PAPA JOHN GETS THE BOOT FOR HIS COMMENTS RE: NFL PLAYERS KNEELING

http://www.chron.com/news...ipid=hpctp

NEW YORK (AP) — Papa John's founder John Schnatter will step down as CEO next month, about two months after he publicly criticized the NFL leadership over national anthem protests by football players — comments for which the company later apologized.

Earlier this year, Schnatter blamed slowing sales growth at Papa John's — an NFL sponsor and advertiser — on the outcry surrounding players kneeling during the national anthem. Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick had kneeled during the national anthem to protest what he said was police mistreatment of black men, and other players started kneeling as well.

"The controversy is polarizing the customer, polarizing the country," Schnatter said during a conference call about the company's earnings on Nov. 1.

Papa John's apologized two weeks later, after white supremacists praised Schnatter's comments. The Louisville, Kentucky-based company distanced itself from the group, saying that it did not want them to buy their pizza.

He is a world class asshole. Everybody else may have forgotten that he threatened to pull benefits from his employees, lay them off and increase his prices if the Affordable Care Act passed but I didn't forget.

I haven't allowed anyone to bring his shitty pizza in my house since then.

PITTSBURGH -- In an unexpected move, the Steelers on Saturday released franchise sack leader James Harrison to make room for right tackle Marcus Gilbert, who returns from suspension.

Harrison's agent, Bill Parise, said the parting is amicable, but Harrison was frustrated with a lesser role in the defense and wants to continue playing.

"There was no animosity or bad feelings. It's just the business of the NFL," Parise told ESPN's Josina Anderson. "I believe he still wants to play. We'll have to wait and see what happens with waivers."

Harrison was the oldest defensive player in the league before he was cut. He and Minnesota Vikings cornerback Terence Newman, who is four months younger than Harrison, were the only 39-year-old defensive players to play in a game this season, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Harrison thanked Steelers fans on Instagram for their "years of love & support."

He deserves it. Brown, if they go to the Superbowl or not I don't think he will play in the pro bowl. Think Marvin Jones Jr. from the Lions should go.

LMAO. You know it's bad when your team is 12-3 and nobody but Vikings fans care.
Just fuckin with you dawg. I've noticed they have a Super Bowl caliber defense but can the Case Keenum train keep rolling. It remains to be seen.

So if the Vikings do go to the Superbowl, and lose, does that make the Vikings with the most Superbowl loses????

My favorite player on the Browns

Why Duke Johnson dropped to a knee in prayer for Ryan Shazier

‘It’s just looking out for one of our own'

CLEVELAND — Duke Johnson Jr. used his touchdown catch in Sunday’s loss to the Packers to shine a light on injured Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier.

After scoring on a 7-yard shovel pass in the second quarter, the Browns running back dropped to a knee in pray...he No. 50 with his hands for Shazier, who underwent spinal stabilization surgery after suffering a back injury while making a tackle against the Bengals on Dec. 4.

The gesture quickly spread through social media as the NFL community rallies around the Pro Bowler and former Ohio State star. That, of course, isn’t why Johnson wanted to lift up a fellow player.

“I didn’t do it for the praise,” Johnson said Wednesday. “it’s just looking out for one of our own.”

Johnson said Shazier’s injury is something no player ever wants to experience. To see the linebacker go down, he said, was a sobering moment.

“It really doesn't matter who it is, when we look at football we always see what could happen and that's an injury that we never like to think about or we never like to say that can happen to one of us,” he said.

Shazier remains hospitalized and was placed on injured reserve earlier this week.

“Just to see it happen to someone, that was eye-opening for not only myself but a lot of players that play this game. Regardless of what team you play for or what team you root for, you never want to see something like that happen to anyone,” Johnson said.

“My prayers go out to him and his family through these tough times. Like I said, it’s just something you never really look at playing football, you know it can happen but you hardly ever see it, just to see it, it’s eye-opening.”

Batman, calm down. Squeelers, how are they gonna beat the Patriots? How??

Look for the Chargers, Kansas City. They may surprise us, or I hope they do. Tired of the same boring teams winning.

Steelers might not play the Patriots in the playoffs (they have gone to the superbowl 3 times during the Brady/Belichick era). Not scared of KC. Jaguars and even the Ravens can be scary in the playoffs.

BLASPHEMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

James Harrison signs with New England Patriots

James Harrison is joining his former enemy.

The longtime Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker is signing with the New England Patriots on Tuesday, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported. ESPN first reported the development.

Harrison went unclaimed on waivers after being cut by the Steelers on Saturday.

Garafolo reported earlier Tuesday that the Patriots decided not to put a waiver claim on Harrison in order get a look at the 39-year-old before any potential signing.

The two-time All-Pro played just 38 snaps over five games with Pittsburgh this season. Harrison did not play in the Week 15 matchup versus the Patriots.

The Pats will look to see if Harrison is able to add any kind of spark to what has been a suspect front-seven for New England this season. The Patriots are tied for 12th in the league with 38 sacks, and Trey Flowers leads the club with 6.5 on the season.

The Steelers' franchise sack leader landing in New England for a playoff run would provide another storyline or a potential rematch in the AFC Championship Game.

That's all it is gamesmanship. The Steelers sign their former player Steven Ridley last week because James Conner suffered a season ending injury so now in kind they sign a 39 year old James Harrison to bolster their pash rush. Yeah right.
