umm...OK. *I* watched Prince's "Thieves in the temple" video which to *me* at least, appeared to be playing from Youtube. Whatever.

But - surely that is illegal? You're not supposed to upload YOUR stuff for others to listen to..??!!

I started listening to "Thieves In The Temple" in my playlist: https://8tracks.com/sexto...ance-party and it plays the version I uploaded. While there is a YouTube link in the corner for every song, those links go to other songs uploaded by other people on YouTube, many of which--for my playlists at least--are incorrect or dead links because the corresponding songs don't exist on YouTube.

And yes, it's legal. That's why there is a limit of two songs per artist per playlist, the playlist can only be played in order the first time, the playlist can't be displayed anywhere on the site, etc.--all rules made in agreement with the music industry.

I forgot you said you are located in India. Regardless, 8tracks does indeed host music and stream from its servers--for North Americans. So it's not much use for international listerners clearly.

My IPod Classic finally stopped working after about 10 years of non stop usage. I couldn't find a suitable replacement anywhere. Do they even still make them anymore? In the end I just gave up and bought a 256gb sd card for my phone and put my music on that. It actually worked out cheaper than what I originally paid for my old IPod and it has more storage space.

The refurbished market is alive and well. I had a guy put a new battery in my 20 year old Ipod and it works like new.

Cool. I would never have even thought of that. Hopefully it stays in perfect working order but it wouldn't hurt to have a backup plan just in case.

Same here! I listen to my Ipods almost every day... Funny thing this thread made me think of is how big business now tries to convince customers that their devices are obsolete in just a few years (of course, there is built-in obsolensce these days... :eyeroll:). But older devices can still have a second life for not too much money--like putting a new battery into a 4th Gen Ipod (with the Wolfson Sound Chip!). I still have a thirty year old microwave that works like a trooper and the light bulb has never died. Tried to get a new one last year and it didn't even last one day--over heated and shut itself off. I returned it and told my son, "I'm done! I'll use this microwave that's a year younger than you until the door falls off!" LOL BTW for those who think light bulbs don't last very long, there is a city in Canada (can't remember the name of it) that has a light bulb that has been working continuously in a public building since the early 1900s. It's all about planned obsolescence these days and trying to get the public not to get old things repaired or refurbished. Money grab!

Funny, actually a lot of my co-workers want to get an IPod now, just for listening to music instead of using their phones.

Ain't that great. LOL I would love to get a record player again but my place is too small (and the neighbors complain). Stuck with Ipods and head phones. I have four (plus the one my son doesn't want any more). Gonna get one more and then I guess I will have to step into the future when Apple will stop supporting Itunes... Better save the current Itunes...

i've got maybe 1/2 to 2/3 spread across 2 laptops, a desktop and a hard drive and various hard copies strewn around...i'll cherry pick what i feel like. a lot of it was stuff from the library that i would get for spells of immersive listening...complete discographies and the like.

i don't mind so much. it'll be fun to rebuild.

Google Play is my preferred choice because it intergrates with my MP3 collection. It also has almost anything else I want to listen to.

I use Mixcloud to listen to mixes.

I am old school - I buy the CDs I want to keep (such as Princes) but dont do Spotify or Tidal or any of those. I rip all my music in to my itunes so I can listen in the car and the gym. IF I dont want to buy a CD I get it from the library for free and rip into iTunes. I back up all my albums on external hard drives as well so I have back ups and I can switch my library around if the iTunes library gets too big. People forget their libraries always get the lastest albums too...............its a good source as you can get it in higher quality as opposed to purchasing from iTunes which is lower quality.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜
