Star Trek thread version 2.3

idk, don't ask.

Schnuggums!

Karl Urban, who plays Bones in the new Trek films, is currently on the promotional trail for Thor: Ragnarok, and he’s told Screen Crush that he’s been in the dark too.

“You know as much as I do, my friend”, he told the site. “Listen, we’d all love to make another Star Trek movie. That’s absolutely certain. But if we don’t get that opportunity then I’m really happy to have ended on such a good note. We had such a wonderful time shooting Star Trek Beyond. It was an amazing experience – and we’re all still grieving over the fact that it was the last time that we got to shoot with Anton [Yelchin]. We’re all like a family. It won’t be the same without him”.

Paramount is still keen for more Star Trek films, and the success of Star Trek: Discovery on the smaller screen isn’t likely to have hurt either. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more…

Screen Crushhttp://screencrush.com/is-star-trek-4-happening/

I hadn't planned on the Thor movie but I guess I have to now.

He can make an appearance as Bones on DSC, pre-Kelvin timeline and all.

This guy. The other was the captain of the Shinzou (sp?) in the pilot episode.

Count me beyond disappointed. I'm FUCKING pissed.

Obviously it's not because the word offends me. It does not.

It is because Star Trek is for everyone. All races, all sexes and all AGES. This episode is not and it's completely unnecesssary. They just did it because they could.

They said it twice. That would get it an R rating if it was a theatrical movie. Nothing else in the episode would get an R. When was the last time you saw "This film is rated R for language", not "for language and...", but for language ONLY? Never, that's when. (Ok, very RARELY then).

I don't like the new design of the Klingons. I don't like technology that doesn't match the continuity of previous shows & movies. And, I don't buy that the main character would last a month in Starfleet since she NEVER follows orders. *

But even with all these problems, I've given it a pass. It's fun. It's interesting. It's Star Trek. I'm down!!

Using the f word, twice, for no reason? I still like the show but the producers who made that call should be ashamed of themselves. It's unacceptable. Fuck those guys.

*In every epidode so far, her actions (whether successful, or not) would have her court martialed, kicked off the ship and probably kicked out of Starfleet, by every captain, of every ship in every other show.

Damn it, Jim: A brief history of swearing on Star Trek

Because we are streaming, so we could do whatever we want. It doesn’t all look good on Star Trek. Violence is violence. You know, okay, maybe we can show a Klingon bat’leth going into somebody, couldn’t do that on network. Sex on Star Trek, to a degree. Nudity on Star Trek, not really, it just doesn’t feel right. Language, there are a couple moments where we got a little creative with language, but again it was in the context of like three scientists having a victory and celebrating in a way that’s a little colorful. Which I loved, because it was sort of like nerds unite, they kicked ass, and dropped a few F-bombs, fine.

Although that no-nudity clause certainly puts a damper on the “sexy, vital Klingons,” swearing isn’t really new to Star Trek (and certainly not to “Swear Trek”). Oh sure, we’ve never heard an f-bomb before, let alone two, on any of the previous series, but the films boldly inched us closer to that all-purpose obscenity. Hell, The Original Series regularly featured Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy (DeForest Kelley) reminding Captain Jim Kirk (William Shatner) of his “damn” title. So here’s a quick trip down profanity lane in the Trek universe.

Yeah disappointed they used the F word. I think Data said swore in one of the movies. Kirk said double dumb ass in Star Trek 4

Damns and hells do not take Trek out of the family entertainment territory, and the few shits in the PG-13 movies have been the "worst" we've heard. "Fuck" (which again, does NOT offend me) should NEVER be said on Star Trek as that definitely is too far for most parents of younger children. Star Trek should always remain entertainment for all ages that families can share.

"Double dumb-ass on you" is tame enough that Star Trek IV got a PG rating. This weeks episode would pass PG-13 and land on R.

i like the new show but i'm kinda bored with the klingons now. i'd like to see some
more of the universe and the different species/races. the klingon story could be an
overarching theme in the first season but come on, this is a bit boring now. altho,
i guess focusing on a single theme for the first few eps is going to alow the viewers
to get used to the cast without too many distractions.

also, i'd rather have seen more dude of dude action, instead of the f bomb smile but
we'll probably get some of that in later eps cool

it reminds me a bit of the storyline with that woman on the next generation who's bad at
following orders and picard takes a liking to her anyway. she's the one who insists that she
gets to wear her earring/moonwrap kinda jewelry on the bridge. i can't remember her name
right now. but she had quite a mouth on her and wasn't taking orders/shit from no one lol

I liked her on the show. Though I feel Michelle Forbes did not want to get stuck in the Star Trek Universe after producers offered her to reprise her role on DS9 and Voyager

Since this is a prequel I don't want to see any new races. They should focus on the Tellarites, Andorians, The Orions, Romulans, Tholians, the Gorn for starters. They could also focus on new races introduced in Enterprise such as Denobulans and the Suliban. Especially the Suliban and show how their race declined. Also focus on the races that made up the Xindi. Maybe introduce the Bolians and the Deltans

dang kpowers, you're knowledge is impressive cool and you're right, in the time line,
they should stick to the species and races we know of. ps: great collection of pics cool

i just keep forgetting that this is a prequel since the tech looks so advanced. it will be
a little while before i'm automatically placing it as the first one in the timeline, in my
own head.

I really liked the concept of the Xindi, 5 (1 extinct) separate "intellectual" species evolving and co-existing on one planet. One annoying thing about all scifi, everybody on every planet either looks the same, share the same culture or there are only 2 separate cultures which are fighting each other.
