I feel the same way about his performance as Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), it's sheer perfection that can't be topped

^ i hear you. for a while in the 1980s i just thought he was a ghost story writer. and oddly, the book "It" sort of turned me off his work at the time. but then i read "Green Mile". it has touches of supernatural and horror, but overall it is an amazing novel by an amazing writer. i have the feeling that King will be remembered for his 'horror' stories, but over time history will see the depth of his body of work. i love love LOVE that he gives us strong female protagonists and features feminist themes. love his work. I'm really looking forward to the Dark Tower. I voraciouly read the first three novels in the '90s and couldn't wait for a sequel to The Wastelands... That was in 1997. Little did I know I would have to wait until 2012...

Yeah, Green Mile is great too. I don't even consider him a horror writer at this point tbh. There's a fair bit of literary snobbery directed at him, I think you're right, history will see his work in all its depth. What's your favourite King books?

i can't say i have one 'favorite'. recently, i read Mr. Mercedes. excellent story, engaging and well-written. also, i'm reading Bazaar of Dreams which features short stories/novellas sufficiently creepy enough to read slowly, just a little bit at a time Mr. King can still scare me into checking locked doors at night

I do not agree. I would say and I have read others that have said the same, that Tim's performance was meant to be over the top! A little too silly because of limits to the tech. (yes I have read the book and seen the made for TV show). To me at times he was a little too silly... but it worked for a TV show... but there is so much more they can do today and with an R rating and a 4 to 5 hour (between 2 movies) running time. But there was nothing special about Tim's performance.

Well it remains to be seen if the new guy does it better. I don't think he will. It will be interesting to look back in 15, 20 years from now when people talk about It, will they still be talking about Tim Curry or will this new guy be seen as the definitive version.

I think it will be different. But as I am cheap and lazy I doubt I will go see it in theaters...

King is my fave fiction writer. My Dad turned me on to him when I was a kid. An absolute genius when it comes to story ideas and his writing is very underappreciated, mostly because some critics get sniffy about a 'horror' writer.

Started with his short stories so I think I'll always have an affinity for them ... Battleground and The Man Who Loved Flowers are particularly brilliant and only a few pages long.

Can't wait for the IT film, but I agree with the earlier poster ... Tim Curry will take some beating.

I watched the first movie version of "It" yesterday to fresh up my memory. The ending could be a little better, imo

the end left out what happened in the city and left out how the kids got out...but I think the movie may have how they got out (the end of the adults part will be in PT 2)
