Otherwise, it's all the top 4 seeds (with the exception of Auburn, who is a 5 seed but that's close enough for rock and roll). Here are the games for this weekend Go Coogs! Go SEC!

UCF choked that game away....you HAVE to get that rebound off the missed FT. The missed dunk off the alley-oop killed them too.

Yeah, they get the blame for the missed dunk. But I have to cut them some slack on the rebound. The low post UCF players did have the Duke players mostly blocked out but the shot was so bad that the rebound went over their heads. Not much they could have done about that.

The Dukies run of luck finally expired. Sparty put the wazoo to the Dukies. If you need me to translate that, let me know.

The beasts of this tournament right now looks to be Texas Tech. Man, they are playing a stifling brand of defense. Just ask Gonzaga!

PRO TIP TO FANS IN MINNEAPOLIS: Tickets for the championship game will be plentiful and cheap. Literally thousands of fans from the two teams who lose on Saturday will want to head home, but not before they dump their tickets. If you wait until Monday afternoon to scoop some up, I'll be surprised if you pay more than face value.

Back to the tournament. Congratulations to the Houston Cougars. Great run! I thought their goose was cooked when they fell behind by 13 in the second half, but they actually came back and even had a short two-point lead. The block by Washington was the game decider.

It's tough to watch Auburn in the Final Four, knowing that we (Ole Miss) beat their watusis twice in the regular season. I guess by the transitive power, I should root for Auburn so I can say Ole Miss is the Peoples' Champion. But I'll root for them anyway, because SEC.

So, I'm rooting for Auburn but I think Texas Tech is the team to beat.

Congratulations to Virginia. That was an EPIC game!

I was rooting for Texas Tech and they had their chance to win it. And it looked like they were going to run away with it in OT but the Cavaliers stood the test and prevailed.

This was a very enjoyable NCAA tournament, even if Ole Miss layed an egg in Round 1. Oh well, we were picked for last in the SEC so I guess we over-achieved just a little bit. Can't wait for next year!

Again, congratulations to Virginia. Well done!

Wild & crazy tournament, but it sucks that the cats doing the yeoman work don't get a slice of the profits from a tournament that generates $1billion in revenue...sickening. And don't get me started on what some of these coaches make. Chris Beard is going to make a killing, either from Tech or another school. What the NCAA should do is set up a fund for the basketball/football players upon graduation. And they should be allowed to make money off merchandising and autographs.

Chris Mullin is resigning from St. John's....I'm hearing names like Bobby Hurley, Tim Cluess & Rick Pitino to replace him.
