For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky.

Image result for star trek: the original series season 3 episode 8

The Enterprise must deflect an asteroid on a collision course with an inhabited planet...but discover the asteroid is a spaceship with a population unaware of the outside world.

That’s pretty much the exact plot of The Orville episode 4.

And episode 2 of The Orville was pretty much the same plot of "The eye of the beholder" on the animated series

they are making it obvious they are the child of star trek.

I really liked the concept of the Xindi, 5 (1 extinct) separate "intellectual" species evolving and co-existing on one planet. One annoying thing about all scifi, everybody on every planet either looks the same, share the same culture or there are only 2 separate cultures which are fighting each other.

Well it's hard to do just one episode to tackle that subject. Enterprise had a whole season explaining the races that made up the Xindi.

I know. Only so much you can do in 20 to 45 minutes.

And no Uhura as well

Image result for star trek uhura

Naw she wasn't but there are many episodes we don't see her, partially why she wanted to quit in the first place.

True. But just making a point of how different the 2nd pilot was. Honestly I think a lot of season 1 was aired out of order. There are a like 1 or 2 episodes in which Uhura was wearing a yellow uniform. I have a feeling those were the first episodes to feature Uhura.

I did notice the uniform but I didn't know that the episodes were out of order, but I understands shows do that a lot.

Uhura wore the yellow uniform in the episode

I'm just now learning what the color of uniforms mean but haven't got it down. I do know their ranks in TOS is based on the bars on their sleeves. I'm assuming yellow is in line to command or academy graduates. Blue is science specialties. Red is support/tactical positions. I'm making a guess here.

Wonder what the decision was to change hers, I guess as a female in those times captain's chair were off the table?

Star Trek's
take on Prince's death (with notable contributions from Spock)

Bones: He's dead Jim!

Kirk: Cause of death?

Bones: Damn it Jim! I'm a doctor... not a time-travelling Medical Examiner who can read people's minds?!

Spock: Affirmative Captain. If there was a crew member with such skills we would not be having this conversation.

Kirk: Shut up Spock! I mean err... did i ask for your opinion?

Spock: Negative Captain.

cool

Maybe since she was on the bridge they felt maybe to many cast members were wearing yellow (Kirk and Sulu) and there was only one main cast member wearing red (Scotty........not counting Rand because she was still consider a secondary character). And before Chekov joined Star Trek in season 2 the person sitting next to Sulu also wore yellow, so yeah to much yellow on the bridge maybe.

I'mma have to watch this episode this weekend, I don't remember it.

I need to go back through the STC episodes that line up with TOS episodes and pick up on the similarities, I'm just starting to really notice their attention to detail.

I swear I think of Prince every time I see an episode showing how much Kirk loves the Enterprise, nothing, I mean nothing comes between him and his ship.

I'm kind of sad, isn't this the last one? It must be savored.

They can't sell this series can they? It has to only remain on YT. No commentaries, extras or stuff like that? They did such a wonderful job, I'd pluck down the bucks because I'd watch this over and over again.

They do on their channel on youtube. They have behind the scenes, blooper reels and so on. Yes I agree with you this series deserves to air on the syfy channel. I would buy this on DVD.

YouTube ain't gonna last forever. It would be nice to legitimately have stuff you enjoyed in at least a semi-permanent situation.

I would buy Continues on DVD. They should let them do a limited release with profit going to charity or something.

I like it. Don't get me wrong, I can nitpick the hell out of it, what with all the unnecessary and unwanted changes to the Klingons, tech that ignores continuity such as hologram communications, a tone and story telling technique that is very un-Roddenberry... I could go on.

That said, I'm digging it. I remember lots of people hating on Deep Space Nine, Voyager & Enterprise and I like those, too. It's Star Trek. I'm down. Still loving The Orville, too. Both shows are great!
