Yes, LeBron is a better player, but I thought Toronto had a better team. But I didn't count on two things; 1) LeBron getting help from his guys & 2) Toronto's lack of mental toughness. DeRozan & Lowry had a COMBINED 18 POINTS in playoff elimination game! C'mon, that shit is unacceptable.

Did you hear DeRozan's press conference after the game? Pathetic is being kind.

You know what the Raptors need? Cats like Draymond Green and Marcus Smart - nasty, pain-in-the-ass mfers who play with a chip on their shoulder.

I have told my husband so many times that these 2 have to get "nasty". I'm glad they're not assholes, but they need to get mad, stir some shit up once in a while. Sometimes, they're too nice.

Shit, Michael Jordan was an asshole to his own teammates, Pippen included. If you weren't mentally tough, your ass was gone. Kobe, Kevin Garnett were pricks on the court too. We've all seen Tom Brady screaming at his guys on the sideline. But that's what you want from your superstars. This is about winning....you can't be pussy-footing around out there. LeBron's not going to give up easily - you have to TAKE IT from him.

Someone at OS pointed out that DeRozan is at the crossroads of his career, and I agree. Does he want to take it to the next level, or is he content with being an All-Star? Dude was outplayed by Jeff Green. If that doesn't light a fire under his ass this summer, nothing will.

Western Conference Playoffs, Conference Semifinals

Game 5

6749_utah_jazz-primary-2017.pngUtah Jazz 102 hou.png&h=50 Houston Rockets 112

The Houston Rockets had a golden opportunity to close out this series against the Utah Jazz by using their explosive offense thay have had all season and for most of these playoffs. But the Jazz would give Houston more than they bargained for in this game.

Unlike the Toronto Raptors who were rolled over by the Cleveland Cavaliers in their elimination game, The Jazz cane out swinging and hung tough against Houston, even leading for much of the third quarter due to an inspired performance from Donovan Mitchell, who scored 22 of his 24 points in the quarter while also dishing out nine assists in this game. They also got a strong performance off the bench from Alec Burks, who scored 22 points in this game. Royce O'Neale also had a solid game, scoring 17 points while Rudy Gobert and Joe Ingles each added 12 points. Utah also was assisted by a poor shooting night from James Harden, who scored just 18 points on 7 for 22 shooting from the floor, and also from foul trouble from Clint Capela.

But Chris Paul would run to the rescue for Houston in this game. He scored a career-high 41 points including eight 3-pointers while also dishing out 10 assists and grabbing seven rebounds yet not making a turnover. He also got help from P.J. Tucker, who scored 19 points including a key 3-pointer that sealed the victory and the series for the Rockets. With this series win, Paul makes his first conference finals appearance in his 13 year career.

Houston wins series 4-1.

Western Conference Playoffs, Conference Semifinals

Game 5

NO.pngNew Orleans Pelicans 104 GS.png&h=50&w=50 Golden State Warriors 113

The Golden State Warriors had a chance to close out this series against the New Orleans Pelicans with a healthy Stephen Curry. But New Orleans wasn't quite ready to give up yet.

The Warriors would surge out to an early lead, but the Pelicans refused to give up in the second quarter, leaning on their superstar Anthony Davis, who would finish with a game-high 34 points while also grabbing 19 rebounds. Jrue Holiday also had a huge game, getting a triple double, scoring 27 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out 11 assists. The Pelicans briefly led near the end of the second quarter before going into halftime down by just three.

But Stephen Curry would ignite Golden State in the third quarter. He spaked a 10-0 run to start the quarter by hitting two 3-pointers, and they would build up to a 22 point lead early in the fourth quarter. The Pelicans made one final furious run, cutting the deficit to seven points with just over two minutes remaining in the game. But Draymond Green would hit two crucial jumpers in t he final two minutes to seal the victory and the series. Stephen Curry scored 23 points, dished out eight assists, and grabbed seven rebounds. Kevin Durant scored 24 points, dished out seven assists, and grabbed six rebounds while Klay Thompson added 23 points and Draymond Green fell just short of a triple double, scoring 19 points, grabbing 14 rebounds, and dishing out nine assists. For the Pelicans, they made a furious comeback but simply ran out of time.

The Warriors now head to Houston to begin the Western Conference Finals.

Golden State wins series 4-1.

Eastern Conference Playoffs, Conference Semifinals

Game 5

Phi.png&h=50&w=50 Philadelphia 76ers 112 Bos.png&h=50&w=50 Boston Celtics 114

The Boston Celtics came into this game disappointed that they were unable to sweep this series in game 4 but felt they had a good shot of closing out this series in front of their home crowd. Meanwhile, the Phiiladelphia 76ers thought they had a game plan to deal with the Celtics after having some success in game 4 to stay alive in this series.

In the end this game would be an epic battle reminisicent of other playoff games in this longstanding rivalry going all they way back to the Bill Russell days against Billy Cunningham and continuing through Larry Bird and Julius Erving, Reggie Lewis and Charles Barkley, Paul Pierce and Allen Iverson, and even earlier in this decade with Kevin Garnett and Elton Brand. The game would be tight throughout the first half, with both teams going back and forth until the Celtics were able to pull away slightly at halftime. The Celtics would extend their lead to 10 points in the third quarter, but the Sixers would creep their way back into this game.

J.J. Redick and Dario Saric would bring the Sixers back, even regaining the lead in the fourth quarter. But it then became a battle of wills between Ben Simmons and Jayson Tatum, with both players pushing their respective teams down the stretch. Simmons pulled the Sixers into a three point lead with three minutes remaining, but Tatum would bring the Celtics back with a couple free throws and a huge layup with 22 seconds remaining in the game. After a couple of free throws from Terry Rozier to put the Celtics up by four, J.J. Redick hit a huge 3-pointer to pull the Sixers within a point with 3.8 seconds remaining. They immediately fouled Marcus Smart, who made one of two free throws with 2.4 seconds remaining. Ben Simmons attmpted to make the Hail Mary pass down court, but it was intercepted by Marcus Smart as time expired, thus ending an epic game and giving the Celtics the series.

Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 25 points. Jaylen Brown scored 24 points, Terry Rozier scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds, Al Horford scored 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and made five steals, Marcus Smart scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Aron Baynes added 13 points and nine rebounds. Joel Embiid and Dario Saric each led the Sixers with 27 points while grabbing 12 and 10 reebounds respectively. Ben Simmons scored 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out six assists whlle J.J. Redick added 14 points. It was a disappointing end for Philly, but also maybe a sign of epic battles to come in the following years.

The Boston Celtics now await a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Finals with Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Boston wins series 4-1.

Shame.

They may regret that. His situation reminds me of MEM's a few years back where they fired Hollins and thought they could do better, and got progressively worse.

I think TOR takes 1-2 steps back next year, beginning a gradual slide.

Not Casey's fault his "stars" played small when the heat was on.

I agree with Shaq....I saw no problem with the DeRozan benching. Dude is supposed to be the man, and he wasn't getting it done.

nod Casey can't coach, score and defend. Lowry and DeRozan have to look at themselves. James produced more by himself than they did combined.

TOR may live to regret this decision. But maybe they need a Mark Jackson type to get them going.

They need their main guys to grow a pair and take their game to the next level. They better hurry up, because Boston and Philly are loaded with young talent and will come back stronger. Same with Indiana and Milwaukee.

Eastern Conference Finals

Game 1

cavaliers-global-logo.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&w=300&strip=all Cleveland Cavaliers 83 Bos.png&h=50&w=50 Boston Celtics 108

The Boston Celtics came into these conference finals looking for revenge from their conference finals loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, and they were looking to stick it to Lebron James. However, the consensus among many experts is that without their stars Kyrie Irving and Gordon Heyward, they face an uphill battle of getting past the Cavs based on recent history.

The Celtics knew they had to play some really soiid defense if they were going to defeat the Cavs, and they also had to continue playing their unselfish offensive game that they have played all throughout the playoffs. And they would do that in spades in this game. Towards the end of the first quarter, the Celtics went on a 25-2 run that extended well into the second quarter that blew the game open. They also held the Cavs to just a single field goal from the floor in 12 attempts during that span. They played strong defense against Lebron James, who finished with just 15 points on 5 for 16 shooting from the floor. The Celtics led by as much as 28 points, but Cleveland would briefly make a run that cut the deficit in half before the Celtics kicked back into full gear and extended the lead for good. Jaylen Brown led Boston with 23 points and eight rebounds. Marcus Morris got the starting job to play defense against Lebron but was a force offensively, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Al Horford scored 20 points, dished out six assists, and grabbed four rebounds while Jayson Tatum added 16 points and six rebounds.

Kevin Love led the Cavs with 17 points and eight points but also shot poorly from the field, hitting just five shots on 14 attempts. Rodney Hood, who bailed on the Cavs in the last game against the Toronto Raptors, scored 11 points mostly in garbage time while Jordan Clarkson added 10 points.

Boston leads series 1-0.

Kevin Durant was incredible last night. If he plays like that 3 more times, there's nothing we can do.

Unless maybe not get 2 quick phantom fouls called on Trevor Ariza. But I'm not sure that even that would have made a lot of difference. Durant was lights-out last night. We've gotta stop him or it's the end of the road.

If I'm a HOU fan, I'd be worried that GSW scored nearly 30 per quarter and Steph only provided 18 points on a bad shooting night. As Kerr said to Steph during a TO, things are going to open up for him as the series progresses.

I had problems with how Ariza was officiated as well, but HOU's rotations were downright baffling at times.

But this series could be over by tomorrow.

Houston's gameplan was baffling.....Harden going ISO with the other players standing around???? No cutting, no flow, nothing - WTF??? That shit works against lower level teams, not Golden State with their talent/length/athleticism. Like Reggie Miller said, Rockets were playing into the Warriors hands.

namepece, you see the difference between Lowry/ DeRozan and Tatum/ Brown/ Rozier? Those young boys on Boston are taking it to LeBron. They're playing with toughness, something Toronto's stars didn't have.

Western Conference Finals

Game 1

GS.png&h=50&w=50 Golden State Warriors 119 hou.png&h=50 Houston Rockets 106

The Houston Rockets came into these Western Conference Finals with confidence and home court advantage, and they felt they were finally in position to take on a Golden State Warriors team which has dominated the NBA for the past few years. They also felt the Warriors were at their most vulernable since Steve Kerr became coach, and they believed their explosive offense led by James Harden could overcome the likes of Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry.

Golden State had other plans, however. They came out with tactical defensive advantages and forced the Rockets into isolation plays for most of the night. In fact, Houston had 45 isolation plays in Game 1; the most by any team in any game - regular season or playoffs - over the past five seasons and more than double what they averaged in the regular season (22, first in the NBA).

Though James Harden would score a game high 41 points in this game, it put a lot of pressure on the supporting cast to step up, and the results for the Rockets were uneven. Meanwhile, the defense the Warriors forced on Houston allowed their offense to pick up the slack, and they stayed in striking distance until the third quarter when they went on an extended run to push their lead to 13 points. The Rockets would cut Golden State's lead to four in the fourth quarter but got no closer, as the Warriors would pull away for the victory. Kevin Durant led the Warriors with 37 points while Klay Thompson added 28 points and Stephen Curry added 18 points, eight assists, and six rebounds.

Chris Paul scored 23 points for the Rockets while also grabbing 11 rebounds. Eric Gordon scored 15 points off the bench while Clint Capela added 12 points and six rebounds.

Golden State leads series 1-0.

Eastern Conference Finals

Game 2

cavaliers-global-logo.jpg?quality=85&strip=all&w=300&strip=all Cleveland Cavaliers 94 Bos.png&h=50&w=50 Boston Celtics 107

The Boston Celtics didn't just surprise the world by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers in game 1 of these conference finals; they absolutely embarassed them. In fact, it was so bad that Lebron James vowed to step up his game and take over if necessary. And he would come out absolutely on fire, scoring 22 points in the first quarter including five 3-pointers as the Cavs jumped out to a huge early lead.

But the Celtics have been nothing but patient all season, and they knew if they kept their composure and played their type of game, it would eventually come back to them. They withstood the furious Cavs run in the first half and clawed their way back, tying the game midway through the third quarter and took the lead with a 3-pointer from Marcus Smart with four and a half minutes remaining in the third, which they would not relinquish. Once again for Boston it was all hands on deck, with Jaylen Brown leading the Celtics with 23 points and seven rebounds. Terry Rozier scored 18 points, Al Horford scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Marcus Morris scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds, and Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart each added 11 points.

Lebron James finished with a triple double, scoring 42 points, dishing out 12 assists, and grabbing 10 rebounds. Kevin Love scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Cavs while Kyle Korver added 11 points. But the quintet of Tristan Thompson, J.R. Smith, George Hill, Jeff Green, and Larry Nance Jr. scored a total of 17 points between them, with Smith and Nance putting up goose eggs. If the Cavs supporting cast contunies to play like this, it may very well be a short series.

Boston leads series 2-0.

Blasphemy!

But yeah - as you and uPtoWnNY said, the rotation was suspect. I tend to believe that was because of the Ariza fouls. But Nene - who dominated last year's playoffs and a lot in teh regular season this year - looked like a fish outof water.

The Rockets were one of the best defensive teams in the league this year. But not on Monday night.

I like our chances better if we have to stop Curry instead of Durant. No one can stop Durant. We have to hope that he stops himself, LOL.

We may have to play the same defense I played in school. I called it "HYM Defense". That stood for Hope You Miss.

Another defensive technique that worked well for me was whenever a player was just about to release a jump shot, I'd make a loud farting noise with my lips and tongue. Worked the first time every time, but only so-so after that.

Western Conference Finals

Game 2

GS.png&h=50&w=50 Golden State Warriors 105 hou.png&h=50 Houston Rockets 127

The Houston Rockets were widely criticized for their offensive game tactics in game 1 of this series, and many fans and critics thought they needed to change up their style of play if they were going to defeat the Golden State Warriors. The Rockets took the suggestions to heart but decided they would do what worked for them all season. However, they did need to step up their defense, and this time around they would be successful at it.

Houston would step up their defense, forcing the Warriors to get sloppy and turn the ball over multiple times. In fact, Golden State had seven turnovers in the first quarter alone and 11 by halftime after only committing nine turnovers in all of Game 1. Meanwhile, the Rockets would not only rely on James Harden to save the day; they got much help from their supporting cast. Eric Gordon was particularly huge, scoring 27 points including six 3-pointers. James Harden matched his point total while P.J. Tucker scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Trevor Ariza scored 19 points and dished out six assists while Chris Paul added 16 points, six assists, and three steals. The Rockets would pull away early in this game and cruised to victory.

Kevin Durant led the Warriors with 38 points, but Stephen Curry was held to just 16 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds. None of the other Warriors players finished in double digits in scoring.

Series tied at 1-1.

Well, your faith paid off RSchro! We have a series now.

The original core (Steph, Klay, Dray) look tired. 4 years of deep playoff runs get to you.

Steph looks like he's not 100% but they're making him work on defense too.

Ariza being able to stay in the game was a huge help, and the role players hit some big shots.

Now THAT was the Houston Rockets we all came to know and love! Great ball movement and much better defense. Durant still went off but this time we held everyone else pretty much in check.

I loved seeing Draymond Green lose his s***. Dirtiest player in the NBA since John Stockton. Maybe the dirtiest ever. He's a POS.

But enough about poop. It's great to be going to Golden State after a win rather than a loss. We have the momentum, let's hope we can keep it!

San Antonio's Bruce Bowen was the dirtiest ever. He was flying kicking folks in the head.

Bowen was horrible. You'd go up for a jumper and he'd stick his foot under yours, hoping to turn an ankle. I can't believe he wasn't punched out.

But when it comes to kicking people, Draymond Green has no equal:

This morning I was walking into our building and there was a guy one his phone. As I walked by he said, "That guy is a pussy and I mean that literally". He HAD to be talking about Draymond Green, LOL.

Pachulia is actually "dirtier" than Dray, who often gets cheap, but not always dirty.

And FWIW, CP3 has a bit of a rep too.

Oh yeah, Pachulia is really bad too.

I hadn't heard anything about CP3 being dirty - just that he was a smart-aleck. I haven't seen him do anything dirty during his time with the Rockets but I'll keep an eye out.

Bomani Jones commented that he can get dirty with the best of them, and said to watch out for him if his team starts to struggle this round. So I just filed that away, and sure enough, he pulled a little move on Durant in Game 1 going after his ribs. I really like his game and how he carries himself but still.

My Cavs are down 0-2!! Not good. I am still holding out hope they can turn it around though.

I'll believe an East team can beat the LeBrons 4 of 7 when I see it. But BOS is playing awfully strong.

Their starting backcourt produced a total of three points in Game 2. That has to change in Game 3.

I agree! They better get it together and quick. I mean, they came off a sweep of Toronto, now this? Doesn't feel or look like the same team to me.
