In other words people have been bitching about Star Wars since 1983. And for the record NOBODY even comes close to Jar Jar Binks as being annoying.

And let's note this about Jar Jar. On the extras on The Phantom Menace DVD, GL is seen showing the storyboards, noting what is real, what is CGI, etc etc. He says, "Ja Ja is the key to all of this". The looks on people's faces are...cautious. Later at a screening, you can see producer Rick Collum sinking into his chair probably wondering "What the fuck is he thinking?" You can see the pending fan backlash across his face.

GL went thru the next few years, even to present, butthurt about the backlash against Jar Jar. While he had a lot to live up to, characters like Jar Jar vs the ruthlessness of Jabba - there's no battle to be had. You can compare any number of people against someone else, and find the prequels were, is, and always will be highly inferior. Fan cuts have done them some justice. One, The Phantom Edit cut out huge bits of Jar Jar, including the underwater chase, which kept the pace up. Another has overdubbed all the music & ambient FX and literally cut out most of Jar Jar's blabbering when not directly on cam, or otherwise replaced his dialog. It still doesn't make up for his literal presence.

I felt worst for the actor hired to play Jar Jar. It ruined his life in so many ways.

The funny thing about that, is that he is not recognizable in the movie, no one on the street would identify him as Jar Jar, and he doesnt have to sound like that. Couldn't he have gone on to be an actor completely removed from the prequels? Maybe even have adopted a stage name?

It might be an albatross around the neck that only appeared in his own mirror.

Well the backlash with Jar Jar reduced him to have a small role in Attack of the Clones

Because all black people do funny voices? (I kid.)

Kevin Clash did Elmo's voice for years. Others have taken over the voice since he left Sesame Street in 2014 after someone said they had a relationship with him while underage. There was not a lot of weight to it all and it died off quickly, but he voluntarily left because he didn't want them tarnished with something he did in his past. They didn't have a problem with him being gay, but the allegations were the focus of the resignation.

Ahmed Best did Jar Jar. He's actually ended up doing a lot of video game and animation voiceovers, which frankly isn't bad work if you can get it. You show up looking however you want, you skip hair, makeup and wardrobe and just talk for a few hours.

Wasn't it Hayden who said he actually left acting for a while after people hated him as Anakin? I forget off hand.

Jar Jar would've been better with Michael Jackson.

Funny... I believe the story because his name followed the usual alias pattern.

Initials in real life: MJJ
Simpsons Initials: JJS
Potential SW Initials: JJB

Just a reversal from One letter, two dupes, to Two Dupes, One letter.

Jar Jar Binks.

It's too bad MJ didn't get it. I've since bought up quite a few Jar Jar Binks Masks for a project I have in the works.

*Also love the fan theory that Binks was evil. That would've been a great reveal. Too bad the films pretty much all sucked. SOmehow I still rank Ep II better than the others. If you reduced them to each 40 minutes you might have something. I'll have to check out those fan edits mentioned here. Thanks for the info

Agreed. However I'm sooo sick of people proclaiming their hate for TLJ every chance they get and especially when the comments come out at inappropriate times (Star Wars Facebook page celebrates one of the actors birthdays, etc.). People dislike the movies, fine. I wish they'd just give their opinion and then shut the hell up. But nooooo. They just keep bitching and bitching. mad

Like I said, people are always going to bitch. But the box office & fan demand trumps it all.

I'm quite frankly the movies have taken the direction they have. Lucas recently said his plan was for the last three movies to go into the ethereal and spiritual realm with the force and midi-chlorians. I think there is a scene is Rebels or something where this is touched on a bit. However, stretching that over 3 movies sounds painful.

The box office for 8 was half of 7. SOLO lost money, so I'm not sure where you are getting your info. As for demand, it's wavering. SW has never done well overseas(which is a huge market) and now Kathleen Kennedy is actively shitting on the loyal US fanbase that made SW so popular in the first place. Not to worry though, she and her sjw agenda are close to being replaced.

About as much as the current films have a radical, sjw agenda. Han in the original movie was only a chauvinist.

I don't see any toxic masculinity in the originals or any sjw agenda in the new movies. All I see is a silly, enjoyable sci-fi/fantasy series whose rabid "fans" need to get a life and stop complaining about every little minor detail.

It's true though. Oh look, an Asian woman and a black man. It must be some sort of sjw propaganda. Not to mention the numerous moronic things I've read about the reveal that Rey's parents were nobodies. People actually said that they felt "betrayed" by that. Betrayed. By a movie. Or when others complained about how Luke and Han were killed off. It's Star Wars. The older, mentor characters are always dying. Obi Wan in the original. Yoda in the teddy bear one. Even Liam Neeson's particular set of skills couldn't keep Qui Gon alive through The Phantom Menace. It's a staple of most fantasy stories. The wise old mentor dies so that the students can prove their worth. These things have to happen. And yet people are still surprised when they do.

Has nothing to do with being asian or black - the characters are poorly written. We went from Luke, Han, Leia, Vader, Chewie, Lando, etc., to THIS pathetic group? I wanted most of them to die off so bad, particularly Rose, Finn & Emo Vader. For me, TLJ is on the same level as Phantom Menace for its cringe factor. I'm glad fans are speaking out....unfortunately, you always have asswipes who take shit too far.

The characters were always poorly written. Kylo Ren hasn't proved himself anywhere near the level of a Darth Vader but let's not pretend that even the old Star Wars movies were anything special. The dialogue was terrible and the characters were always two dimensional at best. Harrison Ford's charisma saved the Han Solo character but Luke and the rest of them were just your typical clichéd fantasy movie characters. Finn gets on my nerves and Rose is too forgettable for me to dislike but they're not that much worse than the characters in the originals.

Jar Jar goes beyond irritating for me. Phantom Menace was the first Star Wars movie I ever seen. I think I was 9 years old when I seen it. And even then I thought Jar Jar was awful.

Everytime i see BB8 i want to punt that dumbed down r2 ... they just put bb8 in the movie for the toddlers and to sell plush squeaky toys .. serves no purpose .. only worse baby fodder was those stupid cartoon birds chewie should have ate in TLJ ... r2 is the center and hero of the good movies BB8 just makes dumb noises and wobbles ... complete fail

I'd have to disagree. If anything BB8 is the stand-in for R2 since he's all moody and quiet. R2 was just as "cute" in the other movies. Truly, there is nothing close to Jar Jar. Abrams et al certainly knew the pangs of Jar Jar among fans and stayed away from that sort of bullshit.

After she died they said she wouldn't be in it at all. Then I seen a story where her daughter and, I think it was her brother, said that Carrie should be in the movie regardless of her death. So it looks like Disney have changed their minds and decided to have her featured after all. Personally, I think it would be weird NOT to include her. With this being the final film in the "Skywalker Saga" it's only right that she would be in it. I'm also willing to bet that Mark Hamill and maybe even Hayden Christensen will show up as ghosts at some point.

Yeah I'm ok with it too
