That's the only major snub I see.

'...negro' was nominated last year, losing to 'oj made in america.'

i was pulling for 'florida project' to get a best pic nomination. it received plenty of attention, but i would have liked to have seen a little more light shone on what i thought was one of the great films of last year.

Thanks for that clarification. I think it's staggered distribution date confused me and others into thinking it was a 2017 film.

While I haven't seen Florida Project I've heard great things about it. I think it got edged out by films with bigger names onscreen and behind the camera (Post, Phantom Thread).

I think maybe Name and Lady Bird will split votes, and Shape of Water will benefit. Three Billboards was really good, but brutal.

Oldman and McDormand win Best Actor and Actress by a mile.

I can see Jenkins edging Rockwell for Supporting Actor.

Boy, is Supporting Actress going to be a race between Metcalf (Lady Bird) and Janney (I, Tonya). Only big one I wouldn't dare predict.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Get Out cash in with Peele upsetting Del Toro for Best Director.

I think McDonogh will win Best Screenplay for Three Billboards.

Adapted Screenplay is a tossup. Could Logan be the winner there?

Congratulations to Mary J Blige. I haven't seen the movie, but I read the book several years ago. Very powerful story. I'll check out the movie before awards night.

Get Out was nominated for best picture, 2 black actors nominated for Best Actor, 2 black actresses nominated for Supporting Actress, Jordan Peele nominated for Best Director AND Best Screenplay. Dee Rees becomes the first black woman nominated for Best Screenplay.

Not saying the Oscars haven't been monochrome for 4 generations. But against the backdrop of 2 black-themed, black-directed films winning the big prize in the last 5 years, 2018 indicates the Oscars are trying to make up for lost time.

(now, we could go full Conspiracy Brother and claim multiple black nominees were tapped in the Actor, Supporting Actress and Screenplay categories to split the votes, but that's for another day.)

Not a single nomination for A Ghost Story, it deserved the Best Picture nomination.

It wasn't a perfect movie but it was misunderstood. I thought it bordered on brilliant.

It's an instant classic in my book. I wonder if Hollywood might be distancing itself from Casey Affleck, though, with all the stink about sexual misconduct these days...

Wonderful experience, but I look forward to watch it a second time. Love I Get Overwhelmed song.
