Ozark - Even though it seems like a bit of a knockoff from Breaking Bad*, there is some really good acting and enough turns to make it very bingeable! I have always been a Laura Linney fan and she doesn't disappoint here. Jason Bateman is really good here too. I was thinking that I would like season 1 better than season 2, but some changes midway in season 2 increased my interest again.

Both seasons: 8.5 of 10

*I almost submitted this with it being Breaking Bread rather than Breaking Bad. Now that would have been quite a different series. Damn auto-correct lol !

I watched the season/series premiere of "Magnum, P.I." last night. All I can say is

HOLY MOTHER OF ALL THAT IS MAGNUM P.I.!

Now, that's not a reflection the actual show. It was OK. I'm still not sold on the Magnum guy, nor am I sold on a female Higgins. Clearly Magnum and Higgins are going to boink and that's going to ruin the show. But no, the big news was the title of the first episode. It was:

"I Saw The Sun Rise".

I am STILL getting goose bumps from that. Why, you ask? Let me tell you!

IMHO "Magnum, P.I." was one of the greatest shows ever made. I loved it. The very best episode ever was a two-parter called "Did You See The Sun Rise?" The final scene was the greatest scene I have ever witnessed on any TV show, ever.

The plot is that an evil Russian dude named Ivan shows up. Ivan had been the Russian "advisor" to the North Vietnamese prison that held Magnum, TC and Rick. He was a vicious, sadistic dude. Unbeknownst to the guys, Ivan programmed TC to be a killer whenever he chewed this special gum that Ivan had.

Ivan shows up in Hawaii and gets TC to chew the special gum. He's going to use TC to kill Ronald Reagan or some world leader. Magnum stops the plot and the final scene is a confrontation between the aplomb Ivan and a pissed-off Magnum. Here it is, in all its glory:

So, to name the first episode of the remake "I Saw The Sun Rise"?

For a "Magnum P.I." fan, you absolutely could not have gotten cooler than that.

I watched the first 3, maybe 4 or 5 episodes, and I didn’t like it. I couldn’t find anyone to like. They were all bad. Zero.
What?

I watched Episode 2 of "Magnum, P.I." last night.

WOW!

It had this guy!

IT HAD CARL FREAKING WEATHERS!

And it was a GREAT episode! This series is NAILING IT!

The flash-back scene where Magnum was shaving and had only his mustache left? falloff x 2,106!

I will admit - I was 100% wrong to bad-mouth this series before it came out. This thing is so spot-on perfect. I can't wait for next week's episode.

AWESOME.

Rodeo you kill me - LOL. I watched the show too as I was a huge fan of the original and absolutely love Tom Selleck. The show was ok, I will continue to watch, but dude is no Tom Selleck, that's for damn sure.

I like him better after the second episode. He is winning me over, more and more. And if you close your eyes, he sounds almost exactly like Tom Selleck.

And the cars! They're swimming in Ferraris!

Luke Cage - Season 1

The Harlem setting and excellent soundtrack make this my favorite of all the Marvel-Netflix series so far. 4.5/5

The Tunnel - Season 2: Sabotage

I rewatched season two before starting the third and final season. The plot is convoluted, but I love the chemistry between the two main characters in this riveting British-French crime drama. 4/5

Currently watching Amercian Horror Story: Apocalypse (2018) and having a huge crush on Cody Fern who plays the mysterious Michael Langdon love (he is up there with my all-time fav eye candy JFK Jr)....is he beautiful or what? My all-time fav is AHS:Coven (2013), but this current season is giving it a run for its money.....plus it has Joan 'Dynasty' Collins in it worship martini queen

"Magnum, P.I." update (I almost feel like I'm live-blogging this series. I am soooo 2014!) - Episode 3 brings Luther Gillis. LUTHER FREAKING GILLIS! One of the best "Magnum" characters ever! And played by Ken Jeong! Although I will say - I much preferred the original, frumpy, rumpled, hard-drinking Luther Gillis. But Ken Jeong is an awesome actor with great comedic timing, so I'm looking forward to an episode that features him and doesn't just have a cameo from him. But I digress.

Ep. 3 (is that how you say it? "Ep. 3"? Let me know) is good but not great. Clearly the Higgins character is going to be more of a sidekick/possible romantic interest than a foil. And that's good. But this episode isn't quite as good as Eps. 1 and 2; however, those episodes set the bar so high that it would be impossible to believe it could continue at that quality.

Now I am wondering what other characters will come back? They already alluded to a woman that Magnum loved who betrayed everyone. Is that going to be his wife? I think the original Magnum had a wife; Vietnamese if I remember right. He thought she was dead but she wasn't, but then she died. I think. Anyway, expect a Woman From Magnum's Past to emerge soon.

How about Mac? The guy that got blown up urging Magnum to "see the sun rise"? There's gotta be a Mac character but that would beg the question - will this series re-do the "Did You See The Sun Rise?"story stream, or will they let Mac live?

How about Frank Sinatra? Yes - Ol' Blue Eyes really WAS a character on the original "Magnum, P. I."! He loved the show and asked to be on it. In fact, he was going to be on it again but there was a scheduling conflict. "Magnum, P.I." was Frank Sinatra's last acting role.

So who is the equivalent of Frank Sinatra today? Who could they bring out to play retired New York cop Michael Doheny?

I think it should be....

...retired New York cop John McLane!

brucewillis-diehard.jpg?quality=70&strip=all&w=720

How awesome would that be?!?!?!

So far, "Magnum, P.I." maintains its rating of AWESOME.

The other TV series I watched and will rate is the reboot of "Murphy Brown".

Sadly, this reboot is not nearly as good as the other reboot that I rebooted above. I like the actors but the political jokes just aren't making me laugh. Maybe it's because in the real world, there's nothing to laugh at in Washington, D.C. - only stuff to be terrified of.

"Murphy Brown" needs to ditch the political stuff - which, I know, is its entire reason for being - if it wants to continue. The actors are good enough to do it, though. For now, I must rate "Murphy Brown" as Better Than A Trump Lie, But Not By Much.
