What if this was your therapist?

hmmm

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...

I went to a therapist before. I told him "everyone hates me". He said "don't be silly, everyone doesn't know you".

So I went to a different therapist. I asked why nobody understands me. He said "what do you mean by that?"

I was going to go to a third one but when I seen his website was "www.therapist.com" I decided against it.

You should see the following clip. He has a few patients pay private to see him at his own home. All invited to a group session in one room! Not only that, he makes them play Grandmother's Footsteps? eek It's clear he has a narcissism problem.

I'm so underappreciated...

I did eventually go to another therapist who told me that I was paranoid. But I wouldn't take any notice of him, he's always had it in for me.

In fact one time he told me I have a preoccupation with vengeance. We'll see about that...

The League Of Gentlemen, the show from which this sketch is from, was a real cult comedy programme here in the UK. It's set in a fictional small village called Royston Vasey and inhabited by all manner of bizarre characters. I'm not sure how well the humour in it traveled abroad because it's definitely rooted in parodying elements of British small town culture and classic British horror movies such as The Wicker Man, but the show did heavily inspire the Canadian series Kids In The Hall: Death Comes To Town.

shhh No really, it is a sitcom. One of the best if not the best! Some people won't get it because it's quite dark, and like you hinted might not travel well. The best way to approach it as a newcomer is to understand it deals with 2 underlying themes: death of people and death of dreams.

I love dry dark British humor! I'm going way out on a limb and guessing why it doesn't translate well here in the states is because we don't have universal healthcare and the very obvious use of medical sexual harrasment.

Style is the second cousin to class

Yes true we have a universal healthcare system, and it is portrayed semi-accurately in the sketch. But in reality, you can't be both public and private doctor at the same time. Some people go private if they can afford to. The NHS doctors are under constant pressure because of funding constraints and I've heard they're incentivitized on keeping referral numbers down. That's certainly been my experience, being fobbed off by some doctor who was telling me information that appeared to break the laws of physics, nevermind biochemistry.

As an aside, I wouldn't want to be a practicing doctor in any western country, because so often they don't have the answers and you have to be really ill to get a diagnosis. But who knows, with private health insurance maybe they like to give quick diagnoses. If people get less ill deductibles go down?! shrug

Does anyone remember that on Arrested Development there was a character (played by David Cross) who had a card that said he was an "Analrapist"?
