Red Dead Redemption 2

I am super excited about this... I have only seen 2 of the first trailers... but I saw it is getting amazing reviews! (Metacritic gives it a 97/98 (PS4/XBOXONE).

I know very little or what to expect... (I did play Red Dead Redemption, I loved it, and 7 GTA 3D games)

I did flake out and got the $80 version... some perks but I am not sure it is $20 worth... and I do not even have the PS Gold...or whatever....

But in about 22 hours I should be jumping in... (got the PS4 updated and controller charged!)

My fiancé queued up at midnight last night to get this for me. I don't know when I'll actually have time to play it though. I'm still working on Spider-Man. My brother sent me a link to a YouTube video showing what the game will look like on my xbox one X and how it differs from the other versions. I have to say, it's a great advertisement for the Xbox One X and 4k TVs. Plus, it's a game about cowboys so that's enough for me.

Spiderman is on my list and maybe Hitman 2 (but I maybe get Hitman and finish it first?)

My fiancé used to play the old Hitman games on the PS2 and Xbox 360. Despite that, he's never been much into videogames. Hitman, GTA Vice City and one or two sports games are pretty much the only thing he plays. Or really ever played. So I don't know how much weight his opinion holds but like I said, he's always been a Hitman fan. And he rates the last Hitman game as his favourite game of all time. I tried to play it and I kept setting off alarms left right and centre and getting caught in the act. Too difficult for me but I'd guess if you like the old games you'd probably enjoy Hitman.

Yeah, each area of Hitman (the one for XBOX One and PS4) was tricky to learn how to move around. But they had training missions that helped. The first one is now about $40 with the new one coming out in a few weeks.

The last game I played was Dragon Quest XI.... that was a great game...if you like old JRPGs.

Well I got it... it says it takes an hour to load and 3 hours to download what I assume is online content? I do not even have the online thing from PSN!

I saw a load of low ratings some were that they could not download it... LOL and some were mad that it was not on PC... in other words... they had nothing to do with the game.

It didn't take that long for it to install for me. It took about an hour for it to install both discs and then the update took about 3 minutes to download. I do have pretty fast Internet though and the Xbox is faster than the non Pro version of the ps4 anyway so that could be a factor.

I've only played it for about an hour so far though, had to collect my daughter from school, make her dinner etc, but I'm very impressed with what I've seen so far. I won't go into any specifics because these things are best when you experience them for yourself but I will say this: that snow looks incredible. I could actually feel the cold when I was playing it. And the attention to detail elsewhere is unbelievable.

The first part is a little slow and linear but after that bit it opens up... and is a bit too open!

It kind of reminds me of Breath of the Wild a bit. There's stuff you can do to advance the main plot but there's just as much fun to be had exploring the world in your own time. In fact, there's more fun to be had exploring the world.

I liked the first bit up in the mountains. It kind of reminds me of the Hateful Eight. The only thing missing was Kurt Russell's giant 'tache.

The only downside to the game so far for me are the controls. Maybe it's me but the quickdraw parts just seem overly complex. And using the left trigger to interact with people sometimes sees me pulling out my gun because it's the same button to aim. I also skinned a deer but didn't have enough room to carry the skin so I had to stow it on my horse. After travelling for ages to a town to sell the pelt, I couldn't take the pelt from the horse. The only option I had was to remove it from my inventory completely. So I tried that, seeing as I had no other option, and it just disappeared entirely. So the 5 minutes I spent hunting, not to mention the 10 minute ride to town, was just a waste of time. These are just small complaints though. Overall, I'm really enjoying it so far.

There is a workaround to that problem. Kill and skin your horse, sell it’s hide and then steal another horse!

I can't tell if your serious or not. But I won't chance it. I've built up a nice bond with my current horse. I even named him and everything.

I believe you can still sell them... they will take them off when you sell them...

Yeah, I figured that out. And sometimes I can remove the pelt from the horse but other times it tells me that the horse's inventory is empty despite me being able to actually see the pelt draped over it's back.

Here's a little tip that you probably already know but I only found out today and it might help someone who might read this. If you're out and about and get separated from your horse for whatever reason, instead of getting on a different horse and riding all the way back to wherever your own horse is, just go to the nearest stable and you can have your horse delivered there straight away. I just wish I'd have known before I had to walk all the way from Rhodes to Valentine. At least my stamina got upgraded a lot though...

Great game so far (I've just got out the snowy bit and set up at the Horseshoe camp place) ... but the controls I'm struggling with a little. I wish we had an 'old school' instruction manual with all the controls set out so that its easy to reference. There's so much you can do in the game, remembering the correct button presses is gonna be tough ... its gonna be a while before all of it is intuitive.

Biggest thing I'm missing is inverting the X axis for left/right turns. I've inverted the Y axis as I do on all games I play, but I wanted to try inverting the X to see if that feels better ... 'cos at the moment left/right turns don't feel quite right.

I could never play with inverted X/Y axis. Lol.

I'm not sure it the controls are something you can get used to. My Xbox tells me I've racked up about 15 hours so far and I'm still really confused. It doesn't help that the game sometimes does what it wants and just walking around can be a chore because of how slow he moves. I want to play as Clint Eastwood of the 60s. Not Clint Eastwood IN his 60s.

Yeah I heard somewhere that if you only complete the main story that the game is around 60 hours. But there's just too much to explore for me, plus I already got 300 bounty to pay tho, I got to make money first. lol

I don't how many hours I'm into the game tho, where do you find that out?

The Xbox tracks your playtime for every game. You can check it in the "game hub" section on the Xbox home screen. If you have it on the PlayStation, you can't check it.

How did you get a bounty of 300 on your head? You must have been really bad. I accidentally shot someone thanks to the awkward controls but I only had a 20 dollar bounty on me.

My bounty wasn't too high either but then I talked to some guy who wanted Money from people, greeted him normally, all of a sudden Arthur kind of insults him. The runs away, I can't even move with Arthur, then there's people Shooting at me abd then the sherrif Shot me too and when I finally was able to move, I Shot at them 'cause I wouldn't had a Chance to get away, 'caus I was almost dead.

I only realized that it was the sherrif when the Bounty got extremly high tho.

I was really pissed, cause they also almost killed my horse. And confused 'cause I really didn't do anything. I Tested if it probably was an error in the Game, so I walked up to the Guy again, greeted him, Arthur did the same, guy's running away, I can't move again but this time No one attacked me tho....it was weird

There does seem to be a lot of little glitches. I've already listed a few I've seen in some of my earlier posts on this thread. I had one yesterday where I couldn't get on my horse. Every time I got on, Arthur just got off again automatically. I had to reload the game to get it working properly again.

These are all little annoyances but the one thing that really irritates me is the Wanted system. I shoot some guy in the middle of nowhere with nobody else around and it says that my crime had been reported to the law and a bounty was put on my head. How? There was nobody around except for me and the guy I killed. Not only that, but some outlaws tried to kill me so I killed them in retaliation. Then I get a 90 dollar bounty on my head for defending myself. Another time a man crashed his horse into mine. We both fell off but he died. I end up with a bounty on my head for murder. MURDER!?! He crashed into me!

I'm up to Chapter 6. I don't know how many chapters there are but I was trying to finish it before the end of my daughter's mid term break. I've got 45 hours in so far (the joys of not working) and the game tells me I'm 66% through the story. If that's accurate then I've still got about 22 and a half hours to go, give or take.

I've got 45 hours in so far (the joys of not working) and the game tells me I'm 66% through the story. If that's accurate then I've still got about 22 and a half hours to go, give or take.

wow... I have a LONG way to go...I was trying to do some side stuff... I need to get going!

The side stuff is the best thing about the game in my opinion so don't ignore it. And some side missions are time sensitive, meaning that if you don't do them when they appear, you can't do them later.

So, this made over 700 million in the first three days? What are the production costs for a game like this? I guess the top games are absolutely crushing the movie industry these days.

Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?
