Holy moley, the guy actually did it! He blased off in his very own garage-built rocket, went up about a quarter mile, and parachuted down to (round) Earth more-or-less safely. Wow, didn't see that coming!

And of course, he had the BEST quote afterwards: “Am I glad I did it?” Hughes concluded. “Yeah. I guess. I’ll feel it in the morning. I won’t be able to get out of bed. At least I can go home and have dinner and see my cats tonight.”



This launch did not prove the Earth is flat, however. He's now planning to go up 68 miles in a Balloon Rocket in order to see if the Earth really is flat. Hey, I'm not betting against this guy! I know the Earth is round but I won't be surprised if he makes it up those 68 miles. Hopefully he will (A) survive that; and (B) realize the Earth really is a sphere.
