You guys are spot on, IMO. Dany will not like being second in line - but Jon/Aegon will not like being first. He leans more Stark than Targaryan - more like Ned who was a warrior but had no taste for politics. Jon will either die defendng mankind, or return to the North. I do not think he and Dany will end up together - another tragic love story in the making.

I agree - Bran is the key.

Jon or Dany will either die defending against the walkers. But, after the walkers are defeated, will there be enough of an army left to take on Cersie? Cersie's new husband will kill her and take the throne.

Unless, the iron bank backs the war against the dead. Which seems like the best interest for them. Then and only then if John and Dany survive the battle of the Dead, he will let Dany on the throne (he doesn't want it), he will rule aside her. Sansa will rule Winterfell with Arya by her side. The North would be okay with John being with a Southern ruler.

kewl, I think you may be onto something with Cersei. After Jaime leaves, Euron will press Cersei to marry sooner than she wanted. If she does that, Euron can turn on her, take the crown, move the base to the Iron Isles, and wait out the Great War.

Jon is inclined not to accept what he's told. It will likely be Howland Reed who comes out of hiding and convinces EVERYONE (including Dany). My sense is Jon will continue to defer to Dany, he can't afford not to, even if he weren't in love with her.

Neither the Iron Bank nor the Citadel are on board yet but they could be once word gets out about the wight at the Big Meeting.

But I'm increasingly inclined to believe the Walkers win, and render the myths of the Prince that was Promised and the Lord of Light meaningless. If it ended that way, the show could serve as an allegory for the environment AND a commentary on messianic religions.

But that's for another day.

Walkers wont win the finale battle, they may win Winterfell. How does one do a sequel if the Walkers win??? Like Sansa's or John's kids story etc? From a financial stand point, it wouldn't make sense.

Most of the planned projects are for prequels, so it wouldn't necessarily interfere with future installments.

As of today, don't completely discount there being a Hamlet-style ending with everybody falling. That's the way GRRM works.

Side note (okay, wild speculationO) -- the Children Created the Night King by plunging a blade of dragonglass into his chest. I think he still carries it. That may protect him from a Valyrian steel attack, and might be the key to killing him.

I expect a good half of the cast to die. That's why I think it's going to be John or Dany dying. Since Dany is the only main character in a main story line to not die in the series it could be her instead of John. Dany dying carrying John's child would be right up GOT way of messing with us. All Starks could end up dead unless Bran gives them some advantage on how to kill the Dead King we don't know about. I would also think the King would want Bran dead because he is the only real threat.

Keeping up the way the show works, I would think perhaps neither Dany or John get the iron throne. Perhaps there will be no iron throne-and separate countries are formed?

Chances are it plays out like Shakespeare, all the main characters are gone, and it's left to a peripheral character to pick up the mantle.

For example: The very last image you see in the opening credits is the stag, which lingers on screen for about 2-3 seconds. That's the Baratheon sigil. The only Baratheon left is Gendry. He could wind up picking up the pieces of a broken Westeros, which barely survives the Great War.

Of course, that heroic act of rebellion also puts him in the oncoming path of the Night King and his undead army, who are currently marching towards Winterfell with a hundred thousand wights and an ice dragon — a fact that isn't lost on star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

"The fear is that I would be turned into one of those undead. That would suck," he admitted in a recent interview with Esquire, when discussing Jaime's decision to leave the relative safety (no pun intended) of King's Landing.

"You know some of the main characters are going to get turned. There are going to be some blue-eyed main characters running around," he pointed out. "And, god, I hope it's not me. That's three hours of make-up in the morning. I know that if David Benioff and Dan Weiss read this, they'll go, 'Oh, yes we will.'"

I remember Jaime looking at the records of the Kingsguard in the early seasons and he saw blank pages -- with much left to be written -- in his entry. He's going to make a huge impact for good or ill before it's done.

And yes, it's going to be heartbreaking to see significant players emerge as wights.

This scenario reminds me of the Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode, "The Wish" where major characters were vampires in an alternate reality and then later killed ironically by other characters who in the real Buffy universe were most dear to them. I can totally see that playing out in a similar way here.

I could see Sansa fulfilling the Lady Stoneheart storyline in the books by becoming a (sentient) walker.
