Gossling's singing was the worst part of this movie, then the absence of African Americans was also pretty ignorant on the film maker's part. I did enjoy the movie even though I usually hate musicals.
.
The Jazz club was filmed in LA. It is located on the pier of Hermosa Beach. It's been there since the 50s and was known to feature acts like Miles Davis amongst other well-known musicians.
.
It's a great club to watch Jazz as it's in the round. http://www.thelighthousecafe.net/

I could sworn John Legend was in it ... maybe I dreamt it ...

I didn't understand that criticism either.

So I guess the couple on the pier, the guys playing jazz in the Jazz Club, John Legend and his band we're all Jamaican-American then?

ARGH!

I've placed a lifetime ban on any and all Ryan Gosling movies, but I might break down and watch this.

No! Must...remain....strong. Fight.....the.....evil.....desires.....

If you're going to watch a Ryan Gosling movie then you should watch Drive or Blade Runner 2049. Both are much, much better than La La Land.

Drive!!!!! Is awesome!!!!!
