Have to share some of my son's artwork...

My 16 year old has never really taken an art class. He took art in elementary school and one class in middle school. His main focus since starting high school has been to work towards a military career. Ugh. From my perspective, not looking foward to that, but it is something he has talked about since he was a very young boy. (Both of his grandfather's were Air Force.) He's always been artistic, but up until this year, he's mostly drawn Star Wars figures, or Destiny, or whatever militaristic game he is into. This year he started drawing people.

This is Colonel Bowser, his leader at JROTC. He plans to gift him with this picture. It's the first realistic picture he has ever done.

This was just him "doodling" he said:

Practicing with the eyes:

This is along the lines of some of the things he would draw normally:

27752013_10211982721262952_5455410117366920137_n.jpg?oh=b1b3276569ec81579521f3ed01561f2e&oe=5B06EB6A

Another one:

27657862_10211982721582960_1262463990825150636_n.jpg?oh=0e956a6b7267208841b266c11e582075&oe=5B184617

And this one is my favorite. It's just a random guy that he saw:

27858674_10211982605220051_9034560545664692611_n.jpg?oh=9723b35a8f81900f31b123876f32a895&oe=5B1E9408

All of these are drawn on sheets of paper that are 4"X 6" and some of them are pretty small.

I don't know where he got his talent...but he amazes me. I've asked him to draw me a Prince picture. But he hasn't yet. sad Maybe for Mother's Day! I'll keep dropping hints. lol

Thanks, everyone! I am proud of him!

As a side note, his sister, Cara, is in the final phase (interview and a review of some of her artwork) for the gifted program in Art for next year (9th grade). Dakota was in it in elementary school, but hated it, because they did more arts and craft type of activities and he's just not into that. He just wanted to draw.

Unfortunately, his grandma has already called dibbs on that one. She had a really strong reaction to it, too. She said something in this picture just really spoke to her. But I'll let him know! And thank you!

He strictly uses ink pens and paper. I've tried to introduce other mediums to him over the years, but he always goes back to pen.

I understand.

There are so many varieties of point sizes and colors now with ink pens.

rainbows of colors including metallics and neon colors, even whites.

There are, but he prefers a good old-fashioned ink pen. His grandmother actually bought him some really great art pens for Christmas this past year, but he'll still grab whatever pen he can get his hands on, usually the pens he uses for school.
