They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said "no, no, no" Yes, I've been black, but when I come back, you'll know, know, know I ain't got the time and if my daddy thinks I'm fine He's tried to make me go to rehab, but I won't go, go, go I find it fascinating how some forms of self destruction are embraced and applauded as personal choice, almost worshipped. While others are rejected dressed up as concern for individual health. People are funny.

Thank you. People who say that don't give two flying fucks about an overweight person's health. They just don't want to have to be forced to look at them.

I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

No anger just observation. We all are on the same planet, seeing the same stuff from different vantage points. Some self destructive behavior can be glamorized and even praised to the highest level. While other behavior is criticized and stigmatized. Is that because people are truly concerned about others health or is it more primal?

You are right, it is a self-destructive behaviour. I think as well that for both obesity and anorexia there needs to be mental help, rather than just diet plans or exercise, which doesn't get to the root cause. However, I think shops, manufacturers and government enable the ability to become obese in a way that they don't do with other addictions. They then offload that responsibility to the person that eats it. IMO the responsibility needs to change, if that happened then those that were just greedy (like me) would naturally lose some pounds and those that had real problems could be given proper help.

Piers Morgan is an absolute sh*t stain of a human being ... but I have to agree with him there.

I don't. I think that there are often mental issues behind obesity and that, certainly in the UK, there is no provision to deal with those issues unless you are in very real trouble. I think mocking the magazine and the girl encourages fat-haters, at a time when it's easier than ever to get your hands on fat over fresh food. IMO we need to make fresh food available cheap (possibly even free at some places) and discourage the tsunami of available shit that is packaged nicely but is nothing but fat and sugar in disguise. Blaming the person is not the way to go, making change from the top is if we really want results.

There was no mocking in PM's comment at all (unusual for him I know) ... he simply said its 'dangerous and misguided' to present someone of this size as normal and healthy, just as dangerous as pushing size zero models.

I think for some there are mental health issues behind over eating ... support for any kind of mental health issue in the UK is seriously lacking, and that needs to change. There are others though where its simply laziness and/or greediness; you could call it blame, or you could call it self-responsibility.

oh hey i wasn't necessarily referring to you, more to the people who weigh in simply to judge other's posts without ever actually responding to the topic itself.

First, body positivity so that people no longer hate their body, and feel less ashamed, and go to the gym?

And that is shared here....OK

Body positivity to enjoy the process of change and enjoy fitness without judgement? Again, I guess not.

Body positivity - A female olympic speed skater's body is used as the basis for plus sized mannequins....she's unhealthy though.....

Nice...seems your disgust hides behind the guise of health....just say it, you don't like fat bodies,it's OK.

Body Positivity....shame bodies that are living the "fit has no size" life. So while they train for athletic events, compete, and instruct, the size-ism is still too strong in some of you.

Thin bodies are not judged as harshly as overweight ones. You feel that since it's visible, you already know someone's state of health. What if the body you see at 280 was once 350? But, that is still a drian on society.

Just come out and say it's not for you.

No need to make this argument black and white. If you read the posts here closely you'd know that my intention for this tread wasn't about what's more appealing, what's more beautiful -fat or skinny.
Forget the facts and figures I mentioned about obesity in this nation, if you've ever traveled any other country you'd know - Americans are the heaviest. Being overweight is part of our culture and apparently the new norm. We eat more than we need. Low-income families don't know how to prep healthy meals with lower budget and as a result now the adult obesity rates at 40% in this country and it keeps growing. It's a national crisis, especially in a country with such unstable medicare system. And you still want to focus on coddling people's sentiment by pushing the idea of "overweigh/fat=beautiful". Who are you helping, really? (not to mention beauty is such a subejctive matter)
"you're fine the way you are. All bodies are beautiful". It's easier to say that. Makes you look like the nice guy for now. But are you gonna be the one to pay for their medical bills when these people truly believe in that idea and decide to let themselves go? Didn't think so.
Though the original intentions for this movement were coming from a good place, some of the actual campaigns come off quite questionable. I wonder if these people actually even give a damn about the ever rising obesity rates. Or even realize how many people in this country don't see eating after feeling full as an alarming habit.

But hey it's all about me.

Seriously though, I'm just expressing what I've observed even in these parts. The topic is body positivity yet only the problems of the obese are being talked about. Is that truly what body positivity means giving obese a free pass to be even more obese? I had assumed it was just people loving and respecting themselves where they are at this very moment regardless of their size and encouraging more people to do so. Fake it til you make it kind of thing. Leads to better overall health I would think.
