Our ocean temperature where I live is the highest it's been in 100 years which is about when they started keeping track. Another heatwave coming thru this week. I'm not really understanding calling it a wave when it hasn't let up for what feels like months.

Living in New Zealand, we are experiencing winter and its been a cold and wet one. We don't get snow where I am but it rains pretty much 4 days out of every 5 and the average temperature is 12c (54f) and nothing over 17c(62) since May.

Our summer back at the start of the year, had some hot days, but you will see islands like New Zealand never really get weather extremes. Think Northern California year round where I am and Seattle/Portland for the South island.

But doesn´t New Zealand also have regions that are very hot and tropical all year long?

No, unless you count a place with an average summer high of 75f and winter high of 60f (Bay of Islands). We have some tropical colonies where its like that.

New Zealand is very much in the southern TEMPERATE zone and not the tropics. In fact we have snow capped mountains in the south, which remain snow covered all the time.
