Ok I do believe this will be Ben's last season in the NFL. The whole Bell contract, well I think the Steelers are gonna wait see how Bell plays this season. I think if he can play a full season and put up the numbers he'll get paid what he is looking for.

Low hit by Vontaze Burfict leads to heated fight at Bengals training camp

After a 2016 season where he was suspended three games and fined nearly $900,000 for illegal hits, it looks like Vontaze Burfict is starting 2017 right where he left off.

The Bengals linebacker started a small brawl at training camp on Tuesday after he took down running back Giovani Bernard with a low hit. In the video of the play, you can see Burfict hit Bernard just below the waist and then finish the tackle by taking Bernard down by the knees.

According to Cox Media's Jay Morrison, the hit on Bernard came during a non-tackling drill.

Following the play, a sideline clearing brawl erupted in Cincinnati.

The video of the tackle has some strong language, but you can check it out by clicking here if you're so inclined.

Hitting a teammate at the knees during a non-tackling drill is never a good idea, and it's definitely not a good idea when that teammate is coming off ACL surgery, like Bernard. The Bengals running back missed the final six games of the 2016 season after tearing the ACL in his left knee during a Week 10 loss to the Bills last year.

After eight months of rehab, Bernard didn't participate in his first practice with the Bengals until the team reported for training camp last week.

Apparently, tempers were flaring all day in Bengals practice. Besides the scuffle started by Burfict, there was also another kefuffle, with this one involving tight end Tyler Eifert and safety Shawn Williams.

From USA Today:

EAST RUTHERFORD — Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard was carted off the field after suffering an ankle injury during Wednesday's practice.

The initial diagnosis was a low ankle sprain, according to a team source.

"A basketball-type ankle [injury]," head coach Ben McAdoo said. "But we’ll see how he responds to treatment and go from there."

The Giants have to hope Shepard's ankle injury is a minor one.

The second-year receiver is considered one of Eli Manning's top targets, alongside Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall. Shepard is expected to mostly line up in the slot.

https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/08/03/ryan-tannehill-leg-injury-dolphins-practice-update

Thursday August 3rd, 2017

The Dolphins are worried quarterback Ryan Tannehill may need season-ending knee surgery, Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington of ESPN report.

Tannehill left practice with a non-contact left leg injury Thursday that according to ESPN had the team "concerned" initially. NFL.com reported there was no structural damage in the knee.

Tannehill was mid-scramble when he fell and landed uncomfortably, remaining on the ground while examined by training staff. Last year, Tannehill sprained his ACL and MCL in the same left knee. He wears a brace on that leg but did not need surgery.

Ward back with the Steelers

Coach' Ward adjusting to new role

Hines Ward is back at Steelers training camp in a new role.

LATROBE. Pa. – Hines Ward broke into the smile everyone is so accustomed to, laughing as he talked about hearing one of the current Steelers players refer to him as, ‘Coach Ward’ for the first time.

“When they first called me Coach Ward, I had to get used that,” laughed Ward. “I was thinking I am not that old, that far removed. I told my wife the first day I heard Coach Ward I got a big chuckle. I didn’t respond to it at first. I was like are you talking to me, oh, I am the coach. Having the opportunity to come back and give to my organization and help these kids and try to get another Super Bowl is a blessing.”

Ward is working with the Steelers coaching staff during training camp, sharing his knowledge with the young players, while at the same time learning what the coaching profession is all about as it’s something he has been interested in for a long time. He currently works for CNN as a sports contributor and is a regular on HLN’s Morning Express with Robin Meade. And while he loves that, he has a passion for football.

“It’s all different for me,” said Ward. “As players you don’t know what goes into coaching, the game plan, scripting the plays. There is a method to the madness. They want to see progress each and every day and they want to evaluate the players and utilize how to pick the best 53 guys to build a team to make a Super Bowl run. Being behind the scenes is fun, exciting.

“I am teaching guys things I have done my whole life, I love football. I have always loved football. Why not give these guys all of the knowledge of the game that I have. I did that when I was here with younger guys. Why not come back and see what this was like. I didn’t know what went on behind the scenes. This gives me good experience to learn things, from meetings to how to run a practice and everything else.”

Ward is mainly working with the team’s younger players, including second-round pick JuJu Smith-Schuster, who he said reminds him of, well, him.

“JuJu, words can’t describe,” said Ward. “I see a lot of myself in him. He is a kid that wants to get better every day. The kid is willing to learn. He wants to get better each and every day. He loves to block, loves to get his face dirty, and has great hands. He might not have top end speed, but you don’t need that. If you are a great route runner, can catch the ball and you know the game upstairs.

“I see him having a long and productive career. He is like a big sponge taking it all in. Working with him is exciting for me.”

Ward has been there and done that, so the advice he gives can do nothing but benefit Smith-Schuster and others.

“I just talk about getting better each day,” said Ward. “There is a purpose to training camp. The biggest difference from college to pro is the conditioning, the speed of the game. You have to be in football shape. You can get fatigued fast. Watching Antonio Brown, I thought I worked hard, he puts in two hours after practice. That is what I am working with JuJu on, preparing like that. If you can be in shape for four quarters, catch the ball, run routes, good things will happen.”

Ward, who was a semifinalist for the Hall of Fame Class of 2017, hasn’t just been welcomed back with open arms by the team, but by the fans as well.

“I did it the right way I guess,” said Ward. “The fans have shown me nothing but love. This is something I was intrigued about for so many years. Getting the opportunity to do it and feel the love from the fans. The organization and city has given me so much, what better way than to give my knowledge to the young players. Working with Coach (Richard) Mann, he has so much experience, he has been so helpful in the process.”

I do remember the Steelers losing at home to Chicago during LeVeon Bell's rookie year when he

missed the first 3 games due to injury. That's the season the Steelers started out 0-4. The Steelers loss primarily because the defense had gotten old and soft. The Steelers pretty much have completely turned the whole defensive roster over since that season. I don't remember the Denver game.

Well I think this will be Ben's last year, if he does not come back next year I hope we draft another QB (get rid of Jones)

It's official: Dobbs to start Friday vs. Giants

Rookie Joshua Dobbs will be the starting quarterback in the preseason opener.

LATROBE, Pa. – When the Steelers used their fourth-round pick of the 2017 NFL Draft on quarterback Joshua Dobbs, there was no expectation of him having to play early. After all, Ben Roethlisberger was coming off a 2016 season in which he passed for 3,819 yards and 29 touchdowns in 14 regular season starts, and the Steelers recently had signed veteran backup Landry Jones to a two-year contract a month earlier.

But as often happens in professional sports, circumstances intervened, and so it will be that Dobbs will start the Steelers’ preseason opener on Friday against the New York Football Giants at MetLife Stadium.

The starting nod goes to Dobbs, because Coach Mike Tomlin said today that both Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown will not play against the Giants. And with Jones still nursing an abdominal injury that has prevented him from practicing for several days, the “next man up” is Dobbs.

“Our approach is going to be simple. Those who are healthy will play. Aside from Ben and Antonio, those who are healthy will play,” said Tomlin. “The guys who have missed time for a variety of reasons, there’s no need to declare them out at this juncture. We’re going to give everybody an opportunity to gain a certain level of health and then make judgments as to the availability of some of those guys.”

Even though Tomlin said that players unable to participate in today’s practice wouldn’t necessarily be ruled out of the game against the Giants, the decision has been made on a starting quarterback.

“Josh Dobbs is getting an opportunity to start at quarterback for us,” said Tomlin. “One man’s misfortune is another man’s opportunity. Landry has been dealing with injuries, which gives Josh an opportunity to start the game. He’s excited about it, and I know I’m excited about watching him play the quarterback position with that group and lead us in that way.”

Dobbs started 35 games at Tennessee, and he was 23-12 in those starts, and he left there ranked among the school’s all-time leading passers in several statistical categories, as well as holding onto a degree in aerospace engineering.

“He’s a bright-eyed willing worker,” said Tomlin about Dobbs. “He appears to learn from mistakes, and I thinks that’s good. He also appears to be able to learn from the mistakes of others, and that’s doubly good. Like a lot of things, we won’t know until we get into a stadium. At that position, you’re defined by how you perform under certain circumstances, and it’ll be good to get him in that stadium on Friday night and watch him in terms of putting his skills on display.

“This is just the first time out. I’m interested in his game day demeanor, his ability to communicate through circumstances, not only with his fellow players but with his coaches as well.”

Yeah that year it looked like players on the defense were just showing up to work to collect their pay checks.

Memo to Bell. It's not the LeVeon Bell Steelers. It's the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I'm all for him getting that money but the Steelers went above what they've historically

done in giving Bell a good deal. He was offered 4 million more than what the Falcons have

just given DeVonta Freeman. He doesn't have to be in camp although all his teammates have

urged him to do so. This dude is talking about getting top RB dollar and number 2 WR money. Dude won't be getting as many touches catching the ball with all the weapons the Steelers have now on offense now and once Roger Dickhead Goodell stop fucking with Martavius Bryant. I just hope for his sake he's not attempting any fuckery once the season starts or the Steelers will move on without him as GM Kevin Colbert has stated no matter the cost.
