Very good episode and a great ending!

Just waiting for morningsong to watch it. But yes excellent series from start to finish. I wonder if they already knew how they wanted to end the series from day one.

Without divulging spoilers to morningsong, yes, seems like they did.

Ok we all seen it now. Where to start, Uhura punching that lady in the face dancing jig. Smith turning also caught me off guard. Saucer separation excited. Everything worked so well and the show came full circle. One complaint, would love to have Erin Grey back as the admiral. Sad they killed off Dr. McKenna but it makes sense story wise. They wanted to show what happened to her and why Spock left for Vulcan. The ending defiantly wrapped things up and bridge the motion picture to next generation. Kirk giving his approval of having ship counselors on board, to the new uniforms and ships, and having just one symbol to represent starfleet. Wonder how the original cast feels about the show.

The saucer separation & the ending dovetailing into The Motion Picture were my favorite elements. I like the end credits sequence and the episodes score, too (it's the little touches that make me smile).

Which part did you laugh? I know you cried when Doctor McKeena died, maybe choke up a little bit when Kirk took his last walk on the bridge???

Uhura punching that lady, it was too funny especially after I noted a few days ago that Uhura never fights. Actually I didn't cry about Dr. McKeena, I mean I felt sad and was surprised, but I concluded they needed to lose a member of the crew and they couldn't kill off one of the originals, it was sweet and touching the moment with Spock. She was a wonderful addition. But like DJ said it was the little details, the new uniform, Kirk's speech, the enterprise (I bawled like a baby at movie 3 over that ship) and yes that last walk on the bridge, that was excellent. I did a facepalm at the saucer separation, though.

I liked that, thought it was "cool", but... I WAS thinking that separation was a NEW feature on TNG. So, I DID raise my eyebrows a bit. But, it was cool, so... wink

I'm something like six episodes in, but Discovery has already jumped the shark for me. Very disappointed.

I never watched Enterprise, and could take or leave the others. I'd watch them if they were on, and they were OK, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see them.

Cool. Thanks for answering.

Discovery gets alot of hate, but since Deep Space Nine, Voyager & Enterprise did as well, I think it's doing alright.

Okay, the Microsoft HoloLens version of the game from Star Trek: TNG, which was posted to Reddit by user litewo, isn’t exactly like the fictional version, but it is frighteningly, frighteningly close. It was created by Robert Burke, who graduated from MIT with a focus on “the design of a scalable, extensible architecture for the brains of synthetic creatures,” and it utilizes a Pip galvanic biosensor to measure players’ levels of relaxation. It does this by measuring the electrical resistance of the skin, or basically how sweaty one is, to determine stress levels. The lower your levels of stress, the more likely a disk is to go into a wiggly cone.

Burke notes in his cursory walkthrough of the making of the HoloLens version of the game that “Star Trek has a history of envisioning technologies that eventually become real. Often faster and more addictive than anyone expects!”

I love and still watch the original Star Trek (with Shatner and Nimoy), which is called Enterprise over here, and I often ask myself why they don´t simply remake the whole show, every single episode. Because as much as I like the original series and its stories, I think in some episodes it is very obvious that they didn´t exactly have the biggest budget. lol

So, how would YOU as a hardcore fan feel about that idea?

I mean, those old stories are still great and deserve to be remade...with a bigger budget some of them would look fantastic in this day and age.

I also watch Star Trek next generation (with Picard and Riker ) every now and then but it just doesn´t really grab me, and neither do Deep Space Nine or Voyager.

Hell no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just watch Star Trek Continues. Honestly I wish Discovery took place where season 4 of the original series would have started. Also they did some dvd where they updated the graphics.

No, no, NO.

If you want the original series with updated special effects, try the HD remasters they did for blu-ray and hd-dvd. The redone special look nice and merge well with the rest of the series. Personally I prefer the original cuts with original cheesy 1960s special effects. It is what it is and doesn't need an update. wink

Wow, you guys are so vehemently against remaking the old show. I´m very surprised. But thanks for the replies and the info on updated graphics.

I just like the old episodes so much that I thought it´d be great to watch them again with what today´s new technology has to offer because some of the props they used look really , really cheap but I understand why you are both so strict and loyal when it comes to remakes.

You know what? You both put me in the mood to watch at least three or four oldschool Star Trek episodes tonight.

I really love that old show, cheesy props and all. wink

I didn't realize that. I've been wondering why so many planets look so Earth like, but I couldn't remember what they looked like way back when so I thought they must have always looked like that.

I'm glad I have the original DVD Season releases. I prefer the original series in the original form.

Question for those that prefer the HD Remasters...

How come Star Wars fans prefer the original Theatrical Versions over the Special Editions but so many Star Trek fans prefer the Remaster Versions over the original Broadcast Versions?

I'm a fan of BOTH and prefer the original with BOTH.

wink

Star Trek: Discovery composer Jeff Russo has gotten a lot of praise for his score for the series, and many soundtrack aficionados among the Trek fan community have been wondering if we’ll get his Discovery music available for purchase: and that answer is yes.
