The Latest Last Jedi Trailer

My initial thoughts is it has fantastic sound design and an amazing soundtrack. Thr visuals are far more artistic in composition. Many of the shots look like they could be framed as posters.

Very mysterious tone.

And it looks like Rian Johnson is hitting it out of the park!

This is more exciting than the wait for The Force Awakens. Gonna have to see this one 20 times to get my fix.

Anyone afraid the trailers are made better than the movies themselves?

Nope. I have full confidence these three movies are going to be stellar. The Force Awakens was really great. It wasn't CGI'd to death like I-III were. People hate those first three, and I can't blame them. I've seen fan edits that make them much more tolerable. Lucas got all butt hurt after saying Jar Jar held the key to everything, yet people hated Jar Jar 100x more than they ever hated Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: TNG. He was scaled back immensely by The Clone Wars. But Lucas was just being indulgent of his own desires and not interested in making three more great Star Wars movies.

The new episodes coming out are much more down to earth and feel organic to the story and in production. It's believable, the way IV-VI were believable. In as much as a Star Wars film is believable. Rogue One was just beautiful all the way around. I'm excited to see the stand-alone Han Solo movie. Disney has tightened its reigns of the franchise and have the clear plan for the whole thing. For that, as a huge Star Wars fan, I'm glad. Lucas left to his own whims is like a new singer going nuts w/ a new Mac and Garageband. Lotta possible output but shittastic quality and a lack of good editing.

Rian Johnson is a unique director with his own sophisticated vision, unlike JJ. So I have a lot of faith in him. Especially with the care in the compositions of every single shot, not to mention that the trailer is pretty intense and the acting looks solid.

From these two trailers, I have high hopes.

^ This. The minute Johnson's involvement was announced I was excited. Seeing what he did with Looper, which was visually stunning and had an emotional core, I was and remain faithful he will knock TLJ out of the park.

I truly think this is going to reset the franchise in big, big ways.

As it was cut, the trailer could have us fooled on a couple of things, but it's clear we'll get to see the fall of Luke's Jedi order.

I wasn't a fan of "Looper", thought it was a bit cliche, and not a fan of the episode of "Breaking Bad" he directed either... and "Brick" seemed a bit bland as well, although he had this quiet understated style to the characters that was hipster cool.

But I do think this trailer looks great!

I feel like "The Force Awakens" was fun the first time I saw it, but then quite empty and boring on any repeat viewing. Whereas with "Star Wars" or "Empire Strikes Back" or even "Raiders of the Lost Ark" I have watched each many, many times in the past, and if I catch them now, they still seem full of flavor and emotion. I think the flaw is that the actual plot of "The Force Awakens" is really flat and derivative. There's hardly any inventive scenarious of setpiece adventure looking back on it. In fact, even the score is forgetable, without any standout "single worthy" new melody coming to mind.

"Rogue One" was kind of the opposite for me. Although it has some ill fittting elements like that mind reading alien torture creature that doesn't seem very "star wars-esque", it was okay the first time, and then actually better the second time. I haven't tried a third to see...

The prequels just didn't function as narratives for me. It was like seeing a bunch of brainstorming produced with millions of dollars... without the pressure that refined the original two movies (I hate Return of the Jedi) through revisions and refinement into self propelled stories.

But, I'm looking forward to checking out this new Star Wars film.

Saw the original in 1977 as a child... and I am obsessed with that one forever. Here's me still drawing Darth Vader as I did in the late 70's...

I also enjoyed Rogue One better the second time around. That big funny robot made the movie. He stole every scene he was in. Without him, the movie would have fallen flat.
Vader at the end was the icing on the cake.

I think it's the best SW movie since the original trilogy.

I checked out "The Force Awakens" again recently and honestly the more I watch it the more I get that "The Hobbit Trilogy" feel of the movie; just quite hollow... Still somewhat good and sometimes great, but detached, not as extreme as "The Hobbit" but still...
Also tried "Rogue One" again and confirmed again it was complete garbage, on par with the Prequel Trilogy in suckiness...
I deeply regret watching the new trailer... But it looks awesome, but so did the trailer for Episode I...

TFA, a solid film, and better than any of the prequels, was a remix of Ep. IV. But I have a really good feeling TLJ is going to chart new territory. I have faith in Rian.

I actually enjoyed the prequels, and SW III was extremely good

There are a lot of reasons Ep IV lost it for me. Even though when I went to the

theater to see it I made myself watch it as an 'alternate' universe movie.
.
I had all the previous novels before the new team scrapped it.

The prequels are not as bad as they're made out to be (though I is clearly the worst SW film ever made). III is definitely a solid movie. TFA (Episode VIII) was still better than any of them. Having all the original characters in TFA connected it to the saga, though it did feel surreal to experience it in this way. This is what happens when they wait over 30 years to make sequels.

I had all the previous novels before the new team scrapped it.

Disney poached from the EU novels. The Kylo Ren storyline is straight from the EU books though they won't say it now.

The first two prequels could have been better.

Jar Jar 'comedic-ness' was irritating

Most people knew that Palpatine was Darth Sideous(we didn't really know that title until the novel/movie) but we knew and it would have been cool if was saw more of the behind the scenes 'dark force gathering' for example his two aides knew who he was. The female Sly was force sensitive.

I wish the Tatoonie pod race was so much shorter. Even though the kid was key, I wish there was more mystery to it(ie not focusing so much on him)

And I was we saw more of other Jedi characters.

.

The 2nd one I liked. We got to see more of Coruscant.

Darth Tyranus had a few Dark Jedi underneath his command, that were pretty cool.
Including Assaj Ventress(general)

We saw Anakin struggling with the dark side, but I wish it was a little more intense.

I wish Padme's reaction to Anakin using the dark side and killing the Tuskens was more troubling in that moment and after.

.

Yes Disney did poach from the EU novels. Kylo Ren is Jacen Skywalker-Solo who was groomed for the Sith.

I don't know what/who else was at the moment.
But the 'copycat' of SW A New Hope was too obvious

The place they all found themselves in didn't make sense to me.
And the daughter of Anakin Skywalker not being trained in the ways of the Force, being as strong as her brother, didn't make sense. Yeah I read the reason given, but it just was a fail.

43 more days of Hell until I can see this movie. I never figured it was Rey putting Luke's ass on the ground when he says "This is not going to go the way you think." I almost thought it was fake when I saw Luke on The Falcon, because I wasn't expecting a full trailer. Turns out it was a new TV spot followed by the official trailer, but what a TV Spot! I almost want to go to Australia just to see it earliest.
