I am not a wine drinker, but I do indulge in some Barefoot Moscato at times. Someone recently brought over some port and to my surprise, I liked it. I do not like dry alcohols of any kind really, but port is a sweet wine and I thought it was good.

What I am hoping is that some people here are much more versed in wines overall and might be able to direct me to brand names that are considered good? I'm not a price snob, so we can talk anything from cheap to expensive. Also, while bubbly wine isn't bad, I don't care for carbonation in general so don't limit suggestions to just sparkling-type wines.

Anyone got any recs for some brands I should try?

Actually, I have "yummy"taste buds, I never developed a good taste for alcohol, so though I can drink wine in any setting, I'll never become a expert of it, I only like the sweet stuff, the reds over the whites. I only go as far as a cabernet, merlots can't do 'em. Not crazy about Barefoot though I don't have a brand I like the most.

I am a big fan of Pinot Noirs. Some good ones that are not expensive at all are:

Mark West
Meiomi

I like a white Canai or Moscato myself. I used to have a margarita recipe that used Moscato or Prosecco in it. It was off the hook.

5oz moscato

4oz tequila

5 1/3oz lime juice

2oz orange juice

1 ounce ginger simple syrup *

For those that don't know, 1 cup sugar + 1 cup water, heated just until the sugar melts; then totally cool the solution. That's simple syrup.

That sounds good, I'm gonna have to try it.

The girls wanted a Pear Sangria so I mixed some up (huge batch) I used Moscato, Vodka, Fresh sliced pears, and pear syrup from canned pears that I drained, and a 2 liter of sprite. It was sweet but good.

I also made an apple sangria with red wine, fresh apples, apple schnaaps, vodka and sprite. It wasn't as good as the pear.

My mom likes Moscato, and while I have a sweet tooth and love a good sangria...most Moscato wines that I've had were too sweet for me.

THEN the other day I tried Pindat Moscato and it was AMAZING! I even bought 2 bottles for my house.
Sweet but not too sweet.

Oh, lovely! Several choices here but are they sweet wines? No can do the dry stuff, not even in hard liquor Moscato is so good but I don't want that carbonation factor.

Man, Canei????? I drank that YEARS ago. Loved it. I didn't know they still make it!

Shiraz and Merlot, ideally, but to be honest I'll drink anything vaguely red wine-ish.

I frequent a wine bar to pick up cougars or eat the leftover bacon. Sometimes both but I don't know the names of wines. Sometimes wine snobs think it is funny.

My favourites are Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc, and I never say no to good bubbles, especially champagne from France. Not so much into reds, but love rose and even sparkling rose.

I drink much more wine than beer and generally will drnk most bottled stuff but will not touch casks or cheap carbonated sparklings, like this shit we had back in the 1990s called Marque Vue. It was just junk, all the Kiwis will know what I am talking about.

I'm spoiled when it comes to wines, and drink them every other day. Living a the right place, drinking some of the best stuff on the planet I mainly stick with the european wines though.

I did a couple of wineries outside the DC Metro area this weekend. I don't usually imbibe but I was visiting a former co-worker who just moved to the area. Best Easter in a long time! Next time (and that may be before the end of the month) I'll get names of the wines sampled...all made in Virginia. My toes left the floor by the fourth taste so had to pound back some bread and cheese to keep from embarrasing myself, my friend, and the general population.

So Fman, yes I had usually stuck to European in the past but have ventured into Chilean and Argentenian within the past few years. Any opinions on those???

Not really, i had them of course, and while surely not bad, it was a step down from the usual. Beware though that I have no idea how high those wines where on that local chart; I'm not a specialist in South-American wines.
