The Last Jedi Reviews

Well, so far the initial reviews are great overall. As of right now, the movie has a 93% On Rotten Tomatoes. But there a few negative reviews.

So as of right now this is where all of the Star Wars movie reviews rank on RT

1. Empire Strikes back- 94%

2. Tie: New Hope/The Force Awakens/The Last Jedi- 93%

3. Rogue One= 85%

4.Return of The Jedi- 80%

5. Revenge of The Sith- 79%

6 Attack of The Clones- 66%

7. The Phantom Menace- 55%

I'm not a big fan of The Force Awakens awakens myself. I think the pacing and story are all pretty shoddy, but I got my tickets for the Thursday screening and will have my review then.

So now the critic's aggregate consensus on RT is that Empire Strikes Back and The Last Jedi are a tie for #1 on the tomato meter with both having a 94% fresh.

We'll see how the numbers end up later this week when more reviews and the film is out

I'll have to see it again and maybe take some time to let it sink in but as things stand, The Last Jedi is my second favourite Star Wars movie behind Empire Strikes Back.

My sister's fiancé is a manager of a well known cinema chain. Sometimes they have screenings before general release, off the books. I got to see Wonder Woman, The Justice League and Mad Max Fury Road in the same way.

nice.
And that's a common response I've seen in reviews. People seem to need time to let it all sink in.

I'm going to see it again on Saturday. When I seen it last night at midnight there was only myself, my cousin, my sister, her fiancé and one member of staff in the cinema, which is great on one hand but I think movies like Star Wars can be better when viewing them with a big audience.

Yeah, it's great but then situations come up where they don't have a staff screening and I feel hard done by because I have to wait to see it with everyone else. I've been spoiled razz

Avoidng spoilers but browsing revews. Most are very positive, only consistent complaint being that the film drags a bit in the middle. Can. Not. Wait. 3 more days... excited

Tell me about it. My son joined the Army, he's stationed at Ft Knox, Kentucky. He's coming home for Christmas, but can't come home til Friday the 15th. He made me promise not to go to the Thurs night showing, so we could see it together. He's never seen a SW movie without me, the first film he ever saw at the theater was The Phantom Menace, when he was a wee little 5 year old. I agreed and we have tix for the entire family to go at 8pm Friday night..but right now, I'm like NOOOOOO! Have to go Thursday!!!! But I wont...I'l wait for him... biggrin

Hmm. Not sure what to make of it.

Its not as good as I hoped, was full of plot holes and felt a little 'Disneyfied'.

It was a great action movie (if a little long), but it felt the least like a Star Wars film to date.

I can see why Mark Hamill wasn't happy with how look was playing out.

Really not sure where they will go after this one.

How would you score it?
Did you like it better or less than The Force Awakens? Where would you place it on your top Star Wars list?

Much as I disliked that the Force Awakens borrowed too much from A New Hope, I do think its a great movie and better than The Last Jedi.

I just saw them back to back, and the Force Awakens felt much more like a Star Wars movie; from directing style, transitions, aliens and balance of humour.

I can't go into details without spoilers, but I felt it cast aside the saga heritage too much. It almost dispenses with the past in one swoop.

Going forward, it feels like they could go in any direction.

I have just seen it today with some friends and I have to say I really enjoyed it. IMO its better than prequels, The Force Awakens and Rogue One. However, The Empire Strikes Back is still the best of the series. There is alot of action, everyone gets to shine and I liked the new editions to the cast eg. Rose worship . Plus I really, really want a Porg cause they are sooooo cute nod I give The Last Jedi (2017) a 4.5 out of yoda

exactly my feelings. copy&paste aside, TFA was very satsifying and well crafted, humor, action, excellent job in character development and in introducing new characters while bringing back old ones (including "characters" like the Millenium Falcon or Lukes lightsaber). back then I left the theatre very satsified and was thankful the new trilogy was in good hands, especially with a very promising and climatic cliffhanger

this time it was a bit of a meeehh-feeling after leaving the theatre, but I have to let it sink in.

but I do not have the urge to rewatch it again ASAP as I had two years ago, maybe I can even wait for the blueray release

my main complaint, Han Solo was missing all over the place to give it a "real" Star Wars feeling, but that was to be expected. I also missed more background information (instead of some action overkill) on some essential story details or characters, which kicked of in TFA and were left out there in the open this time... but no spoilers. hopefully all will be answered in Episode IX

BUT it is still a GREAT movie, no doubt, and is certainly running circles around the prequels

Well, I’m lowering my expectations accordingly so as not to be too disappointed.

I never liked The Force Awakens and that partly has to do with not liking most JJ movies in general. To “me” they always come off as inconsequential fluff.

I on the other hand love all the Rian Johnson movies, so I’d be disappointed if he turned out a dud. (In my book)

As of this post, the aggregate critics reviews on Rt give it a 95% positive rating. That makes it the best reviewed movie of all the trilogies so far.
But reviews are still coming in, so that number is bound to change over the course of release.

The Last Jedi gets a solid 9/10 from me.

The commercials clearly state what Rian is doing. It's not going to go the way you think. It's time for the Jedi to end. And you have to kill the past. If you're one of those old farts that can't deal with the new trilogy and hold everything religiously dear and think that Lucas ruined your childhood with The Phantom Menace, well that's who he's talking to specifically. He takes a lightsaber to you and makes you go away peacefully. There is a wonderful wink to these old farts with the Canto Bight sequence where he unleashes all the first trilogy Lucas on as a FU goodbye. LOL

I loved this movie. It's not a serious movie like some think, and it reminds you honestly that the original trilogy, just like the Lucas trilogy were just a fun movie, and not the masterpieces some old farts hold the original trilogy to be. Just watch The Empire Stikes Back again and you'll see that you are wrong in everything you say if you hold them to be anything but fun popcorn entertainment with some cringe-worthy moments.

I love this movie. The women are strong and the men are childish. Definitely miles better than the mediocre The Force Awakens.

Go see it, it's a lot of fun.

I feel sorry for whoever has to follow up The Last Jedi. Rian dropped the mic snd basically finished the saga. I seriously don’t know where they can take it from here and finish this trilogy as it basically ends it all and ties it all together with a nice bow. There really is no point in another “end” to the trilogy in my opinion.
and JJ doesn’t have the chops or a vocabulary to add or say anything cinematically either. I think they should just end it here and let Rian start his new trilogy from scratch as he’s been tasked to do. There really isn’t much more to be said. Especially with Fisher gone.

It was so jarring to watch. So much you've never seen in a Star Wars movie before and it comes off really awkwardly on the first viewing while it avoids hitting any of your expextations. I felt the same way about The Force Awakens after one viewing (Which I loved on repeat viewings) but did not feel that way about Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One. It felt like it was five hours long but my knee pain didn't help with that. I'm not that anxious to see it again and will probably go back but not until after this weekend. I am less worried about Abrams with IX because he really has little to resolve from this film.

I saw it in 3d, it adds absolutely nothing, but the purpose was to have a less crowded showing. A couple in front of me asked how much capacity the 9pm showing was, and they ended up buying tickets for a 2:30 am showing after talking to the ticket seller. I bought my 3d ticket for 8:30pm and there were only 20 people in there. Wasting money on worthless 3d is a great strategy for leg and elbow room.

The last Jedi explored a lot of themes. It had a lot so say. The Force awakens did not explore any themes and had nothing to say.

I think those are the main differences between the two.

One of the main things I keep hearing people say is that there is a lot to go over and have to go back and rewatch it. That's because people are used to the super simplistic Marvel movies or other mass entertainment, because frankly there really isn't "a lot to process". It's all pretty well written and spelled out as simply as possible. I think it's just the moviegoers who seem to have slower processors.
