Danvers had her own short-lived series as 'Ms. Marvel', then she became Binary, then Captain Marvel. As Binary, Danvers had 'Class 100' level strength (Hulk, Thor). Maybe that'll be her level in the film.

It's worth noting that Carol's good friend in the movie is Maria Rambeau, Monica's mother.

Cute pussy brings a man to his knees. I knew that. I don't know Captain Marvel. When I would hear the name I thought it was a man. Looking forward to this because she's totally new to me.

The DC superhero, Shazam, used to be called Captain Marvel. You might be thinking of him. Although, I think there was a male Captain Marvel in the Marvel comics too. So you might be thinking of him too. It's all very confusing and it's this kind of thing that's the reason I don't read comic books.

The Captain Marvel-Shazam comics of the 1940s published by Fawcett was outselling Superman at the time so DC comics successfully sued them claiming the character was a copy of Superman. After not being published for several years and the character being abandoned, Marvel Comics then trademarked the name for their own creations. It's a coincidence that the original Captain Marvel and new Captain Marvel will both make their feature film debuts this year within a month of each other.

In this universe my favorite would be Iron Man? He's like Batman?

I love how the Endgame trailer start with Tony floating out in space and I have no idea what could happen to him. None.

I don't think Tony Stark is alone on that spaceship. Infinity War ended with both him and Nebula together so I'm sure she's on the ship with him.

I forgot about her. But I don't know what her powers are, or is she dead weight. Just wondering. smile

What?

Have you seen the Guardians of the Galaxy movies? She doesn't have any special powers other than great hand to hand combat skills.

And she needs food. She was trying to eat that piece of fruit that wasn't ripe. She could kill and eat Tony, and recycle her urine, but the air is running out.

What?

I only know the character through X-Men (its where Rogue got her power of flight and strength from, absorbing them from Carol Danvers).

The trailers haven't grabbed me. Brie Larson looks bored, and the characters powers seem too similar to characters that already exist in the MCU. Dr Strange and Ant-Man offered something a bit different, whereas Captain Marvel seems like an overpowered mash-up of Hulk, Cap America and Thor, arriving conveniently enough when the MCU needs someone powerful to give Thanos a kicking.

Remove the early 90s nostalgia from this film, I'm hoping there's still going to be a decent story.

Yeah she kinda does. Also looks like Samuel L Jackson has a big part in the movie, and that's not a good thing. I don't see Nick Fury I see only Samuel L Jackson

giphy.gif

Haha to me that's a good thing. I agree CaptMarvel seems like a bore. No different than widow, wasp, nebula, gamora so basically most women in Marvel universe. Cold, distant, reserved. For a movie based on COMIC series, I never once laughed at a marvel female character's line.

.

The 80s retro theme is very interesting too, with a lot of potential for some in-house Marvel clowning as some of the 80s Marvel offerings were hilariously laughable, especially their film/TV of that era (Ferrigno Hulk, '89 Punisher, Spider-Man '77 live action come to mind). I don't see how any of the characters of the modern MCU could play more than a supporing role in Captain Marvel. Plus it might show how Sam/Nick Fury lost the eye.

See it? I own it on video! Really really bad. But I've watched it numerous times. Which probably says a lot about me.

I hadn't even thought about any links to 90s Marvel movies but it would be a great opportunity for them to acknowledge Blade. If they were planning on bringing that character into the MCU they could mention a vampire attack or something on the news.

The new trailer looks pretty awesome, smackin' down old ladies and what not. Interesting that Skrulls are the baddies, I wonder if this is how they will undo a lot of the last few years. And they're historically Fantastic Four "bad guys".

The new Wonder Woman is set in the 80s! Thats where I got mixed up, it seems. Interesting that both of the female-led superhero movies will be retro-themed.

Wonder Woman still hasn't had a modern set solo movie. Perhaps Wonder Woman 3 will be the first?

Three minor characters have also gone by the name. Genis-Vell and Phyla-Vell, children of the first Captain Marvel, and Noh-Varr, who used the title when he was in the Dark Avengers. All were very short-lived tenures though.

Too many people are invested in the whole storyline in the MCU to NOT see it. So, even if they go out of curiousity for how it sets up Endgame, it will still do well. It may not do Black Panther or IW numbers but it will still make hundreds of millions of dollars.

-

I get the feeling that word-of-mouth is what's going to ultimately sell this movie or kill it early on. I'm sure they'll be something to hold onto if you're waiting for Endgame. The Russo Bros know their audience.

I think you’re right. I’m seeing it regardless. Who knows? It may actually be good. I’ll end up seeing it even if the reviews are bad. Which I doubt. Marvel movies are not great cinema, but they are usually charming and fun.
