He never judged other cultures. He went to Iran and ate pizza with ketchup with kids riding fast in cars. He ate fried chicken with a woman in Saudi Arabia. He told the truth about Vietnam War, said he would like to Kill Henry Kissinger for Cambodia. He went to Africa and had love for the people. He did learn mistakes when he went to Haiti, he ate food, a bunch of people were watching them because they were starving, so bourdain tried to buy some of them food and a near riot happened. Hungry people are desperate. Bourdain learned that politics plays a lot in countries.

Yep, it is usually common that people seem normal outside and inside they may have turmoil. I would believe on the inside he was debating suicide the entire time. You just never know what is going on inside peoples minds.

I do think Anthony was one who probably always had an edgy personality.
Read “kitchen Confidential”. The life of a chef is on par with rock n roll
Tons tons of drugs. That book was a jaw dropper.

To add: not all chefs, just the rock n roll types

This is true but within that week she was also seen with someone else holding hands. Some journalist. They pulled the pics upon news of the suicide. It would make sense he caught wind of this and committed suicide. Case closed.

I would hate to think that Anthony Bourdain, who had everything going for him, and everything to live for, would kill himself over that.

I feel same. What I found most interesting about the pictures is they all wear watches. Who does that with a smartphone?

Of all the stuff I post and you have to attack me like that and can't even communicate like a normal human being. You know why many of us left PR. You guys just go there to argue. You won't find me and many others there. Very much stating I believe suicide over relationship is wrong. And your other friend trying to justify suicide towards me, what a bunch of pleasant nice people. Laughable.

Trying to justify suicide towards me.
What does that mean? You are the one on both suicide threads saying flippant things like break-up suicides - case closed. And this gem - From what I'm understanding from spiritual leader is it will become more and more prevalent. That is some meaningless bullshit right there.

Today's a day of extreme sadness for us here at Xi'an Famous Foods. I've lost a dear friend today, and we mourn with the rest of the world. I remember the time in 2007 when Tony first visited our basement food stall in Flushing for Travel Channel's No Reservations while I was still in college (even though I didn't know who he was at the time).

I remember my father preparing interesting off-menu dishes to get his opinion on when he visited our store. I remember years later in 2015 after interviewing together for an article, I approached Tony and told him, while he may have no idea what he has done for our family and business by simply saying he enjoyed the food, I wanted him to know it helped bring our family out from living in one room in Flushing to living the American dream. We were able to grow our business and provide great food for our guests, and opportunities for our employees. I looked at him in the eyes and said, this is something we will always be thankful for, Tony. And he simply replied, "I'm just calling out good food like it is, that's all."

In honor of his memory and all of those dear people who left us all too early, and in taking whatever action we can to prevent suicide in the US, Xi'an Famous Foods will be donating 100% of our net sales on today, Friday, June 8, 2018, from all of our stores, to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline '1-800-273-TALK (8255)'. Please cherish all of our lives and help those who may be struggling. Rest in peace, Tony, and the most sincere condolences to Tony's beloved family.

To me it was disturbing for other orgers to post that suicide is bravery. It goes against everything I believe in spiritually. If people are feeling suicidal seek help.

There is a interesting debate about that meme on the Reddit link I posted. Gayle added the "most cases".

Lots of good comments here.

https://www.reddit.com/r/...m-comments

One of the things some people pointed out about that meme is that for them depression is NOT a temporary problem.

CapOnFoam

"Or, you're just so TIRED of having to keep going that you just want it all to stop. Imagine waking up every morning and having to go out and run all day long. Run until you go to bed. Then wake up the next day and do it again. And the next. And the next. No end in sight for the rest of your life.

You're so fucking TIRED of having to run, of struggling every day, of being so totally exhausted from barely making it all day. You start to wish you could just stop all the running. That tomorrow you'd do anything not to have to run. Anything to make it stop, to end the exhaustion and the struggle.

The call to end it sounds like amazing relief. You wouldn't have to run anymore. You wouldn't be exhausted anymore. It would finally be over. That's what it's like. Wanting some fucking rest from the exhaustion and struggle of existing. You know others will hurt, but they'll heal over time."

Depression, for many, is not a temporary problem...but death comes to us all, sooner or later. The trick is to try to find value in this life and a reason to continue on and not rush to what is a permanent end.

I'm not saying I agree with the meme or not but there's a good discussion around it.

Something similar I've said before about suicide is you're going to die anyway. Comes with the birth certificate. Not sure if people in that state consider it that way. Think it's ending the pain in their life more than wanting death.

Watches are part of fashion and accessories and should be appreciated. Smartphones are nothing compared to a beautiful timepiece. WTF??

Did not know this....

I thought most people knew Sid Vicious was a moron.

Either way, this adds something else (possibly) to a motive. If directed at Bourdain (and not in praise of Bourdain somehow... if he was known as a Sid Vicious of the culinary show) this would be a direct link. Heartbroken guy, replaced for younger lookalike (somewhat)... possibility.

Some people dont like being made an ass of. Could that have been the last straw? Any details on that?
