Steelers trade for Phillips
The Steelers traded for Washington Redskins cornerback Deshaun Phillips. The Steelers completed what was a busy day of transactions when they traded for Washington Redskins cornerback Dashaun Phillips in exchange for center Lucas Crowley. Phillips played in five games for the Redskins in 2016, starting two, in the nickel role. He had seven tackles and a fumble recovery. He has played in 11 games, with 14 tackles, nine of them solo stops, in two seasons. Phillips originally was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2014. He was waived by the Cowboys before the start of the season, and later signed to the New York Jets practice squad in October, 2014. He was signed to the Redskins practice squad in 2015, and then placed on the active roster later in the season. Phillips played college ball at Tarleton State, a Division II school in Texas. He finished his career with 175 career tackles, 12 interceptions and three forced fumbles. Earlier in the day the Steelers signed cornerback Antonio Crawford, and released running back Brandon Brown-Dukes. The Steelers also signed rookie wide receiver Justin Thomas. In a corresponding move the Steelers waived/injured third-year cornerback Greg Ducre.

I bet you that any WR's that get cut by the Steelers will be picked up by Bruce Arians and the Cardinals

The Steelers cornerback position is a sad state of affairs. Phillips is nothing more than a camp body. He was terrible as a slot corner last year. Ross Cockrell sucks so bad he was benched in practice for a career journeyman Cody Sensenbaugh. The sad thing is the Steelers best corner may not even make the squad due to injury Senquez Golson. His former college teammate Mike Hilton who was undrafted has risen ahead of Golson on the depth chart. Artie Burns looks the part as a starter on one side but it's still too early to tell how good he will be. Don't laugh at my funk

I know it's only pre-season, but I want to see more from the offense. Giants have the same issues as last year.....shaky o-line/ground game.
I'm so ticked off at Jerry Reese for not upgrading the O-line. His stubborness regarding Flowers will come back to haunt the team.

I stopped going to preseason games years ago and would never pay for another. Hopefully some of the young guys for the Steelers will make an impression. I'll get to see Landry Jones and Dobbs. I think DeShone Kizer has what it takes to start. People were predicting he would go to the Steelers. Looked like the Browns were picking up players in the draft that other analyst were saying the Steelers would pick.

I'm patient and willing to give Dobbs a chance but I just don't see it with him as a starter on this level. I wasn't overly impressed with him at Tennessee. Don't laugh at my funk

Fire his ass already Bengals' Vontaze Burfict facing 5-game suspensionOn Sunday, Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict returned an interception 62 yards for a touchdown before hopping into the stands and waving his arms in the air. It could be a fond memory that will have to last Bengals fans for a few weeks. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday night that Burfict is looking at a five-game suspension for a hit he laid on Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman back on Aug. 19. Video of the play in question appears to show Burfict, with 7:58 remaining in the first quarter, unloading on an unsuspecting Sherman after Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith releases a pass headed for tight end Travis Kelce way downfield. Sherman crept out of the backfield as an eligible receiver, but was not close to being Smith's intended target. ESPN first reported the development. Rapoport reports that Burfict intends to appeal the ruling. The team released this statement Sunday night: "The Bengals are aware of the NFL's letter to Vontaze regarding a play in last weekend's game. The film shows that the hit was legal, that Vontaze engaged his opponent from the front, and that contact was shoulder-to-chest. The Club will support Vontaze in the appeal process." With the Bengals already missing cornerback Adam Jones due to a one-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, this is a blow the defense simply cannot sustain. Burfict lost the first three games of the 2016 season after the league penalized him for multiple hard hits, culminating in the highly-publicized collision with Antonio Brown in the playoffs last year. Burfict has become synonymous with these monster shots, which have cost him hundreds of thousands in fines over the years. As Rapoport noted, Burfict is considered a repeat offender, which will not help plays like the one from last Saturday fly under the radar. It will also not help the Bengals, who watched longtime defensive stalwart Rey Maualuga sign with the Miami Dolphins last week. Cincinnati drafted a pair of linebackers -- Carl Lawson in the fourth round and Jordan Evans in the sixth -- who could be in line for a bigger role over the coming months. Lawson had a sack in Sunday's loss to the Redskins.

Niners trade Vance McDonald to Steelers for draft pickThe Steelers acquired tight end Vance McDonald and a 2018 fifth-round draft pick from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2018 fourth-rounder, both teams announced Tuesday. Speaking with reporters, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said the move to acquire McDonald was, in part, motivated by the team's current crop of tight ends not being "not consistently varsity enough." "We're going to put him in uniform like the rest of them and continue to allow them to sort themselves out," Tomlin said about the team's tight ends. "It's reasonable to expect the guys that are here to respond positively in the right way to his presence and elevate their play." In four years with the 49ers, McDonald has started 30 games, snagging 64 receptions for 866 yards and seven touchdowns. The former second-round pick signed a five-year $35 million contract extension with San Francisco in December. The new regime has attempted to trade the 27-year-old this offseason. They finally found a taker. The 49ers will move forward with rookie George Kittle -- who has impressed coaches this offseason -- Logan Paulson, Garrett Celek, and Blake Bell at tight end. An already potent Pittsburgh offense just upgraded a position of need ahead of the season opener, moving down a single round in the draft to add a potential playmaking weapon to their tight-end room. McDonald should push Jesse James for playing time as soon as he gets up to speed.

Steelers sign CB Joe Haden to three-year contractThe Pittsburgh Steelers didn't waste any time pulling Joe Haden off the free-agent market. Hours after he was released by the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback signed a three-year, $27 million deal with the Steelers, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Haden is guaranteed to make $7 million in the first year of his new contract -- which ironically was the same amount Cleveland was seeking to pay him before cutting him, Rapoport reported. The Steelers later made the deal official. ESPN first reported the development. The Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts were among the teams that were interested in potentially signing Haden before the Steelers ended his brief free-agency foray, Rapoport reported. Haden, 28, reached the Pro Bowl in 2013 and 2014. The 2010 first-round pick signed a six-year, $74.678 million deal in 2014 but has struggled to find consistency in the years since. Haden has played in just 18 games since 2014, with three interceptions and 13 pass breakups in those two years. Although Haden's on-field presence has been hampered by injury, he makes an impact when he stays healthy. He's one of only two NFL players with more than 100 pass breakups since 2010 and, in the 13 games he played in, he has recorded a 78.6 passing rating against. While it was moderately surprising the Browns couldn't find a trade partner for him, it's not surprising their AFC North rivals went after him so aggressively. The Steelers could use more cornerback depth, and Haden's Pro Bowl past coupled with his 2016 bounceback season makes him a sensible signing. Pittsburgh had the league's 16th-ranked pass defense last season (242.6 yards per game) and ranked No. 24 in completion percentage allowed (64.6). As for Haden's new teammates, it seems running back Le'Veon Bell is onboard with the Steelers' newest roster addition. And Haden won't have to wait long to play the Browns -- his first game with the Steelers will be in Cleveland on Sept. 10.

Game was pretty good. Lots of Steelers fans of course already planted in the Carolinas. It was raining pretty much throughout the day and we thought it was gonna ruin the day but it stopped raining at 6 and it was good to go. Was a little late due to traffic. We walked in on Landry throwing that damn wounded duck but I heard his arm was hit on the play. The biggest bright spot was Terrell Watson of course. I was surprised to see James Harrison and Hargrave getting snaps in the 3rd quarter. Some fans left early but the ones who stayed were treated to a good finale. Panthers fans and Steelers fans were cheering hard the final 7 minutes as though it was a regular season game. Steelers fans went wild on the final drive with Dobbs scoring the game winning td with 2 seconds left. Big Ben played 3 series against the Colts and that was it. Cam Newton played one series all pre season for the Panthers. Update: Knile Davis has been released by the Steelers today Don't laugh at my funk
