The early word is the movie is very good. Granted that this is from people that saw the premiere (it will be shown again next week) so there is some bias... but I am thinking this is good news.

also in the works is a live action show that takes place 7 years after ROTJ...

Good news about the movie being received well. I'm sure it will have the usual complaints from the usual people but aside from Empire Strikes Back, I personally think that Star wars has never been better ever since Disney took over the series. Based on that, I'm really looking forward to seeing Solo.

I'm hearing mixed reactions, but I will wait off course until I have seen it myself.
Lando seems to steal the movie and after all the worries about the actor playing Han it seems he is doing fine.

Metacritic has its aggregate at 66 which is overall positive...but lower than I was expecting: I had some worries early but the recent news gave me A New Hope that it would be better. (25 Postive, 7 Mixed, 1 negative).

8 days, 13 hours, and 2ish minutes!

Rottentomatoes currently has it at 73% but all the 'positive' reactions/reviews aren't gushing. They're so-so.

I wonder how much of the 'meh' is due to it being such a well-loved and iconic character and the early reports of trouble?

I can't stand that Woody Harrelson originally from "Cheers" and recently also a big part of "The Hunger Games" is in a Star Wars movie. The cool thing about the original "Star Wars" and even some of these recent offshoots like "Rogue One" was casting unknowns or obscure people as your heroes. Casting American celebs was a no no that made something feel like a variety show or made for TV movie... or boring Hollywood stuff.

Likewise Laura Dern threw me off the horse on the last one, because she is simply... at this point... Laura Dern. Too Hollywood.

Most of the negative reviews were "He's not Harrison. This shouldn't have been made. Wah!" I'm looking forward to it and I'm sure it the second viewing will be far less jarring just like the other three .

Most reviews seems to think a Han Solo movie wasn't needed at all. So that seems like they think it's just a cash grab. I don't expect anything groundbreaking with that movie just a fun, forgettable Star Wars movie without any stakes simply because Han, Chewie and Lando all seem to do fine later in the Star Wars universe.
I was immensly dissapointed with Infinity War and probably won't ever see it again. Marvel can't seem to find a balans between comedy and serious tones ever since phase 2/3 (or maybe the Deadpool movie has something to do with that.) everytime something serious happens they make some lame hurdur joke, sometimes I even expect some laugh track in background.
I do have high hopes for Deadpool 2 because I don't expect any serious world building or high stakes with Deadpool, just a really funny and entertaining popcorn flick.

I wouldn't mind that if they would make it completely seperate from the Harisson Ford movies and have nothing in common with those movies. Like a complete reboot with completely new stories. Or do a prequel about his dad Henry Jones.

Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) would be my choice for a reboot or prequel.

I was thinking they should make Indy IV with Harrison on the trail of something he once saught 40 years prior... and have that story told with a younger actor in a series of flashbacks... with some cheesy ending of Harrison's indy hanging up his whip and hat and the new Indy picking it up and taking off on a new adventure....

Yeah because 8 year old kids really need that kind of bullshit background info when watching these movies or when playing with their action figures...
Who gives a fuck what or how Lando fucks?
You'd think Pedo-Disney's planning a "Lando: The Underage Jawa Pusher- A Star Wars Story" or something...

Just when you thought human stupidity was reaching it's climax these dumbfuck creatures come up with "gender" "issues" and moronic and plain retarded fantasies about there being more than 2 genders or "sexual preference" "issues" just to dig deeper into stupidity and annoy the sane few that are left on this planet...

Seriously? lol

In a Star Wars movie? Made by Disney? lol lol

I appreciate more diversity in movies and bringing a certain awareness to important social issues in movies for grown folks but gender issues and sexual preferences in a Star Wars movie, of all movies? This is really a bit ridiculous. And then they wonder why people feel like these issues are rammed down their throat. Like geese that are being forcefed to make foie gras.

Don´t get me wrong, I really like that Hollywood is becoming more diverse these days because it´s about time but it often looks like pandering to Chinese investors and audiences lately, or writing sexual stuff into the script just for the sake of including it, regardless of whether it adds to the story.

Sounds way too pedagogical to me.

Co-sign on everything you wrote.

Because a Star Wars movie by Disney is the perfect vehicle to bring awareness to gender issues. lol

I think you’re getting the biological meaning of the word “sex” mixed up with the cultural and social role oriented definition of “gender”.

No, I'm not...
I know "Gender" is a social construct, but in the end there is only "Male" and "Female", and if people don't indentify with either then they're fucking retards and they need to either grow up or have themselves commited to get some serious help...
Next thing you know idiots will take people who identify with a tire iron or skunk seriously...

Wow. I wouldn't have said it so blunt but I actually agree.
But back to Solo, I'm hearing more and more negative words for it to even that it's worse than Episode 1 and could be the worst Star Wars Movie to date eek
Still I will wait until I have seen it, I still have hope.

Somthing rubs me the wrong with that guy. His acting always annoys me whenever I see him in a movie. Especially that really bad last Terminator movie and even in Dawn of The Planet of the Apes, I saw that last night it was on TV and he somehow just didn;t fit in that movie.

You and JorisE73 need to read this article: https://www.medicalnewsto...232363.php

Also, you do realize you are on a fan website for a guy that would dress in woman’s clothes, wore female style eye makeup and hair styles, combined the male and female symbol, and even said “... and all you others say, hell yeah”

One of the things that made the original Star Wars so great was that the traditionally male gendered role of tough sarcastic military spy/political leader was assigned to the princess who needed to be rescued. Despite still having perfect lipstick and eyeshadow.

That being said, the idea of introducing progressive or gray area gender qualities to Lando is laughable based on how male styled the character was rendered and how heterosexual (he kept flirting with Leia) he was in Empire Strikes Back. What do they mean Billy Dee Williams exhibited pan sexual qualities? And droids too!? Lol. Okay I do get it with the R2 and Threepio couple and Threepio cliche gay proper mannerisms. “Oh my! How rude”.

That's not the point I'm making...
I fully understand when humans that are labeled as the bullshit socially accepted standard for "men" identify as the bullshit socially accepted standard for "women" or vice versa and that's quite sane if you ask me as I could care less how people dress or act and what society has labeled to be male or female appearances...
What I find fucking retarded is these fucking special snowflake idiots who claim they are neither and that people should take note of them, mentally that's insane and these people are just confused, attention seeking idiots... In the end they are just like any other humanbeing and have both qualities in either equal or inequal amount, but that wouldn't make them feel "special"...

Just got back from the first screening in the UK.

Really enjoyed it!

It's what I hoped for, a simple hiest/action movie, with easter eggs all over the place if you know what to look for/listen out for.

Alden was good and I delivered what I younger Han would have gone through.

Emilia and Donald were particularly good.

Obviously I'll avoid spoilers, but there were excellent bits:

Nods in the music, all the historic pieces fitted together and their is one really big surprise that only die hards/Expanded EU will get.

Just go in looking for a good action movie and no lore and you'll be fine.

By the way, the whole Lando pan sexual thing is rubbish. Its not in the film. Don't know how those rumours started.

There is no SJW feel to this like The Last Jedi.

There is one comment made by L3 (the 'female' droid) that could be construded as girl power, but in the context, its more about droid rights than female rights.

Don't go in worrying about SJW. It doesn't go there.

This is what I need to do, get my head out of 'Star Wars mode' and just accept it as a good action film.

My biggest gripe about these sort of prequels is placing the lead characters like Chewie and Han in peril ... there's no tension there because we all know they live to fight another day/film.

And assuming it has the obligatory happy ending, how happy can we be for Han already knowing how it ends for him on that bridge? ...

I digested what I saw overnight.

Good film. Not great, and not as epic as say Rogue One, but it does a great job at tying up old lines, reasons and legends against the back drop of a space action movie.

I enjoyed seeing the underbelly of the galaxy.

Alden does a fairly good job. When you see it, think of the Han in A New Hope. The more sceptical and bitter Han, not the later ESB or ROTJ Han. Aldens Han is building up to what we see in ANH, and I think it works.
