My TV died

So I was watching a DVD the other night and all of a sudden the screen went black. I could still hear what was going on but couldn't see it.i thought it was apart of the film.so 10 minutes went by and I knew something wasn't right.i switch to the regular TV and same thing happened there.Sound but no picture.I got in touch with Samsung online and they told me to unplug it from the back of the tv and the wall then plug it back up after a minute.it still didn't work. They said they could send a repair man to my house but they charge just for inspection.ive hadn't TV for 2 and a half years so my 1 year warranty is out. It's a Samsung HDTV .I've never had a tv go out like this.I did some Google searching and read it can cost $300-500 just to fix the tv.but then after it's fixed it might just go bad again.should I get it fixed or should I just get a new one? I also tried beating on it and a white light flashed on the screen for 2 seconds.the red power light at the bottom of the TV is working like it should though.

Have you tried a different hdmi cable just to make sure that the issue is with the TV rather than just a faulty cable? Might save yourself the hassle, not to mention the money, it would cost to have a repair man come out.

If a new cable doesn't fix it then I'd recommend getting a brand new TV. For the money it would cost to fix it you'd nearly be able to get a brand new 4k TV. And at least it would give you the peace of mind to know that it won't just break again.

I'm gonna get a new one in a few weeks.i had a 42 inch TV.This time I want a 50 inch one.Samsung is the only brand I thought I could trust. What brands do y'all think I should trust next? Also should I maybe try to get a 4ktv or curved TV? Are they worth getting and do they differ dramatically from the standard 1080 Hdtv's?

I would always argue against the curved screens but that's just a personal preference. As for whether to go 4k or not I'd say you're better off doing it. You mentioned before that you play games so that being the case, 4k is definitely the way to go. Even if you don't have a ps4 Pro or Xbox one X at the moment, the PlayStation 5 isn't too far away and that will most likely have 4k as standard. So you'll want a TV to make the most of it. Besides, 4k TV prices are tumbling down at the moment so it wouldn't cost much more and you'll be set for a long time to come.

As for brand, I also have a Samsung which I'm quite happy with but my boyfriend has an LG OLED C7, I think it's called and that looks absolutely great. It might be above your price range but any of the 4k LG oled models I've seen are a cut above the rest so I'd say you can't go wrong with them.

If you have a flat screen TV, then it appears the bulb that lights the LCD or LED display burned out. It can be replaced for about a couple hundred dollars, but you may as well get a brand new TV since they are so cheap now. You can get a decent 40 to 50 inch LED TV for between $300 and $400 these days.

Buy a new one. There's some decent 100 inchers for only $35,000.

I guess I'm lucky--I've had my Toshiba 30 or so inch flatscreen ($200) for seven years...after my 20 year-old tube TV finally gave up the ghost... lol

I made a passing attempt to find my Auntie a Zenith TV, she claims that's the brand she trusts the most. From the looks of it she's going to have to make do with a LG or some other.

Funny, my Dad worked for Zenith for years...until the factories were outsourced to Mexico and Taiwan. razz

i wouldnt spend much on a tv - they all do the same thing and you never know when you'll need the money you could save on getting a pricier one - I would probably get a brand name you have heard of but not fuss on whether it has crazy HD or whatnot - i always think that when we had 4 channels and a box tv, tv was still enjoyable and thats what its all about right?

Cool, I think it's a pro-American thing with my aunt and she just doesn't realize things have changed.

I read it's own by a company in South Korea now which is fine just don't see any listing for the actual name Zenith on tvs unless they are so pricey that even Target or Best Buy ain't even carrying them. I'm not going to worry that much about the brand name, but it would have been nice.
